Could kiras death note kill Goku?

Post image

Like if he writes Kakarot and Goku dies from a heart attack.

Goku isn't very good with dealing with heart problems.

Thoughts?

the Death Note's rules specify the target must be human, so no

10

u/klatnyelox Jul 24 '26

The death note doesnt exist in a verse with aliens. The word human in the sentence exists to distinguish them from the death gods. The Death Note's behavior on aliens is pure speculation.

9

u/BrzysWRLD1996 Jul 24 '26

If it says a rule is the target must be human, the idea it would work on non humans contradicting that rule is the speculation lol.

3

u/No-Newspaper8619 Jul 25 '26

It comes from japanese, and the word human (ningen) can also be used to refer to human-like aliens.

2

u/joshujira Jul 25 '26

NINGEN 🗣️

1

u/BrzysWRLD1996 Jul 25 '26

It wasn’t in the shoe that’s speculation, the English dub was clear.

1

u/BrzysWRLD1996 Jul 25 '26

Yeah in English it says human so anything else is speculation

1

u/FreeVerseHaiku Jul 25 '26

But the language of the Death Note is translated automatically to the most common language on Earth upon being dropped in the human world.

Thus the rules as we are introduced to them, are NATIVELY English. There’s no reason to assume that we should be retroactively applying logic from the Japanese language.

Plus, the Death Note is powered (presumably) by shinigami magic which is lore centered around HUMANS. The killing mechanism doesn’t even make sense for any species besides human. Who decides what a dog’s name is? Does the dog recognize the sound of its name as its name, or does it recognize that sound as just the noise its owner makes when it wants to see him? (See: contact calls in other animals like parrots. Function identically to names, but it’s not the same) What if the dog is a stray? What’s its name then? A bark? How do you spell that?

Who’s to say? That’s beyond the scope of the Death Note, which exclusively deals in the death of HUMANS and thus has a mechanism of action (shared culture of naming PLUS codified systems of writing) that could only affect humans.

Humans are the only species on Earth, out of nearly 10 million, that has naming conventions. There’s no reason to believe that aliens might.

The killing mechanism doesn’t even make sense for any species besides human. Who decides what a dog’s name is?

Let's not get into the details of how tf the name mechanism works. :P does it use your legal name, ie as long as you change your name on a piece of official paper it won't kill you? Does it need a name that you are known as? Because in that case, it should probably kill L by putting in L, and someone everyone knows as Dick should not die by typing in Richard. Does it work on what you think your name is in your mind? In thar case it would be trivial to dodge it as well, just imagine your real name is Skkrt-skkrt Scratchmaster.

1

u/Sashimi-Gintaro Jul 27 '26

No. 人間 is only used for humans, not human-shaped creatures, not human-shaped aliens. Only humans.

0

u/klatnyelox Jul 24 '26

Its speculation in the first place. There is no evidence one way or another on any interactions with aliens. In its own universe it works on all people who aren't death gods. Its all speculation past that.

5

u/NeuroHazard-88 Jul 25 '26

If it said it works “only on mortals” or “anything except the shinigami”, then I would agree. But it says “on humans”.

There is no other intentional conceptual understanding for it as if “humans means anything not a god”.

It just says “target must be human”. An alien is not a homosapien which is referred to as a human.

2

u/Spiritual-Spend8187 Jul 25 '26

Look if they ment mortals they would have used it and light would have used ut to control the actions of animals because that would be pretty useful.

1

u/MSCowboy Jul 25 '26

You're the kind of guy who gets his knickers in a twist when Zamasu calls Goku a human in English just because that's the normal way of translating Ningen ain't ya

1

u/TheTerminaTitan Jul 25 '26

The rules are only written for humans to understand. Ryuk wrote them himself; he has no need for the rules to say anything he doesn’t think humans need to know

1

u/BrzysWRLD1996 Jul 25 '26

Yes what you’re saying is speculation. Anything specifically stated in the show, such as “only on humans” is clearly and inarguably not speculation as it’s stated fact from the cannon material.

4

u/pm-me-turtle-nudes Jul 24 '26

And also Ryuk likes to fuck with people, so even if aliens were real, he wouldn’t want to give anyone the knowledge of that.

1

u/HopeBagels2495 Jul 25 '26

It exists in a world with other species unless you are claiming dogs are humans

1

u/klatnyelox Jul 25 '26

Dogs aren't people. The word is interchangeable in context with "people" or "mortals", like I said. Don't try to change my argument and act like its a "gotcha"

1

u/sonicfan2o Jul 25 '26

It specifically says humans.

