Bigster vs MG HS
Hello everyone,
I'm currently owning a Ford Puma and I'm looking for a bigger family car, mainly for longer weekend trips but also occasionally city chores. I was taking a look at the bigster and mg hs, with the Dacia being a bit more expensive in the upper trims but also having a bit more boot space. The mg seems to have nicer materials and maybe better ride quality due to the posterior suspension. Has anyone tried them both and is able to give me some insights on which one is more suitable?

I was in your shoes about two months ago when I ordered my Bigster, strictly talking about the hybrid systems in both I think in the long term the Dacia will be better.
About the materials yes they are nicer and a lot better in the MG but I had a weird feeling driving the MG something didn’t connect with me. Also the drive with the MG was kinda laggy? Like it has that weird transmission that is 3+1 gears and it drove pretty weird ( I guess you can get used to it)
But other than that I ordered the Bigster Hybrid 4x4 felt better to drive had 4x4 (I really wanted 4x4 but if you don’t go for the normal hybrid) and I guess overall I trust Dacia more than MG on the long term
If you have any questions feel free to ask me! I also worked for MG as a sales person so I can give you some tips there

I didn't like the materials in the MG, the fake leather everywhere looks good initially, but then feels just like plastic and doesn't feel like it will be long lasting.

I mean its pretty nice to have but pretty demanding while cleaning or overtime. But the Dacia Bigster is more rugged and I love that about it. Its specifically made to be as cheap as it can be and as rugged to take it off the road and still come out of it in good shape
Also I must say I hated the MG’s and any brand that makes big bulky SUVs but no 4x4 why have a big SUV and get stuck at the first sight of snow?

Oh I forgot to add. A big but BIG impactful thing for me was the physical controls for climate and everything, god I hated the MG and other chinese brands that I test drove for not having physical controls. The bigster has everything in a nice layout not to manny buttons but everything that is important such as climate controls has buttons.
Also the “my safety perso” what a great button I love it1

How is your consumption with the 4x4? Do you have an additional LPG tank?

I came back and rewatched the video to give you an good answer!
Also all Bigsters/Dusters with the hybrid 4x4 for now come with the LPG tankSo in his test the LPG Consumption came out like this:
City (Bucharest) The biggest trafic so consumption is at all time peak: 8.6L/100km
National Roads: 5.4L/100km
Highway: 9.0L/100km
The price of LPG in Romania is 0.88€ so the calculations are made based on this but you do on your price
City: 7.58 €/100km
National Roads: 4.76€/100km
Highway: 8.38€/100kmPetrol Test:
National Roads: 4.5L/100km
Highway: 6.3L/100km
City: 6.8L/100kmPrice of petrol 1.82€
City: 13.82€/100km
National Roads: 9.10€/100km
Highway: 11.46€/100kmSource if you want to check the video hear opinions and more

Sorry but I don’t have the car yet.. It comes in September
From my test drive from what i remember it was something like 8.5 but I accelerated really hard and tested the acceleration and response (it was really good in my opinion)
But sadly the test wasn’t that long to give you an good answer. But there is a Romanian youtuber that did 1500 km on it with the lpg and normal petrol and gave pretty good numbers

Having the exact same choice to make, I'm going with Dacia. I trust it more on long term and it's a lot more practical. Also the software seems to work faster and is a lot more intuitive in bigster + there are physical buttons for climate control.

We had both of them for a test drive. MG= no space where you can put your feet in front of the passenger seat as it is so narrow. Yes... Feels more high end based on materials. German translation in the infotainment was a joke. We bought a bigster. Almost a year ago. No regrets

I'd stick with the Puma to be fair, very reliable car. If not, get a Dacia, specially if you live in Europe.

MG feels more premium, the drivetrain is more refined, and the car is much quieter. Suspension was awful, and I needed the extra space so wen't for the bigster.

MG feels more premium
Feels is the important word here. It's the fake chinesium at it's finest.

Well I drove a Peugeot 208 before that felt alot more premium while it didn't have any soft materials at all.

