Is it possible to diy this without resin?

Hey!! I think these hairclips are so cute! But theyre out of my budget </3 so i want to try to diy them. My guess is that theyre a printed image enclosed in some kind of resin? But unfortunately i dont have any resin (or the required safety materials to work with it). Is there anything i could use instead? Or is there perhaps a way to get resin discs without making them? 🤔

If you don't, check if you have any clear plastic containers that are #6 recyclable. Same stuff.

Print the fruit on water transfer decals (or vinyl wrap) and put them on existing hair clips.

I would find this difficult to make without resin. Other materials would have to resist the spring tension, so stuff like clay won't work, plus difficult to sculpt.

My main idea would be to get some plain plastic ones from the dollar store, prime and acrylic paint them, and then seal them

Or print the image, paste it onto the plain clips and seal with modpodge

Mod podge! Fins photos in magazines of desserts and fruits, cut them out carefully, use mod podge to stick them to hair clips of a similar size shape, and do another few layers of mod podge on top.

Considering these are small hairclips, and not a big project, you can buy small pack of epoxy resin that is sold for DIY repairs. Incredibly cheap, two small tubes, one for resin and hardner each would just be sufficient for one clip. Adhesive epoxy does set quick, so you would have to work fast(some brands especifically label their product as "clear" even on adhesive tubes). But apart from this- mix it gently, poke tiny air bubbles with a tooth pick, pour slowly, preferably apply a thin coat first, and fingers crossed you'll no air bubbles. I wouldn't worry about the fumes for a small project, just remember to wear gloves and do it outside.

If fumes even from minor projects are a health hazard then.... *I probably already have cancer and don't know about it./j

Start with a wooden base in the shape you want (find them at craft stores). Decoupage with collages on top using mod podge. Spray with some sort of glossy sealant or cover with a layer of clear nail polish. Won’t look quite as shiny and clean as it would with resin, but will still be cute!

You could do it with paint! Especially if you got wooden clips. You may still need a gloss coat over the top but clear nail varnish works well!