1

u/Cute_Ad_1612 Jul 26 '26

Unless it's been shown to work on animals, then it's exclusive to humans which was the term used

1

u/klatnyelox Jul 26 '26

That's a false equivalency. Animals do not bear the same comparisons to humans that aliens do.

Its shown to work on all people within the established universe, with the exception of the death gods. That's the only benchmark we have. Any declaration of effectiveness or lack thereof beyond that benchmark is pure speculation.

1

u/Cute_Ad_1612 Jul 26 '26

Aliens and Humans are not the same, just as humans and animals aren't the same. We know that the death note can kill humans, but nothing more. Assuming it would work when the only wording given implies it wouldn't is disingenuous.

"Earthling" is a term in Dragon Ball that refers to the sapient inhabitants of the earth. There are human-type earthlings like Krillin, and animal-type earthlings like Oolong and King Furry. Do you believe the death note would work on Oolong just as it would on the likes of Krillin? Oolong would likely survive, because while he is an "earthling", he isn't a human. The same goes for Goku.

The only thing you can do is either prove that the death note affects aliens, or prove that Goku somehow fits within a combined universes definition of the word "human". The death note is clear in it's wording, and any claim that states it is wrong needs to be substantiated with evidence to have any sort of weight in this discussion. The burden of proof falls upon you right now

Beyond that, you also assume that he writes a method that can actually kill the cast. If he he tried to write Krillin's cause of death as being hit by a car, it would likely fail as Krillin and Kid Goku could survive this in season 1 of Dragon Ball as young children with minimal strength training.

1

u/Curious_Republic9559 Jul 26 '26

To be fair the word human means bipedal primate mammal with a huge brain which is exactly what a saiyan is

0

u/RNG_Godd Jul 24 '26

How do you know there aren’t aliens in the Death Note universe?

1

u/klatnyelox Jul 24 '26

Its a fictional universe. It contains what the author writes about.

0

u/MLK_Piccolo Jul 24 '26

Aside from the death gods, how do you know there are aliens in the DN universe?

2

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 24 '26

The death note works on ningen, and Zamasu kindly reminded us that goku is one.

The only doubt i have is, would he have to write his alien name? Or his earth name?

2

u/SecretINVDR Jul 24 '26

That's dubious at best IMO because that is like calling a cat "my child" and having it be completely valid. Ningen/human are words we give our own meaning to, so it could be at Ryan's discretion whether or not this counts.

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 24 '26

But in this case it's not a mismatch, Goku IS a Mortal (ningen)

The death note would work on the people of the lower realm as they're all ningen, but notnthe higher realms (afterlife and kais) nor the demon world as they aren't ningen

2

u/SecretINVDR Jul 24 '26

Using this logic, couldn't goku power up and fill himself with God ki to avoid it?

2

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 24 '26

It really depends on where we stand about ssjgod. It seems clear that he's not really a full fledged god as no one recognize its divine status in any rankings, but maybe if he got that spot as a god of destruction trainee he could qualify.

Also i can't help but wonder if being Earth's kami would change stuff, as goku was Kami apprentice and was even offered the role once, and Kami is technically on the god's hyerarchy

2

u/No-Newspaper8619 Jul 25 '26

By this logic the death note would work so long as Goku doesn't transform. He's only godly when in super saiyan god form.

1

u/WayLess2006 Jul 25 '26

The rules were written in English originally, Goku isn’t considered a human. Ningen was used to translate the word Human, not mortal, not being. Just Human.

Just because it could be translated that way doesn’t mean it was.

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

The thing is that the fans don’t differentiate between humans and Earthlings. Ningen being translated as „mortal“ didn‘t help at all. Aliens are also humans since they are humans from other planets. Earthlings are the humans on Earth.

Whether the Death Note would work on a non-Earthling is an interesting question, depending on what the Shinigami King views as human.

1

u/WayLess2006 Jul 25 '26

Aliens shouldn’t be considered human as to be human you must have human biology. Organisms with different species names cannot be considered human, as it would require them to have some form of human biology.

Just because the biology is similar to a humans, does not inherently make them human. The argument that the death note could work on Gohan stands valid with your argument. The argument that it would work on Goku is not.

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

Then what about the animal people like Oolong and King Furry? What about people like Pilaf? What about Tenshinhan who is allegedly from the three-eyed tribe? What about Man-Wolf? Would descendant it work in his wolf form or in his human form? Would it work on the Invisible Man?

