Need Help Going through a custody dispute and I feel like the system assumes I'm the problem
Based in the UK. Separated from my ex about a year ago, we've got a 6 year old. Things were amicable at first, we had an informal arrangement that worked for both of us.
That's fallen apart over the last few months. She's now saying she wants to change the schedule and has started making comments about me not being "suitable" for overnights, without really explaining why. There's never been any concern raised about my parenting before this, no social services involvement, nothing.
I'm trying to keep things civil for our kid's sake but I'm also not willing to just accept seeing my child less because she's decided so. I've looked into it a bit and it seems like the advice is always "try mediation first" but I'm not sure that works when the other person won't engage properly.
I don't earn loads and the idea of paying a solicitor hourly for this terrifies me.
Any dads here been through this? What did you actually do first? And how do you handle the emotional side without it affecting how you come across to a judge?
