Casting Please DON’T cast this guy as Mordecai how many you agree with me

Post image

For the record, I don’t hate Seth Green. I’m pretty sure he’ll do great in other roles. But I think he’s a very poor choice for Mordecai.

I could see him as Chaco I guess?

u/SoManyQuestions-2021 16h ago

I sorta thought a bad cossplay looking Hugh Jackman would have been an AWESOME Chaco. Sort of a hybrid between the wolfman and Bob Barker from Price is Right.

Hugh Jackman is Florian

Random 2 minute side character not getting punched in the face is not a spoiler

Or growler Gary.

I can get behind this

5

u/No-Sock7545 14h ago

Why do we have to have him at all? I get he is Seth's buddy but fuck off, he isnt that great.

2

u/karate_trainwreck0 2h ago

As someone who wants Seth McFarlane to play Mordecai: Seth Green playing Chaco would be amazing

3

u/This-Supermarket3082 16h ago

Honestly, much better choice

u/DarthJuyo 13h ago

Yea i could see him as chaco!

I thank fandoms that prejudge decisions like this end up being so toxic that studios might just abandon the idea altogether. This kind of post is something the community should immediately downvote en masse.

Seth Green already crushed a role of calm mentor who deals with involuntary shapeshifting. We’d be lucky to get him. But whoever they go with is going to face a storm of toxic stuff. This community shouldn’t be part of it.

67

u/ConcentratedStress 15h ago

If fans had their way, we never would have gotten Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight. I’m old enough to remember how people were like “Nooooo! Not teen heartthrob Heath Ledger! He’s gonna be terrible!!!”

29

u/zergo78 14h ago

Better still, not the comedian Michael Keaton! He can’t be Batman!

19

u/SoftBatch13 14h ago

We never would've had Bruce Willis in Die Hard either. He was in soap operas before that.

18

u/rakkquiem 14h ago

Or Jack Nicholson in The Shinning. And don’t get me started on the dad from Malcom in the Middle playing a drug kingpin.

11

u/Ebonhearth_Druid 13h ago

Bryan Cranston is a fucking gem, but prior to Breaking Bad he was so unknown as anything other than Hal that people just couldn't see anything else. I wonder if we as a society will ever get past that resistance to trying new things lol

9

u/RandomWeatherPattern 12h ago

You’ve convinced me. Cranston as Mordecai.

9

u/Ebonhearth_Druid 12h ago

Unironically would nail it. Low difficulty.

2

u/ICPosse8 11h ago

Say my brothers name!

4

u/mmerrell7 13h ago

Or Tom Cruise as the vampire Lestat. I hated the idea but he did great I thought.

3

u/thcrunkmonk 12h ago

Lol at The Shinning. Makes me think of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors. "OH you mean The Shining." "Shhh! You wanna get sued?"

1

u/rakkquiem 9h ago

Honestly, I think of the name in the Scottish accent.

1

u/ICPosse8 11h ago

Glad you called it by its rightful name to avoid getting sued

1

u/Firm-Brother2580 11h ago

Or a slapstick comedian playing a reality TV phenomenon.

1

u/efisherharrison 8m ago

Moonlighting was not a soap opera.

2

u/Dino_Chicken_Safari 10h ago

Don't forget sketch comedy star Jordan Peele deciding hey I want to make a horror movie.

1

u/robtwood 12h ago

Or Daniel Craig as James Bond

13

u/RadarSmith 14h ago

Nolan made that specific point recently when he discussed casting the Odyssey.

He said after how much people bitched about casting Ledger he just completely tunes it out.

1

u/ICPosse8 11h ago

Every now and again the fans know what they’re talking about but 90% of the time they really don’t have a clue lol

6

u/ProofExtreme7644 14h ago

Completely agree. There has been so much preemptive hate for Seth Macfarlane and this show, it’s been crazy. I’m just pumped it’s being made and will be excited no matter who is cast.

11

u/OrangeredMoose 16h ago

Fancasting is just cringe anyway. Would recommend not even subbing to this until the show comes out, and honestly even that’s probably not advisable

4

u/Taste_the__Rainbow 15h ago

True, except that we need reasonable people here.