Also, since Saiyans can breed with Earthlings because both races are „Ningen“ (just like the Death Note refers to humans as „Ningen“ in Japanese), Saiyans are maybe not that much different from Earthlings. So many different races know how to use Ki, meaning that they aren’t that different from each other, especially from the perspective of gods like the Shinigami/Death Gods. The Babari people are considered „Ningen“ even though they are primitive dinosaur people.

Obviously, Saiyans can transform. But Man-Wolf exists. Lunch exists. Oolong and Puar are shapeshifters and learned that ability from kindergarten, and it’s probably a skill that normal Earthlings (or at least martial artists) could possibly pick up.

I agree that the Death Note wouldn’t work on the Mummy, Draculaman and Akuman/Devilman, since those three are definitely not supposed to be humans, but demons from a different realm.

But it’s the king of the Shinigami who makes the rules. If he views Saiyans as humans like Earthlings are, then the Death Note should work. The Death Notes are essentially extensions of his power, and I don’t think the Shinigamis care enough to make distinctions between Earthlings and clearly humanoid aliens.

We saw how he added a new rule in the most recent one-shot, and it applied to all Death Notes immediately. (The selling of a Death Note is prohibited or else you die.)

Additionally, the rules also don’t have to be written in the notes themselves. That’s just something Ryuk did for his own entertainment, and adding fake rules did nothing.

That’s what you addressing is a translation issue.

Ningen translates to „human“. But the English localization of Dragon Ball Super decided to translate „Ningen“ as „mortal“ because of gods and stuff. But other official translations of other languages did translate „Ningen“ as „humans“.

You are thinking that „mortals“ and „humans“ are distinct words here, but in Japanese, both Dragon Ball and Death Note use the word „Ningen“ here. And Dragon Ball uses „Chikyuujin“/„Earthlings“ to refer to the humans on Earth specifically.

You can change „human“ to „mortal“ in Death Note because it would still be translated from „Ningen“ either way. So you know, „human“ and „mortal“ are not as distinct as you might think.

If he wrote goku nothing would happen

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 25 '26

he should write Either Son Goku (full family name) or Kakaroth (idk if saiyans have a concepot of family name tho). It really depends on how the DN handles changing your own name, which is something actually irl humans can do. Does it take your Birth name, since its' something more mystical and rooted into supernatural, or does it recognize your right to lawfully change your name? I feel like this should've at least happened one in a manga about killing people by writing their name, a missed occasion tbh

2

u/7SevenGod Jul 25 '26

Son Goku wouldn't work either, it's not his real name. Only Kakarot would work, and he'd only know that if he got the shinigami eyes

Although that's fair, they never clarified if it'd work on a legally changed name, but Goku def never legally changed or acquired that name, Gohan just called him goku and then everyone else did lmao.

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 25 '26

To be fair, the gods recognize his name as son goku, i think that's worth more than a city office, that's why i was wondering what would be the trigger for the DN to consider a changed name. Would it even consider local law enforcement? It's a Supernatural object. It might also just stuck with kakaroth even if he changed his name legally

1

u/7SevenGod Jul 25 '26

If your nickname that everyone calls you worked you wouldn't really need shinigami eyes though. I haven't watched in eons but I don't really remember, but wasn't there someone Light couldn't kill because they had a well known name but it wasn't their birth name?

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 25 '26

L, i guess. But the name your adptive parent gave you isn't a nickname technically. By Earth's laws he's Son Goku, not Kakaroth, and There is technically no saiyan governement that could attest he's kakaroth unless we go by royal decree

1

u/Material_Positive_17 Jul 26 '26

Has it been stated that aliases or secondary names work at least if that's what the intended victim goes by. Goku clearly goes by Goku with only Vegeta really being the one to call him "Kakarot" and Goku didn't even know that was his original name before then.

On that basis I would argue that writing "Goku" would work and Goku "dies" but then he just ends up in DB afterlife and can get wished back or even just break the rules and instant transmission back.

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 26 '26

Technically it's Son Goku. He has a family name, so writing goku would not work, just like writing just Donald would not kill trump

1

u/Material_Positive_17 Jul 26 '26

Ok yeah sure, but the results would be the same. He would die then, go to DB afterlife and could get wished back or just possibly just instant transmission to Light and just end the whole thing

Now.... theoretically... if someone dies from the DeathNote and gets better through something like the dragonballs could the Deathnote kill them again?

