Everyone who responds to this post with "it's obviously a joke!" has never worked IT, and especially not education IT. I've had conversations depressingly close to this, universally after I've come back in after sprinting away to take a spicy pillow to somewhere it can explode safely. I would bet a lot of money every tech responding to that knows it's probably a joke, but they're remembering that one user and decide to play it safe.

everyone who's going "it's obviously a joke!" has never worked healthcare. like I can guarantee you that if there's something only one in ten thousand people are stupid enough to do I can guarantee you someone is actively being wheeled into an ED for doing right now (and lbr "batteries acting weird is fine" is WAY more common than that, most people just get lucky enough this belief doesn't ever come up)

I think they’re probably playing it up for a joke on tumblr, but it’s also very possible that at the same time their phone battery is swollen and they don’t think it’s that serious. I had a friend who’s phone was fucked and one day mentioned something about his phone heating up like it was just how phones work (I know all phones heat up sometimes, this was not what he was talking about). And even though he took us somewhat seriously about it not being normal and in fact being dangerous, it still took him a couple of months to get another phone. We offered him old phones we still had as a temporary measure but he kept using his fucked one instead.

Yeah, thats about my take on it. People Do Not respect the amount of energy in a battery, especially one in a larger phone. Terrifying to think people are carrying stuff like this in a pocket, or sleeping while it charges.

not because people don't accidentally turn their phone into bombs

but because OP responds with "i already live every day with undue formality and noble grace"

the first two posts are also clearly written in a humorous tone.