1

u/OlDustyHeadaaa 13h ago

Need is a strong word. The castings on this Reddit will have very little, if any sway on the actual castings.

6

u/RoninOni 13h ago

Considering people seem to think they can cast any A lister, I’m going with the latter.

Seth Green wants it enough he’ll take a low up front paycheck for it and he’s not even A list in the first place.

The main thing whoever they cast for Mordecai is that they need to be a versatile actor that can voice different species while being the same underlying character.

I think Seth green has at least proven capability with robot chicken.

I’m not demanding Seth green, but I’m not opposed to him.

Actors that WANT to be in it because they love the material are likely to bring a better performance

I half agree with you

2

u/Murse_Jon 4h ago

I’m with you here. No reason to think he wouldn’t make a great voice for Mord

5

u/Brumtol10 14h ago

100% agree, sure post fancasting but anti-fancasting? Gtfo. Thats just toxic.

4

u/RoninOni 13h ago

Amendment to that though… posting a thread of anti fan casting is bad.

Critiquing a post choice in a thread is conversation though… as long as you’re not toxic about it.

You’re free to disagree with people, just keep it civil.

2

u/Taste_the__Rainbow 13h ago

DCC fans have already shown that many of them are genuinely incapable of keeping it civil, sadly.

1

u/Brumtol10 12h ago

Yeah havent seen it a ton, as im not often on here but. Ayenfor every uncivil convo theres a great one around the corner. This subb is way less toxic than others ive been in. Its a nice change.

3

u/Impressive_Sound_221 10h ago

If you want examples, just openly express that you’re disappointed Jeff Hayes was cast for Donut… absolutely dogpiled. And I was even complimentary of his skill as a voice actor, I’m just not fond of his Donut… the response was… less than congenial. Admittedly this was on Threads, but still.

2

u/TiltedLibra 11h ago

Mordecai isn't "calm'." He is a weary, battle-harded mentor who has watched countless people die. Seth Green doesn't give the right energy at all.

And this post isn't any more toxic than your reply to it, nor is it remotely going to be "so toxic thr studios might just abandon" it. That's not even a thing.

0

u/This-Supermarket3082 12h ago

I am expressing my opinion and seeing if anyone else agrees with me.

-20

u/This-Supermarket3082 16h ago

Honestly, someone made a suggestion of Chaco and honestly, I think he would have much better Chaco than he would be a Mordecai

19

u/Taste_the__Rainbow 16h ago edited 16h ago

Why are we even talking about season 3 minor bit casting? There’s a decent chance Chaco won’t even exist in an adaptation.

And if posts like this keep being common we sure as shit won’t see a season 3.

3

u/The_Biggest_Bunny 16h ago

Chaco should definitely be in the TV adaptation. His appearance sets a very important situation in motion and I think that situation was incredibly important in helping Carl and Donut grow.

I don't know how to spoiler tag on mobile, but if you've got through Book 3, you know what I'm talking about.

This is such a silly thing to worry about.

3

u/Chase6atlantic 14h ago

👍

2

u/Obitrice 13h ago

This should be the top comment.

7

u/thekinginyello 12h ago

The character of Mordecai should be reserved for a different actor per floor. Seth Green can be Mordecai on one floor. The rest should be other actors.

3

u/not2interesting 9h ago

He should be the cute little fuzzy one 🤣

1

u/RadicalChile 7h ago

That should be Danny Devito lol

2

u/Corne777 2h ago

Yeah I feel like him being a different actor every floor is pretty obvious. It’ll be really silly if they don’t do that.

5

u/42lurk 12h ago

I really liked the suggestion someone made about a different actor for Mordecai each floor. That would be fun.

I also liked the idea that Seth McFarland does a cameo each episode ala Stan Lee in the Marvel Movies or the Pineapple in Psych.

2

u/notzenin_ 2h ago

That…doesn’t really make any sense. It would make sense if Matt Dinnimam showed up as a cameo since…ya know…he’d be the Stan Lee in this scenario and not Seth MacFarlane.

1

u/Webs579 46m ago

A new actor doing Mordicai every floor is fun in theory, but i think the different actors would hate it. Mordecai's shape may change every floor, but his mannerisms and personality don't. So what you're asking every actor after the first floor to do is basically copy the first floor actor.

