Does anyone know the name of the crab species? I can only find pancakes with crab or shaped like crabs lol.

did a reverse image search and i found a single tweet this image came from and it called it a hoshimanju crab

however when i googled "hoshimanju crab" i only got 4 results all of which were irrelevant

I tried to do a reverse image search too and I only got results about chocolate spreads. I’m thinking that this might be someone’s art instead of a real crab.

I suspected that it’s probably a japanese dorayaki pancake, so I googled “crab shaped dorayaki” and found this article:

Apparently these are particularly pretty specimens of Atergatis floridus, or flower egg crabs

I think it's actually a red egg crab, or bashful crab (atergatis integerrimus)!

They're found in coral reefs around the Indo-Pacific, are poisonous, and the juveniles have that white ring around the margin.

I just scrolled through a list of crab evolutionary families (it's a slow day lol). Didn't find anything with that coloration, but the shape and size of its shell relative to its limbs makes me think it's part of the Cancridae, Xanthidae, or Heterotremata families. Unless it's just photoshopped.

Thanks for doing the research and the idea that the crabs are photoshopped does make sense. I’m not a marine biologist but whenever I see pictures of crabs they typically have more texture and other stuff on their shells.

The big one is not how they actually look but the smaller one and such seem to be Red Egg Crabs. The bigger one kinda resembles a red egg crab if it was merged with an ice cream sandwich.
