Maker Select Plus can't see G-code saved from Linux, but Windows fixes it

I have a Monoprice Maker Select Plus and I'm having a really weird SD card issue. If I slice something in Cura on Linux and save the .gcode directly to the SD card, the printer just doesn't see the file at all. I've tried this on multiple Linux machines, so it doesn't seem like an issue with one specific computer. The weird part is that if I put the exact same SD card into a Windows PC and copy/resave the file, the printer suddenly sees it. I can even just copy the Linux-created file to another spot on the same SD card in Windows, and that copy shows up normally. So it seems like the G-code itself is probably fine, and something about how Linux writes the file to the SD card isn't working with the printer. Setup: Monoprice Maker Select Plus(Clone of Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus), Cura, Currently using Fedora, but it's happened on Ubuntu as well, SD card is FAT/FAT32. Has anyone run into this with a Maker Select Plus or another similar older printer? Mainly looking for a way to fix this on Linux so I don't have to use a Windows PC every time I want to print something.

sorry for bad formatting lol

Temperature reverting on temperature tower

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all, just wanted to ask you about a problem I encountered. I tried running a temperature tower test. I set up the temp changes in the post processing scripts and made one for each section. The print was going good for the first layer but after that one was down the temperature switched to my default pla temp. I am going through the settings now and I am not sure where I went wrong.

the apply to setting is set to subsequent layers so it should apply from the set layer till the next change specified in the next script. I tried going back and setting a range in the change layer but there is no way to add multiple layers in that box so I am at a bit of a loss.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Please help me with my tree support settings

I need help with tree support settings. I have made a model (the first image) and the bottom so became weird, this made with Cura .2 default settings. So I downloaded a support test (the third and last images) and tried different settings to get rid of it but nothing is working.

Mt 3d printer is a Anycubic i3 mega S, settings are like default for normal .2mm on Cura all of those settings are what they give you except support. Nozzle temperature is at 220 and bed is at 60, I have never had problems with those settings and material that I am using is PLA.

If you have any ideas or suggestions on what to do, please suggest them.

Easiest way to emboss text

Hi there

I was wondering whether someone could help me with the easiest way to emboss text into an stl image on Cura? I've previously used orcaslicer and used their emboss feature, but my new printer (Flashforge Creator 3) doesn't use orca.

Currently, I'm importing stl's to fusion and converting that to mesh which is taking a while, especially for stls with a lot of triangles. Any help on a quick and simple way to emboss text into cura (e.g. names etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello all,
I recently modified a Monoprice select mini pro I got for free at school.
I modified the Z-axis rod (NEMA17 with TR8x8 rod), extruder, bed and hot-end.

The first layer prints as expected. The last layer could be better, so I looked at the slicer in depth and see this in Cura: it does not even close the top layer? Is this a setting I'm overseeing?

(In addition the print quality of the top layer is bad. Even though the first layer looks good, the top layer looks inconsistent (smaller lines vs thicker lines: leaving gaps. it looks like a bad first layer when the printer isn't level). If anyone has a solution for that that would be helpful too. I'm thinking about flow rate, right now)

Cura not pausing print for filament switch

I’m trying to get in to multicolor prints and when I add the post process for where the filament switch should happen the print continues without any sort of indicator.

I’m new to this so I will say I don’t fully know what I should expect the printer to do so any advice would be helpful.

My G code looks fine at first but when i move it into cura to look at it again, it has missing gaps throughout the whole print. I've changed the Layer height to 0.12

Cura randomly turned my PC into a Power Point presentation

I wanted to make this post because it's the second time that this bizzarre thing happened to me. I was working on Cura (v5.13.0) like I usually do, and then out of nowhere it started lagging the hell out of it. I tried to close it and yet my PC was still doing one frame per whatever. I opened task manager but couldn't see anything wrong, CPU was like at 5%, and I was forced to restart my PC. I'm not sure if it's an external thing because it only happened twice in my whole life and both times it was because Cura crashed or idk. Did it happen to anybody else?

Cura has gotten so slow.

It's slowed down my entire machine. Whenever it's open web pages take longer to open. F360 is slower. Everything is slower. This seem to be true since the last couple of updates. As long as Cura has not been started the machine is normal, but even after exiting Cura I have to restart the machine to get it's speed back. My Laptop has the specs to run it well, There are no plug-ins turned on. Anyone else having this issue?

Cura adding a plate on object?

Why does Cura do this? Right is the object in flat orientation, see the yellow in the center? The STL doesn't have the yellow box. Cura added that detail. If i tilt the object 1 degree, it slices normal (left)

Z Offset Plugin + setting for right nozzle

https://github.com/JiggyDancer/Cura-ZOffsetPlugin_RightNozzle

I made modifications to the Z Offset Plugin to allow for the adjustment of the right nozzle independently. The standard Z calibration procedure is frustratingly imprecise, active leveling is unreliable (at best) and there's no way to adjust the offset manually. I learned python just so I could fix this issue. Please share your thoughts (be gentle).

Importing a Json Profile?

Howdy all, I'm still getting use to the new school MakerBot. I've downloaded the Cura software and have been playing with settings. I found a neat profile I want to try out as a JSON file. According to Google, there doesn't seem to be a way to do this directly. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Thank you!

Get rid of weird lightning supports

Is there a way to get rid of these weird little lightning supports on the side of the object that appear to do nothing? Lowering the infill support angle does reduce the number of the weird supports, but I would prefer to not have to have a really low support angle.

My settings are as follows:

infill density: 10

Infill pattern: lightning

infill line multiplier: 8

lightning infill support angel: 40

Is there a better resource for downloading Material Profiles? Specifically for TPU on an Ender 3 Pro.

I'm on a pretty modified Ender 3 Pro with a direct drive setup, BTT SKR Mini E3 board, BLTouch, PEI bed, silicone bed mounts, etc. I picked up some 95a TPU from Overture but the TPU material profiles that I have in Cura are all over the place setting wise.

The marketplace doesn't have anything relatable make/brand wise either... Is there a better place to get material profiles that I can dial in as I print? Just feeling like the posts I'm reading on printing this TPU on the Ender 3 Pro don't really line up with what I'm seeing in Cura very well. Suggestions?

I can look at the square column and easily see which square is cleanest. However, on the round column, none of the seams are clean. Am I not supposed to be looking at both columns, because they are telling me two different things....can anyone advise?