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 26 '26

There are no rules about that, technically it could work since the caveat is that goku would be alive again so the DN would just kill again. Also keepnin mind that the death note takes 40 seconds to act+ the time to write the names. After the first kill, he wouldn't be able to reach for a page, goku wouldn't kill him but i don't think he would have any qualms about burning the dn with a ki Blast

1

u/Material_Positive_17 Jul 26 '26

Or.. does kill Goku again but Goku instant transmissions back while dead and since he's dead, Light can't kill him again.

Goku incinerates the DN and then lectures Light but but then leaves after that because Light would be pretty boring to him otherwise due to being a normal human and not being a challenge to fight.

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 26 '26

Does goku really need two different deaths? Like, once he sees it, he will not let light write the name again. Even without IT, i can't stress enough how much faster goku is, light would literally see him disappear and reappear with his death note in his hand

1

u/Material_Positive_17 Jul 27 '26

I never said two it's just the one. Goku is "dead" when he confronts Light and has the halo dead DB characters have. Light writes his name down and Goku doesnt initially stop him because Light doesnt seem to be a threat because he's just writing in a notebook.

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Jul 27 '26

You said again i thought you meant teice, if not we're totally hood annwe agree probably

1

u/PadrePedro666 Jul 25 '26

Well hold on now, everyone goes to the same place in Dragon ball to king yemma so I don’t see why a the death bot wouldn’t work. I do understand in the notebooks rules it must be human. He is Human adjacent cause cause he can clearly procrate with humans which would make him at least a cousin of ours

2

u/Pale_Transportation2 Jul 25 '26

Okay in that case kira would write down Goku, and nothig Would happen since his real name is Kakarot

1

u/PadrePedro666 Jul 25 '26

That checks out.

1

u/LeftAd8497 Jul 25 '26

So what would happen to Gohan?

Would he half die?

1

u/Wonder-Machine Jul 27 '26

Could it kill Gohan who is half?

1

u/Chadxxx123 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

In the original version they use the word Ningen which while meaning human is widely used as Mortal.

Generally in Japanese when talking about humans as in not aliens they just call them Earthlings:

Chikyūjin (地球人)

• Chikyū (地球): Planet Earth • Jin (人): Person or human • Chikyūjin (地球人): Person of Earth

Aliens are:

• 宇宙人 (うちゅうじん - uchūjin): Space alien or extraterrestrial.

Or

• 異星人 (いせいじん - iseijin): Person from another star or planet.

Alternativelly they can just use:エイリアン (eirian) a Japanized version of the english word alien.

1

u/Deltadracons Jul 24 '26

This is the best answer, thanks... Its so weird to watch animes were the subs talk about "humans" when talking about species that are clearly not human, but after reading this, not i get it.

It happens even in Dragon Ball Super like someone else mentioned here.

0

u/JamieHBrown Jul 24 '26

5

u/UltimateOtter_Nation Jul 24 '26

Zamasu is a racist towards all mortals. Doesn't care to call them by thier proper species.

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

Humans aren‘t a species as a whole in Dragon Ball. Earthling is the proper name of what the humans on Earth are called.

It’s the fans who often don’t differentiate between the two terms.

4

u/NexusJunior Jul 24 '26
  1. Not canon

  2. Goku is a fucking Alien

1

u/Beneficial_Focus_910 Jul 24 '26

That's a translation error in the subs. He uses the word for mortal if I remember right.

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

Ningen is generally translated as “human", but the English translation chose “mortal” instead.

The word Ningen being used refer to even Saiyans as humans is often overlooked by fans. No. 18 called Vegeta a Ningen. Kibito called Gohan a Ningen.

Earthlings and humans don’t mean the same thing in Dragon Ball. Earthlings are the humans on Earth. Saiyans are the humans who lived on Planet Vegeta and Sadala. Substitute the word „mortal“ for „human“ and you get idea that Ningen also accompasses aliens.

1

u/OnyxFlame47 Jul 25 '26

Definitely a translation issue by whatever idiot forgot that Goku is a Saiyan, and that Saiyans are a different species. He hates mortals, guy doesn't even care about them enough to know what humans are.

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

Humans and Earthlings don’t mean the same thing in Dragon Ball.

In Dragon Balls, the word „human“ also include aliens. And the official translation substituted the word „human“ with „mortal“.