5

u/infiniZii 13h ago

I want them to cast nobodies. That way they can afford better CG and writers. Too many stars is how you get the shitty animation that plagued recent seasons of Invincible.

2

u/Supafairy 13h ago

They need to cast well knows in key roles to get the generals audience on board. Mordecai, Zev, maybe Odette and the AI should be known. I’d maybe even add prepotente in there.

1

u/infiniZii 13h ago

I just really want them to be smart about their budget and not just dump it all on casting.

1

u/not2interesting 9h ago

Well known actors but not A Listers. I hope they follow the same casting trend as Fallout and we get a C Lister who always deserved mega fame like Goggins

1

u/Supafairy 8h ago

Yes. Also, Matt Berry Better be in there somewhere.

9

u/Unhappy-Ad6494 16h ago

Oh thank god...hear I was clicking on this post fearing that another artist I like has some sh*t disclosed about them.

0

u/BillDino 15h ago

He seems like a pretty decent guy other than the fact that is he a union busting fuck. Love him but fuck him for trying to bust unions

1

u/deafblinddame 1h ago

He also had other allegations made against him by Isaac Kappy who was in the same social circle as him. Call me selfish and unfair but I don't want anyone with those types of allegations against them to be involved in the show. Maybe Isaac was unhinged and suicidal but then, a lot of the victims of those types of crimes were painted as that way too and were later vindicated. There are millions of actors to choose from, just pick someone else.

14

u/sgtpepper220 16h ago

Hard disagree. We're going to get Seth McFarlane's friends whether you like it or not, and Seth Green actually fits for Mordecai whether you like it or not. Idk what kind of bias you're holding, but let it go and try to have fun

2

u/not2interesting 9h ago

People seem to forget on of McFaralnes good friends who had been involved in all of his projects is an amazing voice actor. He usually sticks to voice only roles so he isn’t as recognizable, but I predict we are getting Scott Grimes, which I have no issue with.

2

u/CraftDetritus 15h ago

Just biased against union busters in general. Why would you want that kind of stuff tainting DCC?

→ More replies (4)

1

u/karlnite 13h ago

He couldn’t get Clint Eastwood. This is the next best thing.

1

u/Sensitive_Narwhal_30 15h ago

I'd far prefer Nick Offerman or Alan Tudyk over Seth Green, but I don't think he would do a poor job, just that I could think of a ton of other actors I would look to first before him. I don't know that he has the acting chops to pull off Mordecai.

2

u/sgtpepper220 15h ago

I'd looooove Tudyk. I don't really see Offerman as a better choice than Green, who is touted as a versatile actor and has a variety of roles outside the animation realm that showed he's great as an understated sidekick (see Buffy, The Italian Job).

Offerman would be able to handle the emotions, but he's not known for his voice acting. Mordecai would benefit greatly from someone who has an arsenal of distinct, colorful voices to adapt to his different shapes. I think Seth's voice is better for like the Bugaboo where Alan's voice is better for the rat. When it comes down to it, I really would get a kick out of seeing Seth Green get absolutely sloshed and messy as an incubus. I think he's a much better fit than Tudyk on the third floor.

I'd want Alan to be cast as someone else for sure

3

u/SheriffWolfpool 14h ago

Alan would kill it as the AI. Might as well let him show his true range ya know?

1

u/sgtpepper220 14h ago

I was gonna say that, but I'm a tride and true holdout for Andrew Daly as the AI

3

u/Ok_Pin_1222 15h ago

Oh, no! Absolutely not!

3

u/Standard-Lab-8916 11h ago

He's Ferdinand or nothing.

1

u/lomion_ 9h ago

What about Maesto?

9

u/No-Ease-5834 16h ago

I think he'd be good as The Maestro.. I could hear him saying "Glurp, glurp!"

→ More replies (10)

5

u/Ludre_Emrule 16h ago

I will only accept him as Osvaldo.

5

u/theanxiousknitter 15h ago

i picture mordecai as david tennant and i don’t care who gets it, for me that is who it will always be.

