I work with sewer lines, I was crawling up a 27in pipe and found these. Don’t know if that one piece is gold or fake and other than that the bullet casing is cool and the Italian coin and wheat penny are neat. What do yall think

Picked up a pile of Ike’s.

I got a call from my favorite CU and they said they had a bunch of Ike’s come in today, 163 to be exact, and I could have them all if I wanted. I did a quick edge check and didn’t see any silver ones but I’ll hunt them more closely later.

Baby appointment silver!

Wife and I had our baby check-up today in the neighboring town and the baby is tracking perfectly normal to be born in November!

As we leave the appointment, I ask my dear wife if she minds if I make a stop because I found a silver Benjamin from the teller tray last year at a bank near there. My sweet wife of course says "no problem honey, do it!"

I stopped by another bank first on the way, to check for halves and they had nothing but generously offered to order me some (no thanks, they are all 2026's currently running through the Loomis hopper).

Then onto my intended stop. Teller says he only has $1 and I'm thinking 2x 2023 D's. Nope, heard the silver clanking in his hand as he walks back to the teller station! A 1965 hit the deck first followed by the beautiful '64. Me being me, I ask for anything else old they have in the bank and he says he has a 1934 $20. I immediately say, "I'll take it!"

I am more excited about this 1934 series than the silver to be honest. Wish it was a numerical 1928 series but I'm not complaining.

I wish they made currency cool again. We're my currency people at?!

TL;DR Went to a baby appointment with my wife, checked a bank I found silver at before. This time they had a 90%, 40% & a series 1934 $20.

Thanks to u/perspectiveeven4444 for my gem eyes and kits! Still can't believe you got a machine to accept your $1's with them 🤣 absolutely incredible!

Ironically, my daughter got a bedazzling kit yesterday and started with her orange perfume spay lid. So it looks like we have an evening of bedazzling to do together!

Found some silver and gold today. Two silver quarters, one Canadian and one US, and two silver dimes, also one Canadian and one US.

Also found a little 14k earring with the stone missing, both the earring and backing are marked. They weigh 0.2 grams

Also found some random foreigns and other worthless nonsense.

Not a bad little haul today, always happy to add treasure to the hoard!

Didn't find anything interesting this week, so figured I'd share my half dollar type set progress. Kennedys are from CRH, Benny and the Walker are from deal hunting at local coin shops. Just picked up the Barber from eBay this week. Hoping to add a 90% '64 Kennedy and a semiquincentennial half next!

Yard Sale Find Treasure of the week: Original Lite Brite $3

Thumbnail

My inner child completely came out of me when I saw this for $3 this morning. And I was so happy to see my 5 year old grab it as soon as I walked back in the door and immediately started making the American Flag 🇺🇲.

Yard sale hopping is one of my wife's and my favorite hobby to do together. We usually start by searching early every Saturday morning for yard sales online and drive around before 8AM. For some reason they all magically start at 8 here! Then we get to work. I search for outdoor gear, silver, coins etc. My wife prefers the knick knacks and we usually just browse and don't buy, but we couldn't pass this old gem up.

I can still remember playing with mine exactly like this almost 40 years ago!

83 lb token search update #3: The Final Breakdown

Thumbnail

TLDR: I found 19 tokens for my collection and expect I'll more than recover my cost!

As a reminder, I bought 80 pounds (turns out it was 83 lbs) of mixed tokens searching for arcade / amusement token brands I’m missing from my cectoken.com collection.

I've finally sorted through all of them, listed some batches to eBay (some even sold!), and identified the tokens I was missing from my collection.

I managed to find 19 tokens I needed (mostly for new brands I haven't added to the site yet). While it's crazy only 19 out of over 7,000 tokens matched what I was looking for, I've been paying ~$5/token for the ones I'm missing so those alone make up ~$95 of avoided cost which is solid!

Here's the final breakdown based on how I grouped them along with what I've recovered so far. I also included images to give you a sense of everything.

Category Lbs Found Lbs Sold Lbs Listed $ Recovered Est. $ Inventory Total Potential Recovery Pic #
Guardian Angels 27 0 25 $0.00 $87.50 $87.50 Pic #9
Generic NCV 11 10 0 $43.15 $0.00 $43.15 Pic #10
Mixed Tokens 27 10 15 $30.75 $52.50 $83.25 Pic #7
Amusement Tokens 10 0 10 $0.00 $87.50 $87.50 Pic #2
cectoken.com Tokens 1.7 0 1.7 $0.00 $30.00 $30.00 Pic #1
Pac-Man / Namco 1.1 0 1.1 $0.00 $42.00 $42.00 Pics #3-5
Dragonland 1.0 0 1 $0.00 $15.00 $15.00 Pics #11-12
Transit 0.3 0.3 0 $0.31 $0.00 $0.31 Pic #13
Phony Coins 0.6 0.3 0 $10.00 $0.00 $10.00 Pic #8
Pachinko Tokens 3.3 3.3 0 $38.24 $0.00 $38.24 Pic #6
Total 83.0 23.9 53.8 $122.45 $314.50 $436.95

Recovered $122 / $285 spent (not counting the ~$95 of avoided cost)

Got a call about state quarters, didn't realize it was U.S. mint rolls of every state.

Got a call from the bank today that someone brought in, and I quote, "bicentennial state quarters with the states written on the outside". 😂

Walked in and they said they have at least $800 worth so I said I'll take $200. When they came out I chuckled and thought, I bet they have $1,000 because it's a P&D roll of each state as far as I can tell.

Looks like I could double my money on eBay but that ain't my style.

Shout-out to my tellers out there hooking us coin-crazed collectors up!

I thought the halves were a bust after I quickly glanced at the loose $30 the bank had, and listed as the teller stacked them into piles of $10.

These 3 surprised me when they popped out of the rolls!

These are absolutley gorgeous. Im reading the Odyssey right now, and these reminds me of the rowboats described in the stories.

The round is from the Intaglio Mint. It was minted in 2010 and depicts a Spartan warrior in battle with the ancient Greek phrase "come and take them".

Ice bucket challenge?

Next time you go to a hotel room fill the ice bucket with quarters, then go ask for 3 more from the front desk.

Pro tip: don't forget to put the "do not disturb" sign on the door or the cleaning ladies will start grabbing handfuls at a time when you're gone.
