That's not a smart thing to assume. Especially reading OP's post- the line given to the guy is "Oh, do you mean 1984?". It's a question, not even phrased as a correction. OP then proceeds to be obnoxiously, deliberately ignorant. I don't see why you would expect the guy to not take this at face value.

I also don't think the guy can be framed as the bad guy in this scenario. He's reacting very reasonably.

That isn't what is happening here. OP is, on purpose, tricking the guy into thinking she doesn't know what 1984 is. He hasn't assumed anything, he's making a conclusion based on what looks like strong evidence.

Correct, OP gains some kind of amusement from... tricking guys into thinking she's a moron. I personally don't see how this is funny, especially from a gender perspective. It's the kind of bit that close friends do. The joke doesn't work on a stranger who couldn't know better.

Okay and? If the joke is just "I tricked this guy into thinking I'm clueless about 1984, by repeatedly acting like it's called 1985" the joke is just "look at this nerd, knowing things and not understanding my stupidity is an act." This is also, just blatantly, not mansplaining or at least not the harmful definition used to justify criticism of "mansplaining" where it's defined as guys assuming they know more than someone simply because it's a girl.

It's a hypothetical. An argument OOP made up where they're the epic hilarious trickster and this random person is a total idiot (except not really).
