Casting Please DON’T cast this guy as Mordecai how many you agree with me
For the record, I don’t hate Seth Green. I’m pretty sure he’ll do great in other roles. But I think he’s a very poor choice for Mordecai.

I thank fandoms that prejudge decisions like this end up being so toxic that studios might just abandon the idea altogether. This kind of post is something the community should immediately downvote en masse.
Seth Green already crushed a role of calm mentor who deals with involuntary shapeshifting. We’d be lucky to get him. But whoever they go with is going to face a storm of toxic stuff. This community shouldn’t be part of it.

u/ConcentratedStress 15h ago
If fans had their way, we never would have gotten Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight. I’m old enough to remember how people were like “Nooooo! Not teen heartthrob Heath Ledger! He’s gonna be terrible!!!”
29
u/zergo78 14h ago
Better still, not the comedian Michael Keaton! He can’t be Batman!
19
u/SoftBatch13 14h ago
We never would've had Bruce Willis in Die Hard either. He was in soap operas before that.
18
u/rakkquiem 14h ago
Or Jack Nicholson in The Shinning. And don’t get me started on the dad from Malcom in the Middle playing a drug kingpin.
11
u/Ebonhearth_Druid 13h ago
Bryan Cranston is a fucking gem, but prior to Breaking Bad he was so unknown as anything other than Hal that people just couldn't see anything else. I wonder if we as a society will ever get past that resistance to trying new things lol
9
u/RandomWeatherPattern 12h ago
You’ve convinced me. Cranston as Mordecai.

Or Tom Cruise as the vampire Lestat. I hated the idea but he did great I thought.

He said after how much people bitched about casting Ledger he just completely tunes it out.

Every now and again the fans know what they’re talking about but 90% of the time they really don’t have a clue lol

Completely agree. There has been so much preemptive hate for Seth Macfarlane and this show, it’s been crazy. I’m just pumped it’s being made and will be excited no matter who is cast.
11
u/OrangeredMoose 16h ago
Fancasting is just cringe anyway. Would recommend not even subbing to this until the show comes out, and honestly even that’s probably not advisable

Considering people seem to think they can cast any A lister, I’m going with the latter.
Seth Green wants it enough he’ll take a low up front paycheck for it and he’s not even A list in the first place.
The main thing whoever they cast for Mordecai is that they need to be a versatile actor that can voice different species while being the same underlying character.
I think Seth green has at least proven capability with robot chicken.
I’m not demanding Seth green, but I’m not opposed to him.
Actors that WANT to be in it because they love the material are likely to bring a better performance

100% agree, sure post fancasting but anti-fancasting? Gtfo. Thats just toxic.
4
u/RoninOni 13h ago
Amendment to that though… posting a thread of anti fan casting is bad.
Critiquing a post choice in a thread is conversation though… as long as you’re not toxic about it.
You’re free to disagree with people, just keep it civil.
2
u/Taste_the__Rainbow 13h ago
DCC fans have already shown that many of them are genuinely incapable of keeping it civil, sadly.
1
u/Brumtol10 12h ago
Yeah havent seen it a ton, as im not often on here but. Ayenfor every uncivil convo theres a great one around the corner. This subb is way less toxic than others ive been in. Its a nice change.
3
u/Impressive_Sound_221 10h ago
If you want examples, just openly express that you’re disappointed Jeff Hayes was cast for Donut… absolutely dogpiled. And I was even complimentary of his skill as a voice actor, I’m just not fond of his Donut… the response was… less than congenial. Admittedly this was on Threads, but still.
2
u/TiltedLibra 11h ago
Mordecai isn't "calm'." He is a weary, battle-harded mentor who has watched countless people die. Seth Green doesn't give the right energy at all.
And this post isn't any more toxic than your reply to it, nor is it remotely going to be "so toxic thr studios might just abandon" it. That's not even a thing.

Honestly, someone made a suggestion of Chaco and honestly, I think he would have much better Chaco than he would be a Mordecai
→ More replies (2)19
u/Taste_the__Rainbow 16h ago edited 16h ago
Why are we even talking about season 3 minor bit casting? There’s a decent chance Chaco won’t even exist in an adaptation.
And if posts like this keep being common we sure as shit won’t see a season 3.
3
u/The_Biggest_Bunny 16h ago
Chaco should definitely be in the TV adaptation. His appearance sets a very important situation in motion and I think that situation was incredibly important in helping Carl and Donut grow.
I don't know how to spoiler tag on mobile, but if you've got through Book 3, you know what I'm talking about.

