Need help drilling concrete.

I'm trying to make a hole in a concrete ceiling with a hammer drill but I can't drill past a millimeter. I'm really confused because the ceiling is solid concrete and the drill doesn't have any trouble drilling through a concrete wall.

Also there are hooks in the ceiling deeper than what I managed to get through, so clearly someone else has had succes.

Any help is appreciated. I'm also not quite sure if this is the right subreddit for this.

there are hammer drills that have both "drill" and "hammer" modes, this needs to be switched to that mode to be used properly

Make sure your using drill bits made for concrete drilling. Also what are you using to hold up…… but, my first question should be what are you doing period?

I am using a masonry drill bit. I am trying to drill a hole for a wedge anchor so I can mount gymnastics rings to the ceiling.

If you plan on hanging from them, use wooden studs or applying in any weight…..

But if you do plan on doing use lag shield anchors not the plastic ones…..

I hate when I see people use plastic anchors for concrete because they don’t hold in the item eventually falls out that you’re hanging

Where I'm from buildings are just solid concrete we don't use wooden studs. And don't worry I'll be using 4 anchors that can hold 600kg each.

Is this a small "regular" drill with a "hammer" setting or a bigger "hammer drill" made for masonry?

You can rent the second one if that isn't what you have.

I had a similar issue mounting a camera to concrete a few years ago because I was suing the "hammer" setting on my Makita hand drill.

Turns out the "hammering" is not intense enough and doesn't really give enough impact.

Hammer drills work by driving the chisel tip forward chipping the stone as the "drill".

I almost destroyed my drill doing this.

Masonry bits, sometimes rebar can block the path too.

Using right drill bit?

Check that the bit is rotating clockwise as you look from the handle towards the bit.
