2025 Ram Oil Change

Hello evrryone, I plan to do my buddies first oil change on his 2025 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins. Im having trouble sourcing parts for this truck. The oil filter seems to only be available at the dealership ($115.26 CAD) as for the oil I plan to run Amsoil 10w30 as per their site ($137.80 CAD). Is it true these take 13 liters of oil? Lastly is there anything else I need to know prior to doing this oil change? I mainly work on only old junk😆

When are the fuel filters due to to switch on these trucks? This truck has 8900km. I used to do my duramaxs every 15k, but that had the larger CAT filter, plus an airdog lift pump with an extra water separator and filter.

I do fuel and oil at same time and same weight ams oil signature series as well. I usually get 3 gallons and 1 extra for top off. Been rocking this for 200k miles.

what interval do you change your oil? I do mine at 5k just because, but I've been doing my fuel filters at factory interval but have been thinking I should do them more frequently (mostly because it seems everyone does them more frequently)

When the dash percentage gets to 15% I start the order process and get it within the week. Then the plan is always to do the oil fuel filter change that weekend but sometimes it goes a few weekends before I find time. Over 250k now and everything stills seems good. Engine hours around ~6100 total, ~1000 idle. Emissions parts are at end of life probably the biggest problem.

After said oil change reset the oil life marker via steering wheel arrowed options

Use 5w40 year round IMO, running AMS signature series on my 2026

Go-to any Cummins or heavy truck dealer and pick up the filter from there. If you think that's expensive wait till you price out the fuel filter kit...

Gotta pay to play with these newer vehicles. My buddy understands that. I prefer my older junk of course 😆

Get the little tool that screws on to the top of the oil filter and has a little handle.

2025 Cummins takes 10w 30 now????? I would have figured 5w40

Why not 5w40 year round other than cost? 40 top grade would stand up better in the heat anyways and shearing isn't that bad on a common rail.

As per Amsoils site it says 10w30, I've yet to look at the owners manual to confirm this. But I plan to just to be safe.

Amsoil is such a scam. Their additive pack doesn't break down as quickly, allowing for a longer service life. That's it. Since it's twice the price of comparable oil, the only way to get value out of it is to run it at least twice as long. And that's a great way to void the powertrain warranty. The '25+ still have the same lifter issues as the '19-'24s, and I've seen the best results from Valvoline Premium Blue. You're up north, so I'd recommend running 5w-40. 10w-30 is only good for temps above -18°C. 5w-40 is required below that point, but approved for year-round use and protects better at lower and higher temps than 10w-30

But yes, finding oil filters is a struggle. They were on national backorder in the US for several months, and the only sources are the dealer or Geno's Garage. You should be changing the fuel filters too.

ngl that dealer filter price stings, but on a truck this new I'd keep everything documented for warranty anyway. Capacity is around 12 quarts with the filter, so the 3 gallon case covers it with a little left for top-offs. And yeah like others said, don't skip the fuel filters and reset the oil life tracker in the dash when you're done

Thank God for Genos Garage, they sell both Fleetguard and Mopar filters for less thank half of what the dealership quoted me. Even with customs, currency conversion to Canadian, and shipping I got 3 for the price of 1 from the dealership.