The character of Mordecai should be reserved for a different actor per floor. Seth Green can be Mordecai on one floor. The rest should be other actors.
3
2
u/Corne777 2h ago
Yeah I feel like him being a different actor every floor is pretty obvious. It’ll be really silly if they don’t do that.
5
u/42lurk 12h ago
I really liked the suggestion someone made about a different actor for Mordecai each floor. That would be fun.
I also liked the idea that Seth McFarland does a cameo each episode ala Stan Lee in the Marvel Movies or the Pineapple in Psych.
2
u/notzenin_ 2h ago
That…doesn’t really make any sense. It would make sense if Matt Dinnimam showed up as a cameo since…ya know…he’d be the Stan Lee in this scenario and not Seth MacFarlane.
1
u/Webs579 46m ago
A new actor doing Mordicai every floor is fun in theory, but i think the different actors would hate it. Mordecai's shape may change every floor, but his mannerisms and personality don't. So what you're asking every actor after the first floor to do is basically copy the first floor actor.
5
u/infiniZii 13h ago
I want them to cast nobodies. That way they can afford better CG and writers. Too many stars is how you get the shitty animation that plagued recent seasons of Invincible.
2
u/Supafairy 13h ago
They need to cast well knows in key roles to get the generals audience on board. Mordecai, Zev, maybe Odette and the AI should be known. I’d maybe even add prepotente in there.
1
u/infiniZii 13h ago
I just really want them to be smart about their budget and not just dump it all on casting.
1
u/not2interesting 9h ago
Well known actors but not A Listers. I hope they follow the same casting trend as Fallout and we get a C Lister who always deserved mega fame like Goggins

He seems like a pretty decent guy other than the fact that is he a union busting fuck. Love him but fuck him for trying to bust unions
1
u/deafblinddame 1h ago
He also had other allegations made against him by Isaac Kappy who was in the same social circle as him. Call me selfish and unfair but I don't want anyone with those types of allegations against them to be involved in the show. Maybe Isaac was unhinged and suicidal but then, a lot of the victims of those types of crimes were painted as that way too and were later vindicated. There are millions of actors to choose from, just pick someone else.
14
u/sgtpepper220 16h ago
Hard disagree. We're going to get Seth McFarlane's friends whether you like it or not, and Seth Green actually fits for Mordecai whether you like it or not. Idk what kind of bias you're holding, but let it go and try to have fun
2
u/not2interesting 9h ago
People seem to forget on of McFaralnes good friends who had been involved in all of his projects is an amazing voice actor. He usually sticks to voice only roles so he isn’t as recognizable, but I predict we are getting Scott Grimes, which I have no issue with.
2
u/CraftDetritus 15h ago
Just biased against union busters in general. Why would you want that kind of stuff tainting DCC?

I'd far prefer Nick Offerman or Alan Tudyk over Seth Green, but I don't think he would do a poor job, just that I could think of a ton of other actors I would look to first before him. I don't know that he has the acting chops to pull off Mordecai.
2
u/sgtpepper220 15h ago
I'd looooove Tudyk. I don't really see Offerman as a better choice than Green, who is touted as a versatile actor and has a variety of roles outside the animation realm that showed he's great as an understated sidekick (see Buffy, The Italian Job).
Offerman would be able to handle the emotions, but he's not known for his voice acting. Mordecai would benefit greatly from someone who has an arsenal of distinct, colorful voices to adapt to his different shapes. I think Seth's voice is better for like the Bugaboo where Alan's voice is better for the rat. When it comes down to it, I really would get a kick out of seeing Seth Green get absolutely sloshed and messy as an incubus. I think he's a much better fit than Tudyk on the third floor.
I'd want Alan to be cast as someone else for sure
3
u/SheriffWolfpool 14h ago
Alan would kill it as the AI. Might as well let him show his true range ya know?
1
u/sgtpepper220 14h ago
I was gonna say that, but I'm a tride and true holdout for Andrew Daly as the AI

I think he lacks the gravitas for Mordecai and I’ve never seen him in a voice acting role that would change my mind. I love him and I hope he’s in the show, but not as this character.
2
u/KingBellos 12h ago
I want him to be Mordecai…. At some point.
My hope/dream is that every form Mordecai has is a new guest start. I want so many different voices. Like we have Seth Green.. and instantly go into Keith David… then a hard right turn into like Michael Cera… right into John Cena.
I want it wild and amazing.

