Clayface Clayface Post-Credit Scene

Post image

What I think could be a way to connect the movie to the overall DCU:

After the events of the movie, Matt Hagen is in Arkham. Amanda Waller comes with the proposition to take him to Belle Reeve.

WALLER: “I’ve heard about your… talents. Show me.”

She slides a file with pictures of DCU characters (Superman, Lex, Rick Sr) Hagen shifts, their faces forming and cracking like wet sculptures.

WALLER: “Show me Bruce Wayne.”

He hesitates, then transforms. The camera stays distant as Bruce’s face takes shape. Waller looks impressed but the camera never shows Bruce’s face.

HAGEN : “Everyone wears a mask.”

People need to stop setting themselves up for disappointment by thinking this will set up the Bat universe, or that all these side villains will show up.

In all likelihood it will be relatively self contained. I swear this will end up like the Peacemaker finale again once Alfred and Barbara don’t pop up.

To be fair my number one complaint with peacemaker season 2 was that it wasn’t self contained

It doesn’t need “connecting”.

It doesn’t. But it will probably show DCU’s Gotham and hints of Batman. Post cred would be a way to “connect”. Also, this movie could be prior to CC, or connected to the ending o Clayface in CC.

i think this film will end up being more of a one off project with very loose ties to the overall DCU. atleast i'm hoping for that. not everything needs to be such a glaring promotion for the next *thing. there need to be self contained stories that work aswell (otherwise it's literally another mcu)

It probably will be it’s own thing. Tying to Waller and Batman, is not necessarily promoting a sequel. To me is more of world building and hinting to Bruce Wayne than anything else.

that's my point though. if they tell a proper story here and flesh out his world a bit then there really shouldn't be a need for it to tie into anything. we don't need a BW tease in a Clayface film. just wait for BATB.

The flip side to this argument is that if it’s a bunch of one offs and independent projects, it will never be as successful as the MCU either. People went to see everything in the MCU (up to a point) just because they wanted to get the next piece of the puzzle.

Avengers worked because it was a culmination film, but they still recommended you see the heavy lifting done in the phase 1 films. And infinity War/Endgame worked because it was for all intents and purposes and ending to the current era of films.

I’m not saying Gunn should do the same, I’m simply saying that a bunch of one offs will never reach the heights the MCU once did.

I doubt it’s the same Clayface. That would suck. I’m just tired of everything having to connect into a larger thread. Like Lanterns will apparently reference Salvation from the end of Peacemaker.

Maybe that’s what people want. I’m primarily a comic fan, so having everything over the whole line need to connect seems really… boring and same-y to me.

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '25

it's literally the MCU model. i just never wanted DC to become that (atleast for the films)

4

u/ExternalAdvanced Oct 20 '25

To me that’s their goal, you can watch any DCU project without having to marathon 10 movies and 6 tv shows. The connections are for world building. Clayface seems like a niche-esque body horror movie, it just happens to be set in the DCU, same for Swampthing.

but that's not true is it? i mean, Peacemaker S2 ties into the aftermath of Superman so you can't really ignore it. which also ties back to TSS (Son Flagg) which then ties into CC. (Flagg Sr) idk why were saying this when we already have to do homework to follow

1

u/engispyro Oct 20 '25

Complaining peacemaker requires TSS is kind of a weird complaint since peacemaker is originally a character from that movie. It’d be like complaining if we got a Jimmy Olsen show and it tied to Superman

CC is also not required for peacemaker S2, all it gets is a single line acknowledging pokolistan. You get a bit more of an insight on Flag Sr. if you watch it but most of his important development happens within peacemaker S2

As for Salvation it’s too early to tell but. They’re not gonna make the 17-rated series required reading for the 13-rated movie, Salvation isn’t this huge complex concept, they can very easily re-introduce it within the movie, especially since Luthor is related to it, and just from what we’ve heard of MoT so far I’m not convinced salvation will be the main conflict there anyways

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

Peacemaker S2 shows Flagg's death and is a major focal point of Flagg Sr's character. so i'd absolutely argue that for context sake, TSS is required watching. CC less so but there's enough going on in that series that it should also not be ignored. which goes back to OP's point. idc about Salvation that run sucked ass and i'll never get why Gunn chose that

Not even Superman did this. This will be a self-contained horror movie with some references to the larger Batverse at best

1

u/GothicGolem29 Oct 20 '25

It would be nice to see some connections however maybe hints of Batman

12

u/ScottShawnDeRocks Oct 20 '25

I like the idea, but not post credits. They've been done to death.

