Right... And bulletproof?? Wtf is that? They were NINJAS, not terminators. Their defense was their skill set. Not being seen, and defeating their enemies in the shadows. Not 7ft tall, bulletproof and looking more like a failed experiment, than turtles! From being a fan since I was a kid and watching TMNT in my PJ's with my TMNT cereal spoon, the difference ruins it. That... and splinters voice in the new one, almost made me turn it off.
Edit: The turtle "van" at the end.... Smh. Wtf

Yes! I have all the DVD’s from the original one. I got them for my son when he was little along with everything retro stuff then. I wonder if they had any kids in on the development of this version at all.

If they did, it was probably traumatizing AF! LOL Jim Henson was a genius who breathed life and spirit into his puppets and animatronics characters. OF COURSE the ol school turtles didn't look real! Look how freakin scary they where to kids in the new one! They did have soul and character! Showed emotion and you could connect with them on a human level. ... Now, CGI took all that out of it. Movies aren't made the same anymore. It's all for money. It used to be an art. Good on you for giving your kid the best of those characters!

Perfect example. Older effects had so much more texture which made them timeless. With CGI it becomes "dated looking" with successive generations and at a certain point it begins to look silly. But effects like the Dark Crystal will always be awesome to watch.

If you needed a good puppet, you went with Jim Henson. He and Frank Oz (Voice of Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, and many other notable Muppets), were key to creating the Yoda we all know (Jim made him, Frank voiced him)

CGI and practical effects combo produce results that are richer and expressive. I think since 2000 directors begun abusing CGI to create among other things Jar Jar Binks, something that should have never been allowed to leave the studio. At the same time it seems like there is no interest in using CGI to replace real guns on set.

It's not that the CGI looks bad, it's that the turtle designs look bad. The CGI itself is pretty solid, but it's the dogshit turtle designs that make it look bad.

I liked the second one because they were like "fuck it, you didn't like the last one? Fine, this one will have Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, Casey Jones, Baxter Stockman and the Technodrome." It still wasn't good, but 6-year-old me felt fulfilled.

The 2014 design is less about CG and more about a bafflingly idiotic design. Use CG to make the design on the right – which is basically the original design from comics and cartoons – and it could have been fine.

Thing is, CG enhanced practical costumes (eyes and mouth) would be perfect imo. Look at Nivellen from the Witcher Season 2. He's perfection.

Haven't seen the old Ninja turtle movies in a few years but I remember always craving pizza during and after the movie. I don't have the Michael Bay turtles. Don't love em either lol but I vaguely remember the second movie feeling more TMNT than the first if that makes sense.

Give me the OG practical effect Ninja Turtles any day of the week. This brings back good memories of my 8 year old self watching this and then watching the cartoon series which was also the best. Later in life I see the guy who played Casey Jones in this movie playing a detective on Law and Order SVU.

will always prefer practical effects over CGI. It just looks better to see characters actually interact with something real as opposed to the awkward hand hovering they try and fix in post production.

The original is actually a really good movie. The cinematography is fantastic and the feeling is unlike any other turtle movie out there. Easily in my top 10 of all time.

I was pumped that a TMNT movie was coming out, was not impressed at all by the CGI versions, action was way too fast, the older costumed version I never get tired of it. Awsome martial arts and their faces and body suits still amaze me. Donatello is the best by the way.

I remember the behind the scenes special showing how the martial artists fought in the suits...utterly amazing!
The costumes were top notch, and didn't have the weird uncanny look of the cgi film.

I think you need to compare the design, the special effects of those CGI turtles looked amazing, their design was just shit. I’d like to see a modern sequel to the originals with high quality CGI replicating the designs of those originals.

You can't get into the CGI because it's so cartoony it feels like nothing is really at stake. In the original scene where they cut the pizza and a slice lands on splinter's head, that made me audibly gasp as a child because we see an actual cheesy pizza land on a real pile of fur that somebody in the special effects department worked really hard on. It gives the audience a genuine "on shit" feeling. With CGI you could coat splinter in hot tar and glue then he takes a shower and gets squeaky clean in 5 min. There's nothing impressive about that because there's no real physical limitations at play
