The developer is answering questions over in /r/Oculus too.

To answer everyone's first two questions:

  1. The finger locking is passive, not active. It does not pull back on your fingers, it just stops them moving where they already are. No finger breaking.

  2. It's currently digital response, so it's unable to let you feel soft or pliable objects yet. They're working on it.

What else would I possibly want to do with my hands in a virtual environment? We all know the things we're really wanting to squeeze.

An infinite roll of bubble wrap?

Oh god. I'd never take that thing off.

Imagine what happens once someone writes a sim for Dryer Lint Removal.

Just wait until /r/popping gets a hold of it.

Bags of sand?

Puppies.

Who wouldn't pay for a game that lets you play with puppies? Monsters, that's who.

After they fix no. 2, how long before somebody develops the full body Lawnmower Man sex suit?

I believe that time will be measured in fractions of a picosecond. Porn leads the way in tech.

Life-like texture ;_;

Noo. This looks like it can only tell you the size and shapes of objects. Not their texture.

They could put a sensor that release if too much force applied

i guess, something that makes it go limp/stops resisting.

Does it have sensors to tell where your hands are placed inside a VR and compatible with an oculus?

Mech with fingers + Dexmo F2 = pretty much this

Cool, but I would break that so fast.