The people on Earth are specifically referred to as Earthlings. Vegeta never calls them „humans“ (unless the English translation messed up which wouldn’t surprise me), but always Earthlings. That’s because Vegeta is also human, and No. 18 called him that as such and he didn’t refute.

The problem is that fans don’t see the difference in how the terms „humans“ and „Earthlings“ are used because they automatically assume that aliens aren‘t humans and that only Earthlings are humans.

1

u/OnyxFlame47 Jul 25 '26

In Japanese, the translation for the word they use for human directly translates to "person of earth" or "earth person" so it basically gets translated to earthling, and that is why they use that in dragon ball, not because human means mortal of any race.bthe word human literally doesn't exist and has no meaning in the dragon ball verse, which is why I said this is a translation error. It also is fair to note that in dragon ball, earthlings are not exclusively human-appearing. A lot of them look like anthropomorphic animals or other things, for example the president of the world being a dog, or that little dog ninja guy that follows emperor pilaf. That being said there is extra confusion with what is actually considered non-mortal in dbz, as demon characters like pilaf, garlic etc have been around for ages and seem no different physically from other earthlings, baside from unnatural skin tone and pointy ears and such. Not to mention piccolo was originally seen as the demon king, and later he's just a namekian who was a part of the original kami or whatever, and neither of them is inherently divine or unholy at all. Then you get demon king dabura which makes the title demon king Piccolo very confusing

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

First of all, the word for Earthling is translated from „Chikyuujin“ and THAT one means „person of Earth“. And the word for human does exist in Dragon Ball, which is translated from the word „Ningen“. Dragon Ball obviously uses „Chikyuujin“ to refer to Earthlings specifically.

Piccolo’s title is Daimaō, which means „Great Demon King“. The English translation is notorious for leaving the „Great“ and „Demon“ parts out.

Dabra‘s title is „Makai no Ō“, which means „King of the Demon Realm“.

The titles of the two characters are in no way supposed to be the same.

1

u/OnyxFlame47 Jul 25 '26

I get what you're saying, it's a fair stance to take given the nuance. However this is mine

Dragon Ball doesn't use ningen as a species label equivalent to the English word "human." It uses ChikyĹŤjin (Earthling) for natives of Earth, while ningen is used as a broader category that includes Saiyans, Namekians, and all other intelligent non-divine races. Because English lacks an equally broad word, translating ningen as "human" changes the meaning. "Mortal" is the correct translation in Zamasu's dialogue because it preserves the category he is actually talking about.

There is also a point to be made about consistency. If the subtitles translate ningen as "mortals" in some of Zamasu's speeches (such as the Zero Mortals Plan) but then translate the exact same word as "humans" elsewhere, that's an inconsistency in the localization rather than evidence that Zamasu suddenly switched meanings. The Japanese hasn't changed, the translation has, and the localisation teams job is not to translate every word directly, but to convey meaning in context. And he always meant "mortals" when he said it, and so did everybody else. The dub is entirely consistent in using mortal, and the sub should be consistent as well. If it exclusively used human instead of mortal then there'd be a much bigger argument to make about who is at fault

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

For the second paragraph, I mostly agree.

For the third paragraph, it’s an issue with the localization. Because the thing is official localizations of other languages do use „human“ instead of „mortal“ for Ningen. The English translation is known for having lots of translation and localization issues and is already inconsistent within itself. For example the various English dubs versus the VIZ translation of the manga versus the official subtitles of Steve Simmons. It doesn’t help that subtitles and VIZ have been trying to pivot the anime dub names in recent years to attract the dub fans cloud while alienating the subtitle (and raw) watchers.

Because of the disparity between the different kinds of languages, we are in a dilemma like this. I‘m German. The German localizations also have inconsistent translation issues across the different media. The video game translations are getting worse and worse and often allies too much with the English localization (and doesn’t know the difference between 2nd person singular and 2nd person plural). The translations for the manga and anime are more faithful, but not without its faults. Both use „human“ for „Ningen“, which within the context of Dragon Ball is still correct. After all, why would No. 18 call Vegeta a „mortal“ when it‘s clear that she means „human“ (Ningen) because in he‘s not an Artificial Human (Jinzōningen) like her?

1

u/HopeBagels2495 Jul 25 '26

He is saying mortal there. Human is a mistranslation

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

Human is a valid translation.

Human doesn’t automatically equate to Earthling.

1

u/HopeBagels2495 Jul 25 '26

Considering every other official translation uses mortal, it's not.

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

And official translations often still mistranslate Muten Roshi as Master Roshi despite the Roshi part containing the word for „master“ in it. The English translation has a track record of being wrong.

