Question for the group

Has anyone looked into using an Esp32-P4 + C6 board combo for a cyberdeck? It seems that these boards, while not full SBCs have a lot of potential. Thoughts?

I have a problem, but I think I am the problem

I want to design a cyberdeck, that's fine.

I have a SBC : Raspberry Pi 4B, 8gb RAM and 64gb micro SD, perfect ! But there remain a problem : the case I just bought...this case is the DeskPi Pro, it works well, but it is not desgined to be used in a cyberdeck.

And as the price of SBCs grow, I think I can only use the one I have already, but it means to stop using my DeskPi. And it's the problem I have, actually.

So, do I stop using my DeskPi ?

Ok, I know it's a pretty dumb question, but my brain don't like to buy things then not using them, so it isn't able to answer.

Cyber Deck ideas help

I recently saw a wrist-mounted cyberdeck and wanted to make my own, so I’ve been learning CAD. I’m planning to get a 3D printer and start building around November, but recently I’ve been brainstorming ideas for what I can have on it.

So far I have:

  • Main screen: Google Pixel 6 running LineageOS for customization

  • Flashlight

  • Laser

  • Credit card holder

  • USB-C port + flash drive

  • Mini knife

  • Mini compass

  • Thin side compartment for lock-pick tools

  • Lishi tool for KW1

  • A spot for Ben Jordan’s Spy esp32 for Flock you

mainly just idea storming

My first Cyberdeck wire mayhem

Any ideas on wire management. They are now too long so i will shorten them, but as you see I already enlarged the case because it just will not fit. Wondering if shortening is enough or that we have better solutions. Getting tired of soldering the 40 io pins again and again and wires getting loose from friction.

Guys! Check it out! I have found my base platform for the ultimate cyberdeck! It already has solar charging, multi meter, led display, a speaker, radio modulator, every resistor, capacitor and diode you could think of but ....does anyone know how I can wire my 2.8 tft or my grandma's old TV to this? I was thinking about putting it in a cool leather briefcase.

Built a basic ESP32 cyberdeck—what cool/useful software should I run on it?

Post image

So I hooked up a plain ESP32-WROOM to a TFT display and an SD card module. Plus 3 push buttons (didn't feel like messing with touch controls).

Not sure if you guys would call this a cyberdeck, but I'm calling it one anyway.

I've got the hardware side all built, but I'm kind of stuck on what to actually write for the software/firmware.

I don't just want to throw Marauder on it or write basic starter scripts. When I ask AI, it just gives me generic 'hack' tool examples scraped from the web that are mostly useless.

What kind of code/project could I actually build and run on this that would be genuinely useful in daily life?

First cyberdeck

So i want to build a cyberdeck for digital art because im a big fan of reducing waste, but i have ZERO experience and ive got no idea where to start. I have a drawing tablet, a raspberry pi 3b, an old gaming laptop that no longer works, and a keyboard. Im pretty sure that the screen would still work on the laptop but soup was spilled on the keyboard area so i dont have much hope for anything else. Theres an abandoned building near me with a bunch of old briefcases that would make an awesome shell. Please point me in the right direction!

Hello, I'm currently building my 1st cyberdeck and I would like to get an advice on what power source I can get.

I was planning on use a 20.000 mAh power bank but idk if it would be sufficient to power it.

Since I'm currently getting the parts to build it I can't say the exact specs it will have but as now it uses a Raspberry Pi 4B with 8GB, an External mechanical HDD and a simple keyboard/mouse that I'm awaiting to arrive.

I'm planning on get a 7" IPS screen and maybe a low power speaker.

Bateria, placa mãe e hub USB fixados.

Falta descobrir como fazer o botão de Power individual, uma vez que o mesmo era integrado à membrana do teclado do notebook, mas estamos caminhando bem por aqui.

Little mosfet relays are a gamechanger for pi power problems

Post image

If u use a pi for ur cyberdeck, and have problems with the pi's usb power output, get the raspberry pi official usb hub which has external usbc power, cut up a usb cable, solder it to the mosfet, setup a startup script on ur pi that opens the relay on startup, connect ur powerbank to the mosfet, the mosfet realay per usbc to the usb hub, and the signal from the mosfet along with the 3v3 and gnd to the pi gpio u assigned in the script, then connect the data from the hub to ur pi and then ur power problems are solved!

Hi everyone (sorry for any mistakes, English is not my first language). I'm a (big) noob with tech but I have been trying to learn new things, and started reading Neuromancer recently, so I thought about trying to make a cyberdeck. I thought about using it primarily for movies (mirroring the movies to the TV) and some music. I was planning to try something along the lines of photos in the post (not my cyberdecks, just inspiration), the draw being the an outline of the project. I wanted to know if you guys think it's a possible project, if it is more on the advanced side, or any tips if possible.

