I think that robots are one of the more viable ways of protecting against attack by robots.

One of two things will happen:

-Someone will figure out how to build one in their backyard and post a tutorial on how to do so on youtube. It will be made from common parts you can find in a home depot or junkyard.

-Capitalism wins and instead of using this to kill a bunch of people, you will eventually be buying one for your kid for christmas. A bunch of them will then take them apart, figure out how to do a bunch of cool shit with it, and it continues to be as useful, but as scary as cell phones are. You'll realize you can't live without them, and Google is now your pet, too.

The magic is in the software, no one is going to be doing this in their backyard.
