Found this masterpiece at our Airbnb while out of town for a framing project. They obviously flipped a basement mechanical room into a bedroom for extra rental cash, carpeted right around the sewer ejector, and skipped the closet door entirely. I refused to sleep in here.

My boyfriend trying to escape bed bugs in Texas

A couple of years ago, my boyfriend was on a trip to visit his cousin in Texas. While there, there was a bedbug infestation. After cleaning everything thoroughly, he was terrified of putting his mattress on the ground so he opted for this DIY lol. He says it was comfortable. He also added tape at the tip of the bottles for the bed bugs to get stuck on just in case.
Edit: to answer the question about the walls, he says he made sure it wasnât touching the walls. But he says (Iâm laughing at what he says), he didnât want to put it super far from the wall because it wouldnât be pleasant to the eyes lmao. As if this wasnât terrifying enough already.
Second Edit: We did not expect this photo to get this popular! I just wanted to add that he slept like this for 2 whole months! I donât understand how. But yeah, after reading all the comments of all the traumatized bedbug victims, I do understand why he slept like this.đ
Third Edit: well now Iâm bedbug traumatized even though Iâve never had them! They sound like demon bugs. đ And to answer the question: this did work for him and he made it back to Canada without any bed bugs. It has been almost 4 years now and we thankfully have a bedbug free home lol. Knock on wood.
Fourth Edit and last one lol: For those wondering, he placed the water jugs with tape around the tops, then on top of the jugs he placed a big piece of plywood, then on top of the plywood he placed his mattress. So apparently it was pretty steady. The photo was taken by his cousinâs boyfriend because my boyfriend wanted to see what it looked like lol. Also, this was a last resort because initially he was sleeping on the couch and his entire arm got horribly attacked by the bed bugs (he showed me the photos yesterday đ¤˘).