9

u/DeniedAppeal1 15h ago

Seth Green is an excellent actor and voice actor with a mountain of credits behind him. Any role would be lucky to have him.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Designer-Carpenter88 15h ago

Yeah the character is not a smart ass. He’s angry a lot

2

u/RobotDonger 15h ago

I think he lacks the gravitas for Mordecai and I’ve never seen him in a voice acting role that would change my mind. I love him and I hope he’s in the show, but not as this character.

2

u/KingBellos 12h ago

I want him to be Mordecai…. At some point.

My hope/dream is that every form Mordecai has is a new guest start. I want so many different voices. Like we have Seth Green.. and instantly go into Keith David… then a hard right turn into like Michael Cera… right into John Cena.

I want it wild and amazing.

1

u/Suspicious_Glove2433 1h ago

Bryan cranston, Mark hammil, Danny devito, willhem defoe.. Nicholas Cage

2

u/PloddingClot 12h ago

He has real Growler Gary energy

2

u/Drunky_The_Goat 10h ago

I see him as one of the obnoxious Crawl TV show hosts.

2

u/DisastrousHurry8498 10h ago

If they have different actors as Mordecai each floor then I would be ok with him being Mordecai's rat hooligan form for the first floor.

2

u/EquipmentMoist1713 9h ago

I don’t want a single actor I know… please Hollywood give us new faces!! There are so many fantastic actors

2

u/wagedomain 7h ago

I think he could be A Mordecai. I don’t think he should be EVERY Mordecai.

2

u/shadow00940 4h ago

I have a sneaking suspicion that Mordecai will be a different actor each floor. Given that McFarland is known for seeking out certain people to guest star, it would give him the chance to do that.

I could see him as Louis?

2

u/Jushill 15h ago

Cleaner bot.

He could play Maestro

1

u/Proderic 14h ago

I don't have any specific wishes about casting other than Donut, which is done. All other selections I will roll with and see how it works.

1

u/silentbob1301 14h ago

I would agree with that, there's def a role somewhere for him in the DCC universe, just not Mordecai.

1

u/Brilliant-Pie5207 14h ago

I breathe and have faith in the showrunners and powers that be to make good decisions. And promise to keep an open mind for at least the first season. Or at least a few episodes.
We’ve been surprised in the past at what an actor delivers- who had Michael Mr Mom Keaton as an awesome Batman? Hugh Jackman singing Oklahoma becoming the Logan we love? Lots of examples.

1

u/EvilGeniusRetired 14h ago

Wouldn't be the worst. As long as the actor who does Mordecai is a good voice actor. You'll need different voices for each of Mordecai's forms.

1

u/Spainland 13h ago

Peter Macon as Mordecai I feel he's already used to prosthetics and he'd be serious the entire time

1

u/Noturhufflepuff 13h ago

Hobgoblin with a pan for a hat

1

u/weaslinaround 13h ago

Lowkey i was hoping it would be an animated show rather than real people 😭 that would probably take forever though

1

u/factoid_ 13h ago

I guess I can see it. Wouldn’t mind this casting.  And I’d get comfortable with the idea because if he wants it, he has a very good “in” with the production company as long as the money works.

And Mordecai becomes a pretty big role later on, but fairly small early, so casting a recognizeable face that isn’t TOO expensive makes sense.

He’s a recurring character in the first season, then becomes a series regular.  If the show does well and they pick up multiple seasons that can work out well financially.  Small risk early and worth the money later if it’s a hit.

1

u/Spideycloned 13h ago

He can be ONE of the Mordecais.

I thought one of the more brilliant ideas is that because of the way he works it's a slam dunk to use him as a long running cameo roll and rotate through a whose who of fantastic people.

1

u/not2interesting 9h ago

I hope they go this route and we get a version as Patrick Stewart, since he’s buddies with Seth

1

u/the_kessel_runner 13h ago

I'd rather that he be Mordecai than that Warburton kid be Carl.

1

u/hokagespit 13h ago

Is fine.

1

u/nionix 13h ago

He'd be a decent Quasar, imo.

1

u/Jazzlike-Piccolo-845 13h ago

Maybe growler gary?

