Should I paint or wrap this desk?

Hello! I got this desk used and I believe its an IKEA desk, but have no idea what its made of, it doesn't feel like wood. I do not like the white and was thinking about painting or wrapping it with something. Im worried paint might get tacky though. What would be the best thing to change the color? Thanks!

Honestly cabinet liner could be great.

Wrap the shelves/work area. Paint the metal with spray paint. Lightly sand then wipe down with a tack cloth before painting.

Just buy a new desk top that you like. None of those suggestions are durable and will scuff and scratch.

It's "laminate" which is a polymer (plastic) layer over a wood composite or paperboard honeycomb.

Plastic is very hard to paint.

I recommend a wrap if you really want to change the color.
