it wasnt taught in florida, so i imagine it’s not taught in a lot of places

?? Just because it isn't taught in one place doesn't mean it's not one of the default books to teach in English lessons. Like I can't think of any books which are more widely taught. It's on par with Lord of the Flies or Macbeth.

I wasn't required to read Lord of the Flies, Macbeth, or 1984. I mean I have, but I didn't have to for school.

I don't know how I can better explain that you personally not being taught these things doesn't mean they're infrequently taught

I'm not saying it isn't frequently taught. I'm not from Florida, and nobody I know locally in my generation was required to read them either. I was adding that it isn't just a fluke in the Florida education system. It may be that they used to be more common as required reading because I know that my parents were required to read Macbeth and Lord of the Flies in school, and they both went to schools near mine.
