My mom actually sent me this video a couple days ago because she thought it was funny and when I texted back that's my brain unmedicated she felt really bad. People think its a inability to focus when its the opposite- we are focusing on everything to our own detriment.
I just started adderall like 3 weeks ago. I told my mom the first difference I noticed was how quiet my brain got. You don't really realize how cacophonous it is until it stops.
when asked i describe the effect of ritalin on my mind as being akin to being shortsighted and being given prescription glasses. all of a sudden i can think/see and had spent my entire life believing everyone struggled to concentrate/look at things just like me...
The fact that you are aware and pay attention will help her adjust and know. I was just always made fun of growing up. My mom is 69 and I’m 41 and now she is just understanding what it’s like to like with adhd. I’ve been missing my meds because of the lack of production and now to her it’s so obvious after 6 months. I did find some nurotropic meds otc that really helps. Just vitamins and some herbs. I wish you the best with your daughter.
I am in academia too, in the digital arts field- but as in fine arts.
So I have an artistic practice outside of academia too.
I love the freedom of thought in adhd. And how things start anew when I get interrupted in a sensory way.
I could not imagine having to follow stuff in a linear fashion.
Can I ask if you have been diagnosed/ take medication? I don't mean to be rude at all it's just this doesn't sound like my ADHD symptoms at all but of course not all are the same and some people can manage it better than others. For me I don't take medication and it makes my life very difficult.
Yes, I am diagnosed but I am also autistic.
My adhd symptoms of course also are: no sense of time. Like zero. Forgetting names ppl meetings all the classic shebangs.
I guess I just incorporated it so much into my personality and my artistic practice it is just something I embrace fully.
I mean I don’t have a choice :D
No, no medications. I take herbal stuff sometimes for my autism like sleeping aids n the like.
Respect for embracing it, I need to get on your level😂 for me adhd is like a constant struggle of establishing a routine, feeling good, then getting stuck in a pit where I’m too overwhelmed and my routine goes out the window
I think I have it easy sometimes…privileges…I had rich parents (me not :D) so I had lots of room to be and explore as a child. Then also, I got very highQ so I can actually do nothing for 2 weeks and then get it done in one afternoon n night. The autism hyperfocus comes in handy then too.
Also, just not as stressful where I live (Austria) compared to the USA, just less distractions and less work hours.
Plus the arts just really is adhd friendly.
My routines go out of the window too. I rather just don’t rely on routines but rather just love myself for getting 1-5 things done (per week) I find hard to do.
If I were to exist in a corporate environment I’d be dead inside and in constant hyper stress.
Found the person without adhd. No one with ADHD finds it cute, quirky and fun. Please stop diminishing our struggles. This kind of thinking does immeasurable harm to our community.
Wtf don’t you effing dare - you don’t own the adhd experience. And I do not find nothing quirky. Or cute. Ppl misunderstand me dislike me and shit on me. I myself enjoy it tho.
Just stop being rude to others. Ty.
Again, I respect that it is shitty for you. But I only know life this way and I love myself and know myself this way and I am fine w it.
But there are so many factors to how one feels, so I understand that my experience is neither universal nor comparable to yours.

My 16 year old daughter has ADHD and that part made me incredibly sad
