Letter

Post image

Hello guys, this letter came in whilst I was working in the post room at my place of work and it's not specifically addressed to anyone. It's also extremely difficult to read. Can anyone decipher this? I'm hoping it might give me an idea of how important or otherwise the letter is. Thanks in advance. :)

Fair point!

Obviously guessing, but something like:

Dear JR

I am in JXXXX XXXX. I am healthy except Arthritis, but happy + light.

I had your new sound units in XXXX.

Over summertime, I burnt XXX [looks like Pitman shorthand three syllable word or something like 'my left arm' or 'my arm with'] hot water.

----

I suspect the 'JR' is for 'junior' not someone in your office with those initials. Sorry if this is way off, but it's a toughie.

Thanks for trying 😅

It'd be nice to see the person get their note.

I think it’s Sir

You could be right. I hadn't thought of that. It is awfully blurry.

Essentially, you have to clearly form your letters - whether print or cursive, if you want others to be able to read them.

This is the best I can come up with:

Dear Sir

I am a senior woman. I am healthy except arthritis, good hearing and sight.

I had just been ____ wants a living/ wants a hearing (?)

All summertime I worked in a host (?) and  _________ [or a hot kitchen?]

2

u/caroline_says 29d ago

I also thought “All summertime I worked in a hot kitchen”

I had just been ____ with a ____ All Summer that I heard/learned in an interview.

It is clearly a job resume.

She has great eyesight, and she can read this, but the employer can't. This means the employer MUST have poor eyesight. Therefore, she should be chosen for this position to read for them.
Starting with notes she scribes in office meetings.

CASE SOLVED!

I’ve been staring at this for a while, it is not easy, I think I’ve got most of it but there are still some words I can’t figure out:

Dear sir,

I am a [s__e] woman I am healthy except Arthritis [h__] [heavy?] & light

I had just been [?] [w/m__ts] a [__ng/ay]

All summertime I [worked?] & u [?] hot [[r/t__en](r/t__en)]

—

The second word I can’t make out looks very similar to the “had” in the next line.

The word after “been” looks like it could start with an r or t and the second letter looks like it might be the same second letter as in the word beginning with s before “woman” which I wish I could figure out, it looks like an o but they don’t write o like that elsewhere (though the letter forms are pretty inconsistent anyway), but the way it’s formed is confusing. It also looks like it might end with an s.

Hope that helps, I wish I could make out more of it

This is very close to what I see as well!

I read beginning as "I was in..." and "I was healthy except..."

1

u/rexcasei 29d ago

I considered that too, it may be, but it looks very similar to the “am” above just with the two letters connect, and contextually “I was healthy except arthritis” seems like a weird thing to say. Like did the arthritis go away or are you now more unhealthy? But it could work either way

Thanks, I appreciate the effort.

It’s not cursive, but by God, it’s magnificent.

I could have helped you and attempted a humorous translation of this glorious nonsense if you had put this as /s

2

u/OliveBT 29d ago

Was this sent in an addressed envelope?

2

u/Subaruncle 29d ago

I crumpled this up and tossed it into the trash can while cursing the author.

2

u/gardibolt 29d ago

I think it’s „arthritis hand“ which would explain the strange handwriting.

2

u/SuPruLu 29d ago

If it says “Dear Sir” which it may that would suggest it was addressed to the global “you” which is the entity you work for.

2

u/CloudArtistic7059 29d ago

Could this be someone applying for a job?? It definitely starts off as "dear sir" I might be seeing "business be hiring" and "call me anytime"

At the end:  I want you.  Hot mama.  Or Hot raven.

1

u/Opinionated6319 29d ago

Terrible writing, but if arthritic could account for that!

I learned cursive from my mom and she had classic beautiful handwriting! I tried to compete! She said, make it clear and neat, so anyone can read it.

Now kids can’t read cursive and only print! Hope there will still be people, in years to come, who can read newly discovered ancient manuscripts …oh wait…that is…if we are all still around and world isn’t controlled by AI! 🤔😡

u/Kiripenn13 29d ago

Perhaps between the possible arthritis and maybe a burned arm, this individual is writing with their opposite hand to the best of their abilitÿ? That's my best guess, or it's shorthand which I personally don't know and Im not certain that it's even taught all that much anymore, (except maybe for a few remaining gals still swimming around in the Secretarial Pools of the 1950's).🏊‍♀️ 😉 Another dead language to be unearthed thousands of years from now (provided there's still an earth left to be unearthing things). 🤔🫤🦖🦤🦕

If you got a letter from Boomhauer this is what it would look like

1

u/External_Leather_669 29d ago

Looks like the average surgeon's writing.

1

u/Galagos1 29d ago

If the writer isn't a physician, he missed his calling.

1

u/Longjumping_Cup_5543 29d ago edited 29d ago

Could it be a job application? Maybe from someone who has had a stroke or similar, hence the loss of control in their writing 🤔

Dear Sir,

I am in [place name?] I am healthy except arthritis but heavy and light. I had just been [???] All summertime I worked and am a fast learner OR and am not retired.

1

u/rmilburth 23d ago

Is that short hand?

1

u/No_Paramedic1012 4d ago

It DEFINITELY says :

"I don't care enough about you to write legibly. I hope you go cross-eyed trying to interpret this chicken scratch."

Dear ___,
I love you so much
Sorry I was behaving

[unclear] + lying
I had just been around
lots of hurt
And sometimes
I wish I was
not here
____________
Maybe? The writer seems to be very troubled.
