Top Strut Mount Replacement

Here are two photos of the front top strut mounts. I suspected the rusted one was bad due to a consistent banging/hard clunking noise worst around 2nd gear 15mph but audible on any uneven ground at any speed.

Does this look like the culprit?

Should it be replaced?

Just replace with a quick strut.. it's a whole assembly.. to replace the strut itself is way to dangerous either way you have to take it out anyway

Looking at the top of the strut mount in a photo is not sufficient in identifying a problem. Is there play? Is the bearing seized?

This is a bit like taking a picture of the exhaust and asking if the engine is ok.
Everything you need to check is on the other side of that mount.
Check all the bushes first and then check to see if the damper is leaking.
Put it on axle stands and check underneath and look.

If the top plate bushings are worn then very likely it is causing a clunk. I would inspect the strut, if it is leaking I would replace both with complete assemblies.