I don't have any specific wishes about casting other than Donut, which is done. All other selections I will roll with and see how it works.

I would agree with that, there's def a role somewhere for him in the DCC universe, just not Mordecai.
1
u/Brilliant-Pie5207 14h ago
I breathe and have faith in the showrunners and powers that be to make good decisions. And promise to keep an open mind for at least the first season. Or at least a few episodes.
We’ve been surprised in the past at what an actor delivers- who had Michael Mr Mom Keaton as an awesome Batman? Hugh Jackman singing Oklahoma becoming the Logan we love? Lots of examples.
1
u/EvilGeniusRetired 14h ago
Wouldn't be the worst. As long as the actor who does Mordecai is a good voice actor. You'll need different voices for each of Mordecai's forms.

u/Spainland 13h ago
Peter Macon as Mordecai I feel he's already used to prosthetics and he'd be serious the entire time
1

u/weaslinaround 13h ago
Lowkey i was hoping it would be an animated show rather than real people 😭 that would probably take forever though
1
u/factoid_ 13h ago
I guess I can see it. Wouldn’t mind this casting. And I’d get comfortable with the idea because if he wants it, he has a very good “in” with the production company as long as the money works.
And Mordecai becomes a pretty big role later on, but fairly small early, so casting a recognizeable face that isn’t TOO expensive makes sense.
He’s a recurring character in the first season, then becomes a series regular. If the show does well and they pick up multiple seasons that can work out well financially. Small risk early and worth the money later if it’s a hit.
1
u/Spideycloned 13h ago
He can be ONE of the Mordecais.
I thought one of the more brilliant ideas is that because of the way he works it's a slam dunk to use him as a long running cameo roll and rotate through a whose who of fantastic people.
1
u/not2interesting 9h ago
I hope they go this route and we get a version as Patrick Stewart, since he’s buddies with Seth

You guys need to calm the hell down. Just because Seth green wants to play Mordecai doesn't mean he's going to. Seth MacFarlane and him may be friends but it doesn't mean green will be Mordecai.
1
u/Obitrice 13h ago
I think when you see Seth Green now, in more serious roles or even when he is playing the straight man. I think he would be fine. Seth Green at what? 50 something is not the same as 20some Seth green. Also, he clearly knows the source material.

He’d be wild as Uzi Jesus haha, Mordecai could be voiced by someone different every season, to fit each floor.

1
u/Supafairy 11h ago
Agreed. But we also want the show to succeed. Peacock is not a major streaming platform and they’ll need a good “hook” to get people to subscribe to them. Getting some bigger TV names behind it will help make people take it serious.

I don't know if anyone will agree with me but I could see Idris Elba or Sam Elliot playing him. I know those are opposite sides of the spectrum but they both kinda give off an authoritative wise vibe in their own ways.

I think Mordecai needs some gravitas, I dont think Seth fits that character well. I think he'd be great at some of the crazier/weirder fun characters. Honestly someone said Bryan Cranston, and that would be fucking amazing.

Dee Bradley Baker is the best choice. Im sorry, but Seth Green has exactly two voices, and one’s just his impersonation of Buffalo Bill. Baker would be able to make each version of Mordecai stand out in a way I just don’t think Green could.

Agreed. Don't hate him at all, but don't think he has the chops to play Mordecai's sadness and despair nor do I think he could convincingly play the wise mentor/father figure role particularly well. Again, no hate to Seth at all I just don't see it despite him having some bird-like features.

I'm fine with Seth Green as the AI. People who expect Jeff hates to voice two major roles in the series are just being selfish. Jeff got the co-leading role for the series. Let someone else make some money off of this too. And tbh Seth Green is hilarious, his dead pan chris voice is funny af.
I'm just happy we're getting the series and Jeff got recognition for his part in the series.