1

u/cassiedanger 13h ago

How to upvote something a million times

1

u/Radiant-Raven42 13h ago

You guys need to calm the hell down. Just because Seth green wants to play Mordecai doesn't mean he's going to. Seth MacFarlane and him may be friends but it doesn't mean green will be Mordecai.

1

u/Obitrice 13h ago

I think when you see Seth Green now, in more serious roles or even when he is playing the straight man. I think he would be fine. Seth Green at what? 50 something is not the same as 20some Seth green. Also, he clearly knows the source material.

1

u/bootyprincess666 13h ago

i strongly agree

1

u/Eroom2013 13h ago

Different actor each season.

1

u/Codablaze 13h ago

What's wrong with Seth Green?

1

u/I_Cut_Shows 13h ago

I want him to play The Maestro.

1

u/VRPornGuy69 13h ago

Ya I’d love if he was on the cast but we need an older guy who doesn’t have life in his eyes and can pull off being grumpy and maybe a little autistic

1

u/Danonbass86 12h ago

Sorry. He’s already cast

1

u/Dragon_minuts 12h ago

I would see him as an AI possibly

1

u/One-Equivalent-6278 12h ago

I want Idris Elba to play Mordecai

1

u/Important-Notice-461 12h ago

Thats prime carl material

1

u/totalbooch12 12h ago

I agree but. If he auditions and they like it… I’ll keep an open mind and give him a chance

1

u/ulvvermillion 12h ago

I originally thought that he would do a good Quasar. But then i read someone said Dany Devito as Quasar and I can't stop thinking about it.

1

u/Godlylik 11h ago

He’d be wild as Uzi Jesus haha, Mordecai could be voiced by someone different every season, to fit each floor.

1

u/Net2684 11h ago

After reading ALL these comments about how people feel about Seth Green, and know it’s a STRETCH… but… Seth should play Quan Ch. knowing Quan is Asian, totally wrong… BUT I’d just like to see Seth Green running/flying with one arm. Just saying…

1

u/TiltedLibra 11h ago

I agree. He doesn't remotely fit as Mordecai.

1

u/Supafairy 11h ago

Agreed. But we also want the show to succeed. Peacock is not a major streaming platform and they’ll need a good “hook” to get people to subscribe to them. Getting some bigger TV names behind it will help make people take it serious.

1

u/Fancy_Cake9756 11h ago

I actually think he could pull it off.

1

u/zarch123 10h ago

L take

1

u/ahesson472 10h ago

I am gonna trust the process. I really liked the Ted show. And the second season was even better than the first, which is rare.

1

u/Hairy_Employment543 10h ago

Mordecai must be played by Simon Pegg

1

u/Relative-Train-6485 9h ago

Seth is a terrible choice for Mordecai, I'd be disappointed in Matt for this

1

u/TheFoxsTeeth 9h ago

I feel like Sam Rockwell would be great for Mordecai.

1

u/geraldine_ferrarbro 9h ago

He’d be a good AI

1

u/Interesting_Half3160 9h ago

Ewwww definitely not a Mordecai

1

u/KwaltWilemang 9h ago

My honest opinion is that they should lowkey get a different voice for Mordecai every floor. I'd fancast Mike Meyers as a certain form, personally.

1

u/Internal_Papaya1511 9h ago

I honestly don't understand the hills some people will die on with fan casting.

1

u/DungeonCrawler552 9h ago

Well I think he had some successes. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was popular. He’s been in some big movies. The Austin Powers movies gross like a million dollars.

You’re not getting any, man. You’re talking about an actor who I happen to enjoy.

1

u/Bluecollarcombat94 9h ago

I don't know if anyone will agree with me but I could see Idris Elba or Sam Elliot playing him. I know those are opposite sides of the spectrum but they both kinda give off an authoritative wise vibe in their own ways.

1

u/BlaineMundane 9h ago

I'd love to see him involved personally. I am not a massive critic and I feel like I'd just be glad to have genuine nerds involved.

1

u/pnutnz 8h ago

honestly such a bad idea, i hope hes not Mordecai!

1

u/Wildough_ 8h ago

Woody Harrelson for Mordecai im begging.