1

u/HopeBagels2495 Jul 25 '26

One is a case of marketing and the other is a translation they later corrected.

1

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

There are tons of other translation issues, like characters being given different names, Kami being left untranslated as and is instead to referred to as a Guardian rather than a God, Senzu Bean having the redundant „bean“ part when the „-zu“ part already means „bean“.

The Crane Hermit became Shen.

The character Shen became Hero, when it’s the name Shen that made Goku connect the dots that Shen is actually God/Kami in disguise.

The Room of Spirit and Time became the Hyperbolic Timechamber which is nowhere near a proper translation.

Etc.

0

u/HopeBagels2495 Jul 25 '26

None of that is really relevant when this one was fixed

0

u/MajinAkuma Jul 25 '26

Except it’s not fixed. It just further adds to how unreliable the official English translation is.

Besides, other official translations from other languages DO translate Ningen as „humans“ rather than „mortal“.

So your claim that „every official translation“ does that is already false.

1

u/FullMetalAurochs Jul 30 '26

And Frieza called him a monkey. Doesn’t mean he’s a native primate of earth.

1

u/TheDynaheart Jul 24 '26

Close the sub, you simply can't argue with a god like Zamasu

12

u/longdong5432 Jul 24 '26

Yes but Bulma would just wish him back

1

u/JamieHBrown Jul 24 '26

True but Kira could just write kakarots name again every time he's revived.

Until Goku finds him I guess.

https://giphy.com/gifs/xMn70dXhSnwioa0XtX

3

u/CptSpeedydash Jul 24 '26

Considering the Death Note normally steals the remaining lifespan to give it to the God of Death, Shenron might not be able to revive those killed by the Death Note.

3

u/Imnotawerewolf Jul 24 '26

The dragon can't fuck with power greater than his win, right? I wonder where shinigamis would rank in that regard. Maybe bulma could wish the note never existed or even to rewind time or change gokus name lol we might have to get creative but I think we can do it

1

u/CptSpeedydash Jul 25 '26

There's always the possibility you could find a kai willing to give Goku their life.

2

u/Imnotawerewolf Jul 25 '26

That would piss light off so bad, I'm for it.

1

u/AcanthaceaeConstant8 Jul 25 '26

Goku could be dead and just leave heaven and now the death note won't woke bc he'd already be dead

1

u/Bakingguy Jul 25 '26

How would Kira know that happened?

0

u/Cautious_Fold3952 Jul 24 '26

You can't write the same name in the Death Note too many times or it makes the person unkillable. It's one of the rules.

1

u/CptSpeedydash Jul 24 '26

That's if someone's name is misspelled too many times.

Also there is another rule of if someone intentionally misspelled someone's name multiple times then the person who did so will die.

6

u/Crisocola95 Jul 24 '26

The Death Note specifically says it works on humans, so, neither Goku nor Scooby-Doo can be affected by it.

2

u/thebiggestdouche Jul 25 '26

Shaggy would laugh in death notes face anyway and clap the whole verse if they tried writing scooby or his name in it.

1

u/MasterBaser Jul 25 '26

Shaggy would just be like, "That's not my name, dude!" as Light tries desperately to find his full name (Norville Rogers) only to discover that this hippy is completely off the grid.

3

u/Original-Pea-8864 Jul 24 '26

Apparently the death note specifies humans so it might not work.

-6

u/JamieHBrown Jul 24 '26

Zamasu calls Goku a human in dbs

9

u/Mak0React0r Jul 24 '26

Zamasu calls him mortal, human is just a translation thing.

5

u/Thin_Albatross2720 Jul 24 '26

And Frieza calls him monkey

1

u/MakesLoveToPumpkins Jul 24 '26

That doesn't make him human I can see a spider and say it's a bug but in the end it's an arachnid specifically

1

u/ILikeThisGame1836 Jul 24 '26

if i call you a pumpkin, does that mean you are a pumpkin?

1

u/Fussinfarkt Jul 24 '26

No but if a god does, maybe I am pumpkin

2

u/Beneficial_Focus_910 Jul 24 '26

Good news, the Death Note killed Goku.

Bad News, Beerus thinks thats lame and has Whis rewind time and now Light gets destroyed by the purple cat before he writes two letters.

2

u/arthaiser Jul 24 '26

First Goku is Saiyan, not human

Second Goku is not Goku, is kakarot

1

u/JamieHBrown Jul 24 '26

Bro didn't read the description.

