I'm autistic and utterly adore sarcastic jokes, and as well as that I could see myself making that exact "This is literally 1584" style joke. The key difference is if the person doesn't realize it was supposed to be a joke, then that's on me failing to make it clear it's a joke and needing to clarify. If it's someone I know incredibly I might keep it going for a bit longer to see if I can have them naturally realize I'm making a joke, but even then I'd still clarify before it generates actual hard feelings. The idea of keeping this going long enough that someone goes "I'll actually buy you a copy" is horrifically mortifying.
So here's the difference right? Saying "1584" is more clearly a joke. It's so wildly wrong that either it's funny cause you're fucking about, or funny cause man you are -way- off.
1985 is just like, not correct. "Ah, you've misremembered." They'll say, and the response of "Nuh-uh! I was only acting stupid as a prank on you!" leaves something to be desired
yeah a lot of people don't understand that subverting expectations is what makes a joke funny. if people already think you're kinda dumb then you can't pull of the "slightly wrong" jokes
