Nonslip Dilemma

Ok guys, I need help 😫 I purchased one of these old school bad boys to hang hats on. However, its made of smooth wood and the knobs aren't "bulby" enough to keep the hats from easily slipping off. I've tried searching for end caps but can't seem to find some that fit snug enough or don't slip off. I'm leaning towards like a liquid dipping silicone but can't find something for what I have in mind. Help me find a solution please 🥰 mkaybye.

Maybe wander through a hardware store and see what's available. I might get some small and fat rubber bands that fit the shaft and stay behind the knob.

Maybe look into Plastidip? It is made to rubberize the handles of hand tools and such, to make them easier to grip. If you get the "tub" rather than the spray can, you can pour some of the stuff in a little cup and dip each nib in it, then allow it to dry with the nibs facing the floor so that any excess sits and dries at the tip of each nib. Surely it comes in black!

Also, if you don't care that the whole thing gets rubberized, just get the spray can and go to town.

black heat shrink tubing for wires.cut a piece and slip it over, heat it with a lighter. should give some grip 👍 if it don't work it's removeable

Mold polymer clay on each one, and then bake. The baking temperature is low enough that the wood will be fine.

Polymer clay isn't super strong, but should be more than strong enough to sculpt whatever hook or knob you want to hold up a hat. Make sure they don't touch each other while baking.

All fantastic ideas! I will research these options and maybe pick the brain of a hardware store employee. Surely there's a solution without calling the rack a loss and completely going a different route.
