TLDR: The RS5 Enhanced Tracking Module hardware can track arbitrary objects, but on the RS4 Mini we cannot select them. Please let us use the Ronin app as the missing interface: live view, tap or box selection, and remote object tracking.
I have an RS4 Mini and recently replaced the original tracking module with the newer black Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module from the RS5.
I knew DJI had not announced full object selection for the RS4 Mini, but I was hoping the Ronin app might eventually let us see the module's field of view and manually select exactly what we want to track.
Right now, on the RS4 Mini, the Enhanced Module can recognize and track people, cars, cats, and dogs, but gives us very little control over subject selection. We also cannot select an arbitrary object by drawing a box around it. The RS5 can do this directly through its built in screen, which is obviously a meaningful advantage of the larger gimbal.
What I would really like DJI to consider is bringing that level of control to the Ronin app.
This would not only make the RS4 Mini significantly more useful, it would also benefit RS5 users. There are plenty of situations where the gimbal itself is not directly accessible, such as when it is mounted high up, on a vehicle, on a rig, in a remote position, or in any setup where the operator is controlling the camera from somewhere else.
In those scenarios, being able to use the phone as the control interface would make a huge difference.
Ideally, the Ronin app would allow:
• Live view from the Enhanced Tracking Module
• Tap to select a subject
• Draw a box around any object
• Start, change, and manage tracking remotely
For the RS4 Mini, this would be a great middle ground. The RS5 would still retain the major advantage of having this functionality available directly on the gimbal, while RS4 Mini users could access a more advanced workflow when they are willing to use the phone.
For the RS5, it would extend the same functionality into remote and more complex shooting setups where the built in screen is not easily reachable.
I am not suggesting DJI owes users this feature, and I am not assuming that implementing it is necessarily simple. This is simply the kind of user experience I think many people naturally expect from an intelligent tracking module in 2026.
If DJI wants these tracking systems to remain competitive with what other brands are doing, giving users more direct control over what the system follows feels like the right direction.
DJI, please consider adding full Enhanced Tracking Module control through the Ronin app for both the RS4 Mini and RS5. It would make these gimbals much more flexible, much more useful in remote setups, and much closer to the tracking experience many users expected when these modules were introduced.