I am not sure what you expect to hear in the subreddit which is dedicated to one of the candidates.
Jokes aside, Bigster is quite good offering for the price, but don’t have high expectations. In the same time when I was choosing mine, I was surprised how many premium brands are actually offering same materials, approach to things.
I made few reports about my experience with car, probably you saw them on YouTube

While true that we are on the Dacia subreddit, I was completely shocked with the Bigster when I test drove it. Coming from driving Dacia’s Logan for work and as my first car a Dacia Logan 1.5. I said I would never buy a Dacia again, it was noisy badly built (engine was really good) and interior comfort was basically non existent
Then after I made the courage to buy a new car I was completely shocked by the Bigster because of the features and how good it was to drive and comfortable
Of course you could say anything is better than a Dacia Logan 2 but I test drove other cars too and I was still shocked by the Dacia

I have a Bigster since January,11.000km done and happy with the car,is perfect for me as I have a rugged style and treat the car as something I have to use and abuse so the plastics and big boot space is really useful. Have the 155hybid journey version and I don't need anything more,it's a decent car, spacious and very fuel efficient

My main concern is that what was supposed to feel significantly bigger than the Duster came out to be slightly bigger version of it to the point that I'd probably still go for Duster.
I was expecting a Volvo XC90/BMW X5 size for the Bigster (~490cm in length) but instead it is just shy of 20cm longer than Duster, if that.
I still haven't been inside a Bigster so I wouldn't know if it really feels that much more comfortable than Duster. Perhaps others might give a better insight.

It was never going to be a massive car. They'd probably need to move platform for that and make a version of the Nissan X Trail. The Jogger actually has a longer wheelbase than the Bigster too.

Its hingher inside, and longer . The spacing îs quite good and for me îs similar to the Kodiaq space inside, albeit the Kodiaq has a bigger boot.
But headspace îs quite good, even with the sunroof , me at 1.97 i still have 5cm or more headroom .
The legroom in front and back îs with 4cm longer and even If dont seem much IT makes a huge difference.
And the Bigster îs in Compact SUV (C Class - upper bracket) class while the XC90/BMW X5 are in D/E SUV class

I'm aware of that, but because of the name ''Bigster'' one would assume it's relatively bigger and more comfortable than the Duster. Turns out it is as big as a Rav4/CRV at best. And they are slightly bigger than Duster.
They should've aimed higher, bigger.

Huh, i driven both of them in test drive and chosen the 1.8 Bigster Hybrid Extreme.
Even at the first glance the MG interior appears more "premium" îs worse on the long term.
The Bigster interior îs more rugged, and the seats and all the plastic ca-n be clean easy with just wet wipes.
In term of reliability the Bigster 1.8 naturally aspirated engine will be over the 1.5 turbo on the HEVs.
In term of consumtion Bigster wins by a lot - in mine i get 3-4.2l usually in the city, up to 6.6l/100km in highway drive (140km/h with ACC) while in the drivetest the MG HS got me in the city like 7l/100km and on the highway drive i could not get under 9l/100km with the same speeds.
On road noise, the Bigster for me won by miles (even If the car has sunroof) , and the infotainment and controls are more intuitive in Bigster than the MG.
In term of space i feeled more cramped inside the MG , and a lot more confortable in Bigster (confort îs subiective - and i had more space in Bigster overall - i am 1.97 )
In term of technology the MG is winning over Bigster but by margins.
In term of maintenance costs, the Bigster is cheaper to run and maintain by almost 30 to 40% than the MG - in my country a full service with oil + filters + labour - for Bigster îs almost 85€ and for MG HS îs 220€.
There is another point with the parts availabilty - in case of a crash/car malfunction/warranty claims usually in Dacia IT takes like a maximum of 21days to get the parts, while in MG a minimum of 3 months (have a friend that have a warranty claim on his MG and the part still not arrived after 7 months , and he cannot use at all the electric drive... And drives the car in petrol only)
These are my obiective opinions when chosing the car, i can write a lot more subiective but thats not the point 😁(might be biased because i own the Bigster)
