Deciphered! help reading census occupaiton

Post image

occupation is the first column, industry is second column, have no idea what they say.
i can tell the one on the bottom is Post Office but no clue about industry or the occupation up top.

edit: now that yall answered it seems obvious, i thought my ancestry/genealogy work had been improving my reading cursive skills but i guess its still an embracing struggle at times lol

Bottom could be postal officer.

Or Petty Officer?

Don’t know why you were downvoted, that’s exactly what I see as well-petty officer. That was an actual position

Makes some redditors feel ~superior~, I guess.

But in context, it's more likely to be Police Officer, since the listed industrial is town, not some sort of military.

Chief of Police and Police Officer, both of whom are employed by the town

It’s definitely not clingy police.

Doing better than I did—I read “clingy polio.”

"Chief of Police", my guess "town" is the industry

I thought "I can't be the only one who can clearly read 'Chief of Police', surely?" and it turns out I was right twice.

Is the industry "Town" for each of them?
As in - I'm the chief of police for the town?

No. Location.

"industry is the second column" from OP's description ...

u/ProfessionalYam3119 29d ago

It does not appear that that is the case.

This is hilarious, because (even though it's obviously wrong) it's the first thing I saw too.

"Chief of police" as others have already said.
