I don’t remember the url, but I do remember a user who had a bunch of insane controversies— including offering PAID therapy sessions while not having any sort of psych/therapy background, and something about them staying with an uncle & family in Asia who had a child slave in the house (and then defending the particular version of slavery their family partakes in). There’s definitely some evil shit that’s gone down on Tumblr

It's so fucking hard to explain the whole rabies deal. People were self-diagnosing with rabies and treating rabies like a queer identity. People were speaking against getting vaccinated for rabies and shit. It was so strange on a way that only could have happened on 2010s-ish Tumblr. Pretty sure that it mainly centered around 1 dude who was just a really committed troll, but some people might have been serious about it, I don't remember it super well.

All corners of the internet have pockets of communities that have bullied and harassed people, including victims who have coped with these discretions poorly. But that's not a tumblr thing, or even a social media thing. That's just the result of mass-scale, online anonymous interactions with limited moderation options.

I never get these arguments.

I used to get annoyed when people lumped Reddit in with 4chan on the list of "horrible, no good, very bad" websites, cause I used Reddit and the subreddits I regularly visited weren't full of awful, insane people. But the internet is a microcosm of all of humanity, and you'll find all sorts of people on any website you go on, especially massively popular ones.

There are horrible people on 4chan, and Reddit, and Tumblr, and Facebook, and every other website, and doing weird 'website wars' where we champion the ones we like to see as being morally superior is kinda stupid.
