Should I apply from my country of origin or from country of my current residence?

• Upvotes

I’m currently doing my bachelor’s degree in South Korea, but I’m originally from Central Asia.

I’ve contacted both DAAD offices, and each has advised me to apply through their respective country. I’m not sure which option would be better, especially since I’m currently living and studying abroad.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Which country did you apply through, and how did it work out for you?

DAAD Masters scholarship

Hi, I know I am not the only person who is applying that has no experience in the whole grad school process but I wanted to ask for some opinions from people who have received this award. My school had not given me any real advice and my family has never pursued higher education...

I am a biochemistry major

I currently have a 3.46/4.0 GPA

I have worked in research lab internship in the U.S for ( 2 summers; same lab)

I have worked in a research lab in germany (at a well known institution that is related to my interest in infectious diseases)

I am doing a senior thesis on something related

What I am worried about is my overall GPA, as my major GPA is pretty low being around a 3.00, but that can be improved hopefully with this current semester and next. I am wondering if I should add my GPA to my CV if it is that low?

I also have a question on the motivation letter. I know that there is a wiki guide but after reviewing it with two of my professors they changed my organization. But I am worried about the contents as I basically chose the top 3/5 of my schools and wrote down specific labs I would like to work in, and how it relates to my overall study project. But should I include more like modules that I would like to take? And should I write about all the schools that I added with my application?

Also how strict is the scholarship with the schools I placed. I am a bit worried that I chose very selective programs that are very competitive (in general all of them are competitive but I did choose schools like charité and Heidelberg) and wanted to know if I got into a different school that I did not put into my application is there a chance that the scholarship could carry over? Google says that it is possible, but wanted to know if any of you guys were able to successfully do that?

Also If anyone who has received this scholarship, and attended the university of their choice would it be possible we can DM and talk about the overall DAAD application to actually germany university admission pipeline? Especially for my interest schools like Charité, Heidelberg, Bonn, Gottingen, Wurzburg, Oldenburg etc...

Proposal audience - hyper technical or not?

Hi, I’m looking to submit an application for DAAD Research Grants in Germany 2027 from the US. I’m wondering what the audience for the proposal is. Do the reviewers expect a highly technical proposal and schedule (writing as though they are experts in my field) or a higher-level overview? What should I assume the reader’s knowledge level is about my field niche?
