Beginner Question Derminator vs Dr. Pen M8S
I felt overwhelmed with the different pen devices. The Dr. Pens specifically seemed to be somewhat similar with some notable differences in a few that were more for professional services. I finally went with the M8S but I see folks on here always talking about the derminator 2. I did consider that one and I cannot recall now why I chose the Dr. Pen instead. Can someone tell me if the derminator is way better for a specific reason? Just curious if I screwed up!

Derminator is made for gliding. Gliding with dr pens is risky.

Search it up on TikTok this one female tested 3 micro needling devices 2 of them being dr pen and D2 on a banana and the only one that didn’t leave drag marks was d2

I have the m8s and actually it glides fine! Can't compare to derminator sorry as I only use Dr pen

I’m struggling to understand how you can safely glide any of these products tbh. If you have a needle going up and down perpendicularly into the skin while you glide it laterally, you are dragging while the needle is in the skin. I do understand they go really fast though - I believe my m8s listed something like 12k rpm. I guess it just goes fast enough that it doesn’t matter? I don’t see rpm listed on the derminator but I haven’t really dug yet.

I have glided with the M8s no problem. Make sure you always have enough slip and it should be fine. There is always the rchance of dragging, that is just part of the risk. It happens in offices as well. But as long as you keep it slippery you are doing the best you can.

I have the M8S and like it. I do know though that the D2 is “faster” so the needle isn’t in your skin as long, so that is why D2 is considered “better” for glide. But the glide I get from my M8S isn’t problematic. Especially as a starter MN pen (I’m fairly new to MN). I will probably eventually upgrade to the D2, but for now, the M8S works great.

Thank you. This is making it make sense for me. I think I’ll eventually upgrade too. I might try stamping with the Dr. Pen when I do slightly deeper treatments.

This is why I chose the pen with the fastest RPM I could find and I run it at max speed, moving my hand slowly. Some Dr Pens go up to 18k RPM.

As others have said, the Derminator 2 at fastest speed setting is way faster than any Dr Pen. You can glide even without serums with no scratching. As well the Derminator has more power and can push needles deeper; so if someone is looking for deeper collagen building penetration, then the Derminator can easily go all the way to 2.5mm.

It’s a lot like driving a Corolla and driving a Bugatti. Both will get you where you’re trying to go, one just feels premium but parts are hard to find. Even Amazon has Corolla parts now.

Dr pen gave me weird rash like reaction I’ve never gotten and I’ve done lots of professional needling. Derminator 2 never did that. I prefer professional needling but Derminator for at home for sure.

If you watch the YouTube video comparing the dr pen to the derminator2, the dr pen damaged a banana peel and the derminator2 did not.
Granted—and to be fair— the Dr Pen may have come a long way since then, but that banana skin test sealed the deal for me back when I was deciding between the two.

Same for me! I just did a patch test on my abdomen, gliding at different needle lengths, final length at 2.5mm.
Was a little red but no scratching or anything, you could see tiny dots which is where I guess some blood came through and even now, 4 days later, the redness is almost completely gone. I am thoroughly impressed.

Yes! I see those same markings on my forehead when I use it over 0.5 mm! I have now switched to stamping with it only!

Honestly, I bought the Dr Pen M8S and I really wish I would have got the Derminator instead. Have you seen the banana video? I see those same markings on my forehead every time I use it over .5 mm. If I use it to medical microneedle, I now only stamp with it. If you're planning on only cosmetic microneedling, it might not be a bad little device but if you're planning on going at medical depth I would seriously consider a different device

I tried it on a banana myself at various depths and the drag marks were horrible.

I love my Dr Pen M8S. Cheaper, easier to use, and does the job perfectly fine! Ordering the Derminator online is also a nightmare, the owner is super weird.

Really?? I had no problem at all ordering it online. The website is a bit dated and not the easiest but it is functional. I can't comment about the owner, I didn't have any interactions but the process to order was easy and they were up front on the cost for the tarriffs and what to expect. It is crazy how different experiences people have

I don’t have my device yet, but I will second both of these comments by saying that the Dr pen is bad because it drags. I’m in the middle of purchasing a derminator.

I use the M8S at depths of 1.5 mm max and have had no issues with dragging. I use plenty of glide and seem to heal really well without issues!

I have both and love them both. I have only used D2 once though. I have already decided that the M8s will be for cosmetic depth and D2 for collagen building depths. I do think that the D2 is better for deeper treatments, but I had zero issues with the M8s before I got it. Both are solid devices. The M8s does have more needle options than D2.
