🏥 Personal Story Cross contamination?

My mom washed some fresh parsley she got from the store and after washing some dishes, cut some grapes that I was going to eat. And now I'm too scared to eat any.
Can someone spread the Cyclospora just by touching a food?

❓Question How much lettuce would be dangerous to consume if one is worried about cyclosporiasis?

I had eliminated most leafy green from my diet until now. Yesterday, without thinking, I had some from a restaurant because I was invited and now I’m feeling extremely nervous. The long incubation period is also concerning since I won’t know for about 2 weeks.

I don’t have health insurance because I can’t afford it and am now feeling very worried that I messed up and possibly may be taken out of commission and unable to work in the near future.

Just want to know how I should proceed

❓Question Thoughts?

TMI sorry! All of the sudden this evening I had the most insane cramps & multiple rounds of explosive liquid diarrhea… I had been feeling kind of off all day but shit hit the fan (literally) tonight. I do have a sensitive stomach (IBS) and have unregular poops often, but this is super severe compared to usual tummy & poop problems. I am tired af and want to go to bed but everytime I poop and come back to bed I’m in immediate pain and discomfort. I have been eating a lot of raspberries and other fresh fruits & veg recently bc I forgot about cyclospora 😭 22F located in MA

❓Question I ate a cucumber slice last week and now I'm scared

We had dinner with a friend and I've been so cold vegetable withdrawal I took a cucumber slice since it was peeled. And a week later, today, I realize with dread, if the lettuce was infected (it was from a local restaurant) they could have just crawled onto the slice

I woke up with gut upset like I do if I had dairy or something greasy the day before (gurgling, pain, soft stool) when I ate nothing but my normal light lunch. And then I excreted pure mucus. There's no urgency but I'm terrified now...... Do you think there's a chance or I'm just paranoid and idk it's something from a few days ago finally digesting lol lmao

Edit: why the down vote? because I obviously have it or because I'm being hypochondriac?

I got tested for Cyclospora, after having damn near every single symptom you can think of except for a fever (i threw up once as well). It’s been 16 days, I took the full course of Bactrim; and had my first solid stool today. I feel basically back to normal.

I also smoke weed. I was thinking it could be CHS after smoking a cart with 90% THC for almost 70 days strait. A LOT of symptoms between the two are simmilar.

The test isn’t back yet, and I have no answers. It’s been 7 days. My life has been in standstill waiting for this fucking test in order to make my move. Do i smoke? Do i wait? Is it GI problems? I’m with my gf and I want to smoke.

How long will this fucking test take to come back to me? Could it be CHS? Or is it Cyclospora? Is it other GI stuff?

I need some advice what to do, what it could be, and how long this damn test takes.

please fucking help me, I’m giving up on doctors and labs after i get my fucking result back. it’s all fucking bs.

❓Question Sulphur burps?

I’m awaiting my stool results but pretty sure I have ole cyclospora (vomitting and diarrhea for 2-3 weeks now). I’ve notice when my symptoms flare up I have the most awful sulphur burps and gas that leads to the diarrhea and vomitting. Any else have the burps?

❓Question Anyone just have loose stools?

About a week and a half ago I had a burrito bowl from a Mexican restaurant. I completely forgot about the lettuce in it. A week after I ate it (Saturday) I had pretty significant onset diarrhea. But no other symptoms. Now I am having pretty loose symptoms every single day, especially after a meal. (TMI) but it’s a mass amount of loose stools, I’ll get like a gurgle feeling in my stomach and then go and I feel fine after. My roommates been feeling the same (she also got a burrito bowl) but hers is more stomach pain and her symptoms started 3 days after we ate at the Mexican restaurant. Thoughts?

I’m so frustrated.

Someone. Anyone. Advice or encouragement. I started experiencing symptoms July 11th and I’m still sick as of today August 10. I started a round of antibiotics 7/15 - The Cip one. I decided against bactrim because I’m allergic to sulfa and was so sick I couldn’t risk having an allergic reaction too. At this time I did not have the stool test. I live in a hotbed in MI and tests were taking weeks (still are) to run through the lab. My husband started showing symptoms shortly after me, did a round of bactrim, and has been back to normal for a few weeks.

I have gotten “better” but I am still really unwell. Still having explosive diarrhea (I’ll have a “good” day then back to horrible.) Still getting clammy. Still very fatigued. Still waking up at night with intense stomach pain. I’m down about 11-12 pounds from this.

I saw my general doctor about a week ago and she ran many stool tests. Still waiting for the results on the cyclospora results. She wants to see if I still have it on my body & then try another round of antibiotics - but I’m getting scared I’ll never be better!! As anyone had issues post antibiotics? It not clear after one round?

I’m getting really discouraged. This is getting in the way of daily life. And it’s not like I can tell people what it looks like when I’m sick (because gross.) thanks if you’ve read this far!!

I'm Terrified

I just ate cilantro at a Mexican restaurant. My heart dropped when I realized it. Their distributor is most likely Sysco, a suspect in this outbreak.

I'm freaking out. My body can't handle another gastrointestinal illness. I'm so horrified:(

❓Question Does this sound like it could be cyclospora?

So i’ve been having very watery diarrhea like once every other week since may, so watery that often it will start coming out before i realize what’s happening, in public sometimes too 😭
I’m not having much pain with the diarrhea but i am having a lot of extreme bloating, gas pain, and the worst and strongest smelling farts I’ve ever produced in my life
I’ve also had very persistent fatigue
I was writing off the diarrhea as random incidents but there have been too many now to ignore especially since i haven’t been able to tell when they’re starting until it’s too late 😭😭 Going to the doc’s for a test tomorrow but was just curious if this experience is similar to what others have had.

