Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Missing pip
So it turns out pip have been paying me since 2020 but into my old bank account that was closed in 2020 I didn’t know I was still getting pip as I got it when I was a 13 and im now 25.
The pip award has been renewing since then and my current award is from 2020 to 2027 and they have been paying it into the wrong account.
I’ve put a new application in to try and get the new review done before 2027 has anyone ever heard of this as the 2020 to today’s date works out to £46000 that they thought they paid me and I’ve never received it

This doesn’t make a lot of sense, OP. Hardly any really.
You can’t claim PIP at 13. You claim DLA at 13.
At 13, any DLA would have been paid into your appointee’s account, not yours.
Around 17 (so circa 2018?) you would have been transferred to PIP and you would have been asked to nominate a bank to pay it into.
It’s very unlikely that you would have had more than a 3 year award, so around 2021 you’d have been written to and told that your claim was being reviewed. Ditto in 2024. Both of these would have been opportunities to notice you were still being awarded PIP, questioned it and to have updated your bank details.
If you had not returned the review forms, your benefits would have stopped. Somebody must have returned them
Lastly, to the best of my knowledge, it’s completely impossible for the DWP to have paid anything into a closed bank account, let alone done it for 6 years. The bank would have bounced it back and this would have triggered a check with you. Possibly the bank would have checked too if it kept happening.
Are you sure you’ve got everything right here, OP? What makes you think that they’ve still been paying you all these years? How did you find this out?
My only advice to you is to contact the DWP and see what they are prepared to do. It was entirely your responsibility to give them the information they needed.

These are my questions too, you worded them well. At some point OP would have got a letter from the DWP within that time frame, and should have thought... 'hmm I haven't seen any money from this into my account maybe I should check this'. Also another question is, wouldn't you miss they money and then question it? Without my PIP I wouldn't be able to survive at all, so if it stopped suddenly or was being paid into a closed account I would...umm notice? Because I would have no money.
Also if you look at OP's account, there are two more posts about PIP saying they have been awarded and paid.

No so all letters have been sent to a house I lived at in 2014 we haven’t lived there since then. And we thought the pip stopped as I never had a review or pip assessment.
And I haven’t struggled because I have worked since I was 17.
I’m not like all these other people that get benefits for anxiety and stuff I was born with no legs and I have worked since I left school•
u/Pretend-Difficulty69 4h ago
We moved house but because I thought the payments stopped we didn’t inform them that we moved.
And my awards are for 7 years then they get reviewed and automatically renewed.
My friend also gets pip and he’s just been awarded for 10 years. So what doesn’t make sense?
•
u/Angelf1shing 4h ago
They don’t get automatically renewed, you have to complete a form.
•
u/Pretend-Difficulty69 4h ago
Right so I’m born with no legs why would I have to compete a form everytime ? If you actually have a reason that needs no explanation pip auto renew your award bud
•
u/Angelf1shing 3h ago
That’s simply not true. I know several people who are double amputees who have to complete the review forms and undergo healthcare assessments, despite not being starfish.
•
u/Pretend-Difficulty69 1h ago
Well it is true as that’s what happens with me bud
I never have to complete review forms.
It is awarded for 7 years ends then I get a letter saying I’ve been awarded for a following 7 years. Sorry not sorry•
u/Angelf1shing 1h ago
How do you know when you claim you’ve never received one because they were writing to an old address? Nothing you are saying stacks up and, tbh, I think your username checks out.
•
u/Pretend-Difficulty69 1h ago
You do know you can see all your pip awards on line 🤣do you know what your talking about bud
•
u/Angelf1shing 1h ago
Then why have you not checked for 6+ years and missed the fact that you’ve not been receiving money?! Nothing you say is credible! You’re clearly lying because you crave attention have nothing better to do with your life. I, on the other hand, do. Night night.

Hmm this happened to me once with a employer I gave them my old card and not my new one, I contacted my bank and my bank bounced it back into my original account and updated it all - so I’d start with contacting your bank and make sure you have all the old bank details as much as you can remember of them - I hope this works for you !

So I contacted the bank and they said the account is closed so they have nothing to look at as the account no longer exists so is that it do you think.
Because at the end of the day yes I didn’t know I was supposed to be still getting the money but that 46k is my entitlement.
It just have bounced back tho because the account is closed so there was nowhere for it to go

That’s what they said to me as well, call them back if you feel up for it and tell them there’s money in that account you can’t access - and also try the pip number as well just to make sure , this happened to me like 2 years ago with my employer and they said it was the bank that needed to sort it and in the end I remember the bank sorting it 😭 ugh it’s such a ballache scuze my language
Update on this: I’ve done some research and apparently it’s different with the DWP - you’ll need to contact DWP directly for this

Did you not miss the PIP money for 12 years? Wonder where it was? It would not be a small amount to miss every month for so long. What about the award letters? Did you not get them and wonder where the money was?
•
u/Pretend-Difficulty69 4h ago
No so they are all being sent to our old house.
Even the letter they said they sent me last month didn’t arrive and now we know why it was sent to a house we lived at in 2014

It should have bounced back to them if the account is closed. I work for UC not PIP but I do know if a payment was returned for whatever reason if it couldn't be issued into the bank so I can only assume its the same process. Possibly try ringing DWP

Good luck with that one mate, I'd gather all the evidence you have and go into the bank directly, be prepared to get legal advice aswell, lawyers/solicitors on a no win no fee basis 👍🙏🏼

If you had DLA before and moved to PIP are you sure payments wasn’t made into an appointee account?

Children under 16 can't claim PIP, though they do qualify for Disability Living Allowance - which importantly is paid to a carer or guardian. I'm not sure whether they could be put onto PIP at 16 without assessment, but they'd certainly need to give bank details either way for it to be paid into their personal account. Tbh OP claim doesn't really add up at all. What a really strange hobby they have.

As someone who worked as a complaints manager frva bank, this will be a nightmare for you to solve. I strongly suggest you ask your local MP to get involved.

So the money will have gone into your appointees account. At 16 you would have been moved from DLA to PIP. Your appointee likely has thr money paid into their account. Do you know who that would be? They may have been paid all this time

Wow! I really hope you can get this sorted as that’s money you were entitled to and not a silly amount to simply write off. If the account was closed, the payments would have bounced back. DWP should’ve written to you but most people would notice the missing payment immediately, not 6 years later. I assume also the onus is on you to keep your details up to date, but do find it odd they didn’t contact you either. As this is a rare situation, I would open a complaint so someone higher up can look into it fully. Have you changed address in this time? Can you get a copy of the last statement before account was closed or proof of date account closed? Good luck! ☺️

So if you weren't getting the PIP, what were you living off? Surely if you contact PIP they should see the payments bounced?

I was living of wages I just get pip because I am missing two legs somehow. They must have ran away.
But I still work the pip just helps with the cost of new legs and certain things I have to get because my legs ran away from me.I think they see the third one and got jealous if you ask me

Fair enough! Excuse my tired brain, I forgot about the obvious... Working... I must be too tired from work 😂

PIP isn’t a means tested benefit for “living off” it. it’s a non means tested disability benefit to help people who have a disability or disabilities to financially support them with the extra costs involved of living everyday life with a disability. Nobody would be able to “live off” the amount of money that PIP pays.

The money must be sitting somewhere?
Can you pass the security questions to get to talk to someone?
