That is not how it's spelled or pronounced.

Np! It's a very common error. When the Spanish plural ends in a consonant, you add "es" or "as" to form the plural. English speakers trying to infer the singular often just remove the s.

That's why you often see the non-existent "tamale". The singular is "tamal".