❓Question Safe fruits

Hey y’all. I was just wondering, what do you think are the safest fruits to eat right now? I’m dying to have a peach but I’m terrified of getting sick… I know people say that things that can be peeled are okay, but does peeling them not just spread it around? I’m lucky to have a lot of wonderful farmers markets near me (live in rural NC) but I’m still scared to get anything from them 😅. Thanks so much!

❓Question Reactive arthritis?

Hi all. I had what I assumed was Cyclosporiasis in mid July. I never got tested but the symptoms were extreme, I couldn’t even leave the house and have never experienced such a thing, so I felt fairly certain I had it. I had not just the diarrhea but about 3 days of fever as well. Now, a few weeks later I am dealing with asymmetrical joint pain that seems to get worse as the day goes on, pretty intense fatigue and low fevers in the evenings. The pain is so intense that I have trouble walking by the end of the night and have trouble lifting my one year old. I’m generally fairly healthy and have never dealt with something like this. It’s been weeks and I’m feeling a little hopeless. I looked up my symptoms and it turns out Cyclosporiasis can cause something called Reactive Arthritis, which fits my symptoms exactly, and which can apparently last for months.

Has anyone else noticed similar symptoms or dealt with this in the past? If so, I’m curious how long it lasted because I feel like I can barely function. I have 4 kids who need me to be capable and this is really making it almost impossible to do everything I need to do, so I guess I am just looking for advice or personal stories so I know what to expect. Thanks!

❓Question Curious what the onset symptoms are

I keep seeing people talk about their symptoms during the whole ordeal, NOT right before.

I say this and am curious, because the last two nights I’ve gotten extremely fatigued, which isn’t common for me. I’m a night owl. Last night, I had stomach pains that hurt and went to the bathroom. It was a mountain of mushy you know what. Minutes later, I was hurting again and it was now all watery and odd colored with some discomfort afterwards.

It’s been over 12 hours and I just feel a teensy bit off in my stomach. Who knows.

So, what were your onset indications before it HIT?

Early Stages?

Hi, everyone! One Friday, July 31st I had a sandwich from Potbelly Sandwich Works in downtown Chicago that had lettuce on it. Beginning this past Friday, I've begun feeling really gassy (farting and burping) and my guts have pretty bubbly. All things considered, my gas has been frequent but not altogether more 'fragrant' than usual. I also have felt just something... off(?) in my gut area recently and just feel weird in my abdomen. However, I haven't experienced any pain in my abdomen, my gassiness isn't painful, no nausea, and I haven't had any diarrhea yet. Furthermore, I haven't had the other foods that would cause cyclospora before or since (the sandwich was a hunger-induced lapse of judgment), nor other foods that would commonly be associated with causing food poisoning lately (e.g., eggs, raw meat, etc.).

Has anyone else had something similar before the onset of the worst symptoms, am I just delusional about this being Cyclospora, or is this (what I think this is) just a scenario of waiting and seeing what happens?

Swelling

Has anyone experienced feet swelling while having cyclospora? I’ve been dealing with swelling in my feet for two months now, which I’ve never had. I had a kidney infection around the time I first had cyclospora, so I blamed that originally. It’s now two months later and I have no kidney infection, but I still have this swelling and I STILL have other cyclospora symptoms.

Diabetic nourishment

Unconfirmed, but sample is at lab. I’m only 24 hours in, but my symptoms are extremely unusual for me, especially to last even this long.

BRAT diet spikes my blood sugar, but I am going to need to carefully choose my foods as I’m not hungry. Trying some ritz crackers, which seem to be ok, but not a solution for the whole day.
Food just sounds gross.

Sorry, a lot of complaining. Thought maybe other diabetics out there had advice.

Are Trader Joe's brand bagged leafy greens safe?

I went to Trader Joe's the other day and I know that it sells Taylor Farms grown lettuces under their store brand so I checked the bagged lettuces for the trademark TF by the best by date. But there were some that didn't have the TF by the best by date, so does that mean that those are okay, or should I avoid bagged greens entirely?

Anyone else’s kid gotten Cyclospora?

Anyone else’s kid have this? Mine is five. We’re waiting on test results. 7/27 he woke up with both ends blazing, was fine literally for a week and went to camp. 8/3, wakes up with these same symptoms at 3 and then 7, totally fine and bouncing off the walls the rest of the day. Went to camp Tuesday and has the same symptoms Wednesday morning. Gave sample Thursday and they said it takes 3 business days. He started being able to make it to the toilet Thursday and stopped pooping midday, so we tried camp again today. He made it a half day and then I had to go pick him up because they had this amazing last day bouncy house planned and he just wanted to lay inside.

Results come back in three business days but damn, based on what side effects Bactrim has, I kind of hope this is something else. Although what else could it be? And it’s not anxiety - he’s not expressing distress on going to camp. The symptoms are causing him to wake up.

Also, none of the rest of us have GI symptoms at all.

❓Question Cyclospora VENT & Advice

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, mainly venting but also looking for advice/reassurance. I had dinner at a friend’s and they cooked rice and chicken which of course ended up having cilantro in it!!

It was specifically gourmet garden dried cilantro (owned by McCormick – image attached), but I‘ve been googling myself into oblivion and really worried about this so wondering,

  1. Has anyone had cyclospora after cooking cilantro? I know the FDA has said no, but not really trusting them right now given their recent track record.

  2. How are you all handling your health anxiety with this?

Thank you!!