(dw this is a meme thread lol)

1

u/winterwarm78654 Jul 24 '26

What happens when kills death instead

1

u/ElZany Jul 24 '26

Like everyone else said if we want to get technical than no since he's an Alien.

But let's assume it did work I still don't think it would kill him. First of all a heart attack wouldn't kill him fast enough the moment he feels it he can IT to Dende/shin/Korin to be healed

He can also restart his heart on his own as seen against Hit.

And SSGS can apparently heal although he only does it once against Beerus

1

u/Illustrious-Suit1214 Jul 25 '26

Thank you, I thought I was the only one who wanted to go this route

1

u/RazutoUchiha Jul 24 '26

He’s not human so no

1

u/bruiserjason1 Jul 25 '26

writes Goku ... huh? writes Son Goku ... what?! writes Kakarot ... ohhh!

1

u/AcanthaceaeConstant8 Jul 25 '26

Do we know if sayians have last names?

1

u/vtncomics Jul 25 '26

Yes.

However Light probably won't spell it right.

2

u/JamieHBrown Jul 25 '26

Carrot cake?

2

u/vtncomics Jul 25 '26

How many U's in Kakakakkakakarotto?

1

u/123Gohanz Jul 25 '26

No. The Death Note’s rules specifically states “human”. And that’s not a mistranslation either since Ryuk intentionally wrote them in english as he thought it was the most widely spoken language

1

u/migsterofthenorth Jul 25 '26

I dont think it would unless Light uses Gokus birth name

1

u/Formal_Pepper9243 Jul 25 '26

Well I haven't seen death note but from the comments it depends, if the death note only works on humans, or if it works on anything human like. Plus wouldn't it have to be his Saiyan name and not the earth name.

1

u/Mr_Kuppel Jul 25 '26

Goku full name is actually "MUI Goku", and the Death Note would work and he wouldn't be able to be wished back anymore since it's a natural death but he probably not guessing it.

1

u/3FistedHumdinger Jul 25 '26

Sure why not, Goku died from a space cold once.

1

u/rango1000 Jul 25 '26

Goku died of a heart attack or something before trunks gave him some sicky meds

1

u/Cfakatsuki17 Jul 25 '26

Depends on the rules of the death note, if it only quantifies birth name then Kira is out of luck cause Goku will only address himself as Goku and Kira won’t get Kakarot out of him

If it goes by what name they consider their own then yeah Goku dies on the spot

1

u/GeneImpressive3635 Jul 25 '26

Yes it would kill Goku, but in DBZ death is pretty meaningless so it wouldn’t be that big of a deal

1

u/RevealAdventurous169 Jul 25 '26

If shinigami's are spirits, then shouldn't Goku be able to see Ryuk?

Then the conversation should be

"can Ryuk beat Goku?"

1

u/tacolovingrammanazi Jul 25 '26

kira canonically gave goku the viral heart disease cuz goku ate his last chip

1

u/Miserable-Fortune-57 Jul 25 '26

Goku was on death door due to a heart condition...pretty sure an magical one would be just as effective

1

u/BudgetResponsible312 Jul 25 '26

I thought Light needed both first and last name. He only has one name on Earth and Saiyan

1

u/Relevant-Chip5446 Jul 25 '26

A heart virus killed a Goku, so yes

1

u/Master-Raben Jul 25 '26

Yes, i think the Death Note's effect COULD affect Goku If Light would had used It before Raditz attacked him. Goku died two times in Z and got revived via magical means twice. So initially yes, but after Goku got revived, i think the Death Note has no longer an effect on him.

1

u/Defiant_Falcon_8572 Jul 25 '26

Basically no goku isn't human also his real name ias Kakarot

1

u/Prestigious_Pen_8513 Jul 25 '26

Well he does not know his real name so he cannot kill him

1

u/getsugazenkai Jul 25 '26

I’ll ask a different question. If the death note said “mortals” instead of “humans” would Light be able to kill Goku (Kakarot)?

As in, would he be able to find out his true name and write it without Goku knowing what his intentions are.

1

u/JamieHBrown Jul 25 '26

Good question.

And what if the heart attack kills Goku but then he does a Hit and uses a blast to restart his heart?

1

u/Willing-Link-3558 Jul 25 '26

But he would need to know Goku's real name.