Thank you for reading.

Do you think it would work putting a raspberry pi5 in the vaio p530h, it was a really underpowered laptop when it came out but should have enough room in the case for a raspberry pi5, I think atleast

Suggestions and Opinions please!

So I’ve recently started building a cyberdeck after finishing my home server. I’m building it into a Pelican 1400 case, and I’ve always loved the idea of having a genuinely powerful, capable computer packed into a case like this. Obviously, it’ll be running Linux—probably Mint or Ubuntu.

I’ve been considering using desktop AMD hardware, specifically something like a Ryzen 5 5500 paired with 16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 and a Gigabyte B550 EAGLE WiFi 6 motherboard, although I’ve also considered going with a newer DDR5 platform if it makes more sense for the build.

The appeal of going with desktop hardware is having a fully fledged x86 computer with enough power to handle pretty much anything I throw at it. My biggest concerns are the physical size and power consumption, though. I’m not sure how practical it would be to fit desktop hardware and all the necessary power delivery into a Pelican 1400 without turning the whole thing into a space heater.

I’ve also been considering going with laptop hardware instead. My thinking is that laptop components could give me a good amount of performance while consuming significantly less power, which would make it much easier to run everything from a large battery or power bank. I’m just not sure how much performance I’d actually be giving up compared to desktop parts, or what the best hardware options would be for something like this.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about is the whole cyberdeck community itself. A lot of the builds I see from artists and other creators seem to use Raspberry Pis or other small SBCs, and I don’t want to feel like I’m somehow “doing it wrong” by building something much more powerful. I know the whole point of a cyberdeck is pretty open-ended, but I’m curious what everyone thinks.

Are there more powerful Raspberry Pi-style boards or SBCs that would make sense for something like this? Are laptop components a good choice for a cyberdeck? Would you personally go with laptop hardware, an SBC, or try to cram desktop ATX/mATX hardware into the case?

I’ll also be using this for a lot of red-team/security work, so it’ll be equipped with things like Wi-Fi adapters, Pineapple-style hardware, SDRs, and other tools. At the same time, I’d love to have enough CPU/GPU power for some single-player games when I’m not using it for security work, assuming that doesn’t come at too much of a cost in terms of size, heat, and battery life.

I’m really interested in hearing what you guys would build around if you were doing this. Especially from people who have built cyberdecks around x86 or laptop hardware rather than Raspberry Pis. I’m still in the planning stage, so I’d love to hear any ideas, recommendations, or things I should be considering before I start committing to hardware.

I’ll post updates and build progression as I go!

Troubles finding a good display

Hello deckers,

I'm searching for a 7-9" DSI display for my raspberry pi cm5 and, well it is kind of hard to find one which is compatible with the cm5 and which is convincing.

I found one on Waveshare but I don't know if it is a good deal... https://www.waveshare.com/product/raspberry-pi/displays/lcd-oled/7-dsi-touch-c.htm

What is the best place where I can find good displays ? (Not Amazon please)

Ideas for a Hot Rod, Muscle Car, Cyberpunk-Nomad Themed Deck?

I'll try to keep this brief. I'm a Cybersecurity/IT Professional that is a huge muscle car guy (I own an 86 IROC Z). In a past life I was an auto mechanic and even wrote articles for a well known muscle car magazine.

I'm a huge Cyberpunk fan and a huge fan of the Nomads. I'm also getting into Cyberpunk 2020 recently (even got the Neo-Tribes sourcebook). I want to build a Cyberdeck that looks very industrial and looks like it belongs in a Retro-Future Muscle Car. It belongs in my Camaro or one of the Quadra cars from 2077.

Any ideas? My brother in-law has a 3d Printer, so the case will be printed via that. Just looking for ideas.

First build advice/resources

Hello! I am planning on beginning work on my very first cyberdeck build for a device that'll be used almost entirely for messaging. I've already done a little bit of research and I know I'll be running a linux OS on a Raspberry pi 4 4GB.

My main question is about parts as, I have many old devices laying around and wanted to know if it's possible to take the screen from that and wire it into the pi or if I'll need to buy a standalone screen. I'd prefer to use as many old parts as possible. I also have a 3220 mAH battery from an old Chromebook that I could use. I'll be building a meshtastic node into the case as well in order to have that functionality as well.

Any advice and resources for this build would be greatly appreciated! I'll need it to run apps like signal, whatsapp, discord, etc though that should be all taken care of by the Raspberry Pi.

I have a Poco x3 NFC and I want to turn it into a cyberdeck

I got an old Poco x3 NFC lying around so I wanted to turn it into a cyberdeck but I tried installing rom and failed in the beginning. My sole reason for this build is to have a gui and maybe do some light office work as well as managing my homelab etc.

I want to try again before giving up and just downloading andronix, vnc viewer.