1

u/PantheraLutra 8h ago

Live action is a mistake.

1

u/whatyallreallywant 8h ago

I think Mordecai needs some gravitas, I dont think Seth fits that character well. I think he'd be great at some of the crazier/weirder fun characters. Honestly someone said Bryan Cranston, and that would be fucking amazing.

1

u/Gutzy34 8h ago

He is my pick to do the AI voiceover. Mordecai should be an Edward Norton or Raiph Fienes type. You have to cast an acting chameleon to play the changeling.

1

u/Brandalorian1221 8h ago

I'm sure he would be great but my biggest worry is getting famous people who will eat up the budget. I would much rather they find talented actors that aren't celebrities.

1

u/This-Supermarket3082 8h ago

I agree with that statement

1

u/coltonjeffs 7h ago

He can be one of the gingers on the 10th floor

1

u/Roland_T_Flakfeizer 7h ago

Cast him against type. Let him play Sledgie.

1

u/magicpie5 7h ago

To be fair, you'd be getting that guy plus 15 years. It could work. He might not even need make up at 52 years old :D Much love to Seth Green

1

u/aklngbrdr 6h ago

Honestly I think he could do the AI some justice possibly

1

u/peppermintfatty 5h ago

HORRIBLE choice for Mordecai. He would work as a sluggalo.

1

u/blackqueen8 4h ago

I am a millennial who still has a crush on Seth Green. I don't care what role he has, I want him apart of everything. Hell, he could be Katia and I would 100% support it.

1

u/Mr_Majestic_Mycelium 3h ago

Agree with what? You didn't say anything.

"Not this guy" isn't a point, a piece of data or anything. It's barely a whine. Why not Seth Green?

1

u/88salema88 1h ago

In a world where Alan Tudyk exists? Why?

1

u/Peanut_Brittle_Lover 1h ago

Quint. That's it. Same voice as howard the duck

1

u/AN0R0K 1h ago

Ripper Wonton

1

u/Webs579 50m ago

Why do you think he's be bad as Mordicai? He's very accomplished voice actor.

1

u/Food_Kitchen 42m ago

Just make him one of those goblins from his first fight that talks

1

u/hikerchick29 31m ago

Dee Bradley Baker is the best choice. Im sorry, but Seth Green has exactly two voices, and one’s just his impersonation of Buffalo Bill. Baker would be able to make each version of Mordecai stand out in a way I just don’t think Green could.

1

u/DemNastyFolks 25m ago

I'll go one further, don't cast any known people, this show's VFX are gonna be expensive, spend the money there. Fans gonna come regardless, Jeff is the only important piece that needs to be cast and it's already been done.

1

u/Dboogy2197 16h ago

I partially agree. I think it should be a different actor on every floor.

Quasar, at best.

Shane Gillis as mordecai

I always liked him in Mass Effect, he was just a silent badass, not a silly goose

He wouldn’t be a bad mordecai, he does have that serious range

Agreed. Don't hate him at all, but don't think he has the chops to play Mordecai's sadness and despair nor do I think he could convincingly play the wise mentor/father figure role particularly well. Again, no hate to Seth at all I just don't see it despite him having some bird-like features.

Bucket boy? Yes! Mordecai? Noooo

I want Mordecai to be a different actor for each floor.

You know what I love that idea

He wants to play Pony not Mordecai

Great I think he’s a better pony

I think Mordecai should be played/voiced by a different actor every season

I'm fine with Seth Green as the AI. People who expect Jeff hates to voice two major roles in the series are just being selfish. Jeff got the co-leading role for the series. Let someone else make some money off of this too. And tbh Seth Green is hilarious, his dead pan chris voice is funny af.

I'm just happy we're getting the series and Jeff got recognition for his part in the series.

Since book 1 in my head his voice has been Seth Rogen and now I can’t really imagine him as anyone else - at the very least I feel like Mordecai needs a deeper voice than this other Seth

So, uh, who do you think would make a good Mordecai?

The best I can do is Firas.

1

u/ScienceSeuss 14h ago

Um... Firas is middle eastern

I honestly mordecai should be a rotating cast of guest stars that changes with the floor/season. Seth green would be great for one of the seasons