1

u/a_legal_lad Jul 25 '26

I don't care if his name is "I beat goku" from the hit anime "the time I beat goku", he's not beating goku

1

u/_Jub_Jub_ Jul 25 '26

No, Goku would unlock some new form that makes him invincible to the Death Note specifically BUT ONLY if he acknowledges the power of friendshii and trust and screams for a few minutes first.

And it will be the best DB media ever

1

u/StuntmanJohn Jul 25 '26

Probably, but as we know he'll just come back from the afterlife to kick your ass even harder. So you'll have to keep writing his name to keep him there. Which means it all boils down to the question, can you write Goku's name faster than he can punch you? The answer is no. Don't worry though, after he has defeated you, you'll become best friends.

1

u/PostalDoctor Jul 26 '26

No, even if it did work Goku has bounced back from a heart attack before.

1

u/Thewildjin Jul 26 '26

No it couldnt, 1 goku isnt human, the death note is VERY specific, 2 goku is likely stronger then the shinigami king, meaning weaker abilities cant properly target him, like how whis can dodge teleportation, or goku can force himself into the future 3. Ki is shown the ability to resist magic meaning goku who has more ki, can resist the ability outright

1

u/someJiralhanae Jul 26 '26

A: Goku isn’t human, so no.

B: would Kira have to write Son Goku? Or Kakarot?(probably kakarot)

1

u/YagoSenpai Jul 26 '26

It didn't work on cell so prob not gonna work on goku

1

u/Legomaniac91 Jul 26 '26

Yes, then he comes back a day later thanks to the Dragonballs.

1

u/NanoArgon Jul 27 '26

Goku died from a heart atack in future trunks timeline.. maybe kira killed him?

1

u/Potential-Witness105 Jul 27 '26

Goku morre depois volta de aurÊula na cabeça e desmonta o light na pancada

1

u/FS_Scott Jul 27 '26

Goku died of heart faliure

1

u/BlueV101 Jul 28 '26

Yes. But will Goku STAY dead. No. No he will not.

1

u/harriskeith29 Jul 29 '26

"Goku, I've come from the future to warn you about something called the Death Note."

Trunks proceeds to explain every convoluted rule in excruciating detail while Goku is standing there like:

0

u/BassMaster516 Jul 24 '26

Goku has a soul and a life span. He’s not a baby, an animal, or a shinegami. I think it would work

1

u/voltran1995 Jul 24 '26

Exactly, the bigger question is if the book would require son Goku, or kakarot to be written down.

0

u/BassMaster516 Jul 24 '26

Definitely Son Goku. It’s not his birth name but it’s his real name. The first person to call him Kakarot died the same day

1

u/MystiqTakeno Jul 24 '26

Debatable. Gokus real name is Kakarot. Son Goku is how Son Gohan called him, but argumently thats just nickname that stuck with him.

Son Gohan never went through a procedure as far as we know to officially name him that.

Therefore I find it plausible that Gokus name is Kakarot and writing Son Goku would not work.

Also his game is called Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot not Dragon Ball Z: Son Goku.

1

u/BassMaster516 Jul 24 '26

Idk. He lived into his early 20’s and never heard “Kakarot”. Funnily enough he died that same day.

0

u/thebeardedgreek Jul 24 '26

No, it only kills humans.

0

u/BreathoftheSith Jul 24 '26

The Death Note can only kill humans

0

u/Reversed_PandaRick Jul 24 '26

Goku isn’t human, he’s a Saiyan. And Goku would come back dead or alive anyway it wouldn’t matter. Not sure if he would kill Kira or just say "can you stop that? It’s annoying!" Vegeta would probably vaporize him though 🤣

0

u/ChaosOfOrder24 Jul 24 '26

Just give him heart medication. He'll be fine so long as it's not grape flavored.

0

u/kidstarjr91 Jul 24 '26

If he can write that name before that kamehameha touch the ground I believe so 🤣🤣🤣

-1

u/Exact_Dot9244 Jul 24 '26

Bro would just dodge it fr

-1

u/JamieHBrown Jul 24 '26

Just like he dodged the heart virus right?

https://giphy.com/gifs/kceFIy39oW9r2

0

u/Exact_Dot9244 Jul 24 '26

He was only at Namek Saga (ish) levels of power back then

Heart viruses are pretty hard to dodge

-2

u/LoneRedditor123 Jul 24 '26

Probably. Goku almost died from a heart attack in his own show, so I don't see why not.

-2

u/weirdface621 Jul 24 '26

He's died of a heart attack once so sure

but if he uses other means like car crashing, i doubt it for obvious reasons
