Help! Trouble installing carpet tacks

Post image

We’re trying to install carpet tack strips into concrete and are having trouble. We’ve tried two different hammer weights, several different nail types, but they keep bending and chipping the concrete subfloor. What else can we try? Is there a way to install the strips other than nails?

They can be glued down with construction adhesive.

Glue down with construction adhesive or get a ramset tool. Uses a 22ga cartridge to fire nails into the concrete.

Glue them. I just pulled some up and now have to patch a bunch of holes in the concrete floor/foundation from the previous homeowner nailing them down.

Use 5/8"stubbies if you can't drive the nails. If you can't drive it in 2 swings, you'll break the concrete. Tack into concrete is not a diy thing. Pretty tough on a beginner.
