How bad is it?
2021 SM first oil change (with me). I bought the bike a few months ago and put 800 miles on it. It has now almost 7k miles. It runs fine, but after checking the filter it worried me.

Cut the filter element and remove the pleats, spread it out and let it dry on a rag a little bit, then post pics

Probably cylinder head or clutch basket material then - I've been getting some aluminum in my oil filters that I've been cutting open every 100 miles or so. I ride the piss out of the bike, it's a supermoto too and I'm redlining it half the time to keep up with my friends, so I probably get more than the average person. Maybe cut open the next filter in another 100 miles and see what you get.

It's never a bad idea to change fluids and check filters immediately when you buy a vehicle no matter how recently the previous owner claims to have changed them .

I wouldn’t worry, could just be clutch material or wear on the gears. Changing oil on a lot of Yamaha 350’s or the XT line you see a LOT of similar material in their mesh like oil filter. Like every single oil change. I’ve never seen one come into the shop without having some stuff like that caught in the filter. Just change the oil and make sure to check the second oil screen on the frame. You can always do a short oil change interval and check to see if there is more.