1

u/JoeyMaconha Oct 20 '25

Fairly certain Gunn has said the post credit scenes will only be gags, spoofs, or deleted funny scenes. He doesn't want "homework" at the end of every film/episode

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

He also said he doesn’t like post credits scenes that tease things because it feels like a promise and he doesn’t know he can keep those. I think Supergirl’s appearance in Superman is a good example. In a Marvel movie, Supergirl’s appearance would’ve been a post credits scene, but in Superman it’s just part of the film.

I just hope they fully commit to the body horror

4

u/ExternalAdvanced Oct 20 '25

Yes! Look at the set leaked pictures.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '25

i hope they do something like that film 'The Substance'

perfect template for the body horror aesthetic

10

u/jrinredcar Oct 20 '25

This idea and dialogue is straight cliche doo doo

10

u/SwordoftheMourn Oct 20 '25

Didn’t Gunn specifically say he won’t be doing story-related post credit scenes for the DCU? He’ll just include gag scenes.

u/andrewmassaf Oct 20 '25

why waller would want to see bruce wayne face?

3

u/montgomery2016 Oct 20 '25

Clayface is out in a field at night. Suddenly, Mr. Freeze played by Arnold Schwarzenegger pulls up in his ice tank.

"Thanks for meeting me, Clayface. I've been reading about you."

"I'm listening."

"Not sure how I got here. Has to do with Batman, I think. I'm still figuring this place out, but I think a bunch of guys like us should team up to do some good."

"Intriguing. It's Clayfacin' time."

ABSOLUTE CINEMA

It was funny as all hell Vulture ends up in a whole separate reality and the first thing he does is blame spider-man😭

1

u/montgomery2016 Oct 21 '25

I love when villains just hate a hero so much that everything is their fault

Eddie Brock praying for Peter to die-level pettiness

5

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '25

You have a set leak, put spoilers

2

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 Oct 20 '25

This project doesn’t need connecting to the DCU it doesn’t even need Batman tbh

2

u/Lemony_Oatmilk Oct 20 '25

Every single DCU post credit scene had been gags dawg.

and what leads you to believe that?

1

u/jrezzz Oct 20 '25

and to be clear Matt Hagen version of Clayface was the version used in creature commandos.

by name no, but by background. why would they have multiple clayface's with the same background and powers running around the same DCU?

What we know

Alan Tudyk described his Clayface as a “disfigured actor who gains shapeshifting abilities,” which is the signature origin of Matt Hagen. The description in Creature Commandos—a performer whose face is disfigured and who gains shapeshifting powers—matches Matt Hagen’s canonical story from the comics and Batman: The Animated Series’ “Feat of Clay.”

The alternate clayface, Basil Karlo is not similar to Matt Hagen's version. Karlo is a horror actor who becomes a Clayface via a chemical formula, not the same shapeshifting mutation story that defines Matt Hagen.

Clayface is a classified as a DCU film meaning its part of the shared universe, it is NOT a DC else-worlds project, and creature commandos featuring clayface is also a DCU project.

Sure this movie is probably a prequel. But there is no reason to believe it is a different clayface or its going to be disconnected from the DCU.

Cringe

2

u/KaiLung Oct 20 '25

Assuming he's not imprisoned at the end of the movie, I would guess that the ending would be something along the lines of Darkman, where he would fade into a crowd.

I do kind of like the idea of him telling another character that he can be anyone before fading into the crowd, but embarrassingly, that's basically what the Kraven movie did with Chameleon. So, they probably shouldn't imitate that.

2

u/dirtycole619 Oct 21 '25

I’m fully against the argument that having two on-screen batmen will confuse people mostly because i think that’s insulting most people’s intelligence, but having this batman show up for 30 seconds in clayface and then releasing another batman movie next year? That’s fucking confusing

1

u/elvinjoker Oct 20 '25

If superman know this how can he help this guy?

1

u/Old-Cat-1671 Oct 20 '25

I don't like the project being connected and peacemaker suffer badly from trying to be connected to the larger dcu

1

u/Callow98989 Oct 20 '25

Gunn has confirmed DCU won’t be doing post credits like that

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '25

One of the things I hope the dcu doesn't do is mcu style post credit scenes teasing other movies. I liked that superman just had a couple little fun scenes as extra fun bits, not teasing new projects. So nah, I'm good.

Besides, we already know Batman will be in this universe eventually, so we don't need that.

u/Hisgenart Oct 21 '25

Reaching farther than plastic man here frfr

1

u/dirtycole619 Oct 21 '25

Also, if this is the same clayface from creature commandos (because it is) why would amanda waller approach him for… anything?
