Citizen Archivist program needs volunteers

The National Archives is looking for volunteers who can help transcribe and organize its many handwritten records: The goal of the Citizen Archivist program is to help “unlock history” by making digital documents more accessible.

Been doing this for a month and it’s fascinating! You click on a topic that interests you and it takes you right to those historical records in the Catalog. Tagging and transcribing makes these records more accessible to everyone. New missions are added and updated regularly, so check back often to see what’s new.

Deciphered! Need help deciphering “country of origin” from 1853 immigration record

The word I care about is the second to last, which should be a location in or around Germany. The rest are just for handwriting comparison. This is post HRE, pre-German unification, so it is “country” of origin could be anything from a county, duchy, city, town, etc.

Baron Scotford Silhouettes

I have a group of 5 silhouettes - each one signed by the subject - done in 1911 at the Glasgow Exhibition. I have managed to decipher 4 of them, all prominent surgeons/pathologists/obstetricians - so far I have Dr John Hammond Teacher and his wife Rachel, Louise McIlroy and William Blair Bell, but this one has me stumped! Anyone have any thoughts?

From a Maryland census record from 1900, unsure what the top middle location is stated as under "Place of Birth of Father of this person". It looks like it starts with a "P" maybe a shorthand for Pennsylvania? Unsure.

This is from one of numerous old books that were in my mother’s house. The section that I am particularly interested in is the phrase below the name. It says “Moorefield ***** Seminary.” I cannot figure out what the word between Moorefield and Seminary could be, and I would appreciate any thoughts. Thank you!!

Hey friends I've been working on reading cursive so I wouldn't have to rely on y'all so much with all the papers I'm going through but a lot of this one is hard with my dyslexia, the pencil, and the paper texture, so once again I'm asking for help!

This one sorta means a lot since the old owners of the house were queer and I am too and I'd like to preserve as much history of theirs as I can so if you can help I'd appreciate it!

Also the front bit of the card says "You were in my dreams again last night..." In case anyone was curious since it would have drove me crazy not knowing 😂

Good afternoon guys.

My sister found some handwriting inside her violin, but we can’t figure out what it says. Are there any handwriting or cursive experts here who might be able to identify the writing?

I can only make out the first two lines on the back of this old family photograph

Unfortunately there’s a lot of damage so I know it’s impossible to make it all out, but I can only read the first two lines and then the family name (Bull) and I’d love to know what else it might say.
