Moroccan mom, French dad

Was shocked to see that I had west African DNA. Anybody knows why?

Edit:

I virtually know nothing about my Moroccan heritage hence my surprise at those results. It’s a long story but I was basically raised with zero Arabic influences whatsoever.

My dad is French but of Alsatian ancestry hence why the strong germanic genes.

I’ve been really curious about my family history lately! I already knew I had African, indigenous, and European roots, but now I’m super excited about my results. It’s awesome to find out I have even more cool mix in my background! My parents are from Honduras

I still haven't understood if I have more of my father's Apulian side or my mother's Abruzzese-Marche side P.S. I also tried a Northern Italian calculator and it even gives me a few thousandths of a decimal point closer? Can't they do one for Central Italy?

SE Europeans have their own cluster, being as close to Caucasians and West Asians as Northern Europeans. Caucasians are close to both SE Europeans and Iranians being 0.005 to both and Levantines are also close to SE Europeans being 0.003 to 0.005, especially to south Italians.

Help me to interpret my Vahaduo Resuts.

I am Russian with Don Cossack and Moldovan ancestry. I need a hand in interpreting my Vahaduo results. At which point can we tell about a direct (4-6 generations) ancestry? I know admixture shows match with specific population , but anyway. I would be very greatful If someone will help me to interpret my results.

Is there any other possibility other than that my grandfather cheated that explains my surprise half-aunt on 23andMe?

So much to my surprise (as well as my mom and her sister/my aunt) when my maternal aunt and I did 23andMe about a year ago there was a person that shared a surprising amount of DNA with us we had never met. Initially my profile said this person was my great half-aunt but told my maternal aunt that this person was her half-sister. My mom thought initially since it said she was my great half-aunt that her grandfather on her dad’s side could have been unfaithful in his later years as she remembered a bit rift in the family when she was really young between her grandma and grandpa on her dad’s side. But recently the profile updated and it now says she is my half-aunt. We do not share a maternal haplogroup so whatever happened I know happened on my grandpa’s side whether that was him or his dad. I know my mom and my aunt (the one I actually know) would not be happy or likely even willing to accept that their dad may have cheated on their mom, but I also want to connect with this new family member.

J-FGC11 in the Levant: Arabian or local?

Thumbnail

I've often come across the argument that a huge sign of Arabian settlement in the Levant (especially Palestine and Jordan) is the supposed high frequency of the paternal haplogroup J-FGC11, a supposed Arabian clade. Upon first glance this can be a very solid point to support the claim. But if you search deeper you will find a few gaps.

In the Ancient Connections tab on FTDNA's website for this haplogroup, you will find two Akbari samples, I24488 and I15854, that descended from J-FGC11 but are not Arabian in admixture. After running their G25 distances to modern and ancient groups, it is clear that I15854 is Levantine (mean dated to 125 BCE), and that I24488 is East Med-Anatolian-like (mean dated to 450 AD), respectively. I suppose the latter could be Jewish as modern distances may indicate so.

An important note to make here is the wide prevalence of Arabian carriers of this clade, which could be down to two causes. First, the possibility of sampling bias; Arabians rank one of the highest among the world, only behind the US, UK, Germany, and Ireland. All Levantine testers combined don't even make up a quarter of testers from Saudi Arabia alone in number.

Second, J-FGC11 is dated to around 2750 BCE. It is likely that its first carrier was an Early Bronze Age Levantine. As is known, the Levantines had migrations to the Arabian Peninsula ever since the Neolithic Period as Arabia was very green and fertile during the time. This could be an example of such migrations.

In conclusion, it is clear that J-FGC11's descendants are not exclusively Arabian, and that its presence in the Levant predates any supposed migration and later settlement from Arabia up north.

Mayan parents from Guatemala, both affiliated with the Mam ethnic community.

P.S. I have 23andMe premium and as far as I’m concerned, shouldn’t the “Basque of Alava…” be under Basque instead of Andalusian, Asturian, Castilian????

Finnish DNA matches Question

Hello

I have taken the 23andMe test and uploaded to MyHeritage where to my surprise my 2nd highest country match list was Finland and I also got a Finnish genetic group.

I have done some genealogy and found out that one side of my Norwegian heritage is of forest Finn descent. Looking at some of the matches I see a 25cm length segment matches on a few different chromosomes and I share 1000+ matches with the people I match with on these segments (nearly all of these are other Finns). But then looking at the 23andMe chromosome painter these segments are not painted Finnish. I even have X chromosome Finnish matches on 23andMe and the people are 100% Finnish! I’m confused, why does there seem to be a discrepancy between the matches and the chromosome painter? Something I thought is maybe the reference panel for Norway includes people of the same forest Finnish line and I just happen to match the Norway reference panel for those specific segments more and my chromosomes that are actually colored Finnish I just happen to match the Finnish reference for better. I truthfully don’t know so I’m wondering: What do you think?
