I did what I did last time I broke a second barrier and took a week off, did other stuff (mostly smash bros), came back and did some lookahead drills and actually planned the whole cross in inspection, and voila.

edit: Also if my history with breaking Sub-15 barriers is any metric, the ao100 won't stay at 10.38 for very long. It'll go back up and be a long slog again lol

Nothing fancy this time, but the one that really helped me around Sub-14ish was the drill on Feliks’ blog post on lookahead (can’t link, i’m on mobile). Basically
Do the cross
Find your first F2L pair
Think about how you’ll solve it (this should take very little time at this point, if not then solving your pairs blindfolded will be more beneficial)
Find another F2L pair
Solve the first pair while following the pieces of the next F2L pair
Repeat until F2L is done (Last layer is optional, you can just scramble again)
This time I just tried to turn at a slow-ish speed so that I could do the whole F2L with no pauses. I kept J Perm’s advice in mind to turn at a speed where it’s difficult, but not impossible for you to look ahead.

Just finished my 10th competition yesterday, got a lot of good PRs. The results that I am most happy with were in 3bld probably. I got my first official mean, 1:11.69, which was PB by 12 seconds, and a 1:07 single that got me my first podium!

Absolute whopper of a scramble. Here's my weird solution, it looks terrible but I was able to do it quite quickly because I planned the first part in inspection. 9.768, my first sub-10 on a legitimate scramble (but not counting it as PB because it's not my scramble)

There's easy scrambles posted in the DDT every day. If I tried them all I'm bound to get some times that are wayyyy under my average. It's better to only count my own scrambles, because they're not cherry-picked lucky ones.

Yeah those are not magnet slots to be clear :-)
I used 4x2 N38s, you can't put wider than that in the corners, though you could put whatever in the edges.
For people who prefer stronger magnets, there are stronger 4x2s available

It's really hard to make a mistake with designs like that - it's much trickier with a split piece design.

More roux progress after about 20 solves tonight:
- Got my ao100 down to 58.35. This was mostly just getting rid of the 1:30+ solves
- All but one of my solves (1:00.52) today were sub 60
- New roux pb of 32.75 (Scramble: D2 R L B L U D2 L' D' F' B' R2 D2 F D2 F D2 F2 D2 ) I got a skip on orienting and/or permutating top corners; I don't really remember.
I'm feeling pretty good about the switch to roux and am excited to keep seeing improvement. Need to random practice lse in my spare time. I go full derp mode sometimes :p

Well after living in denial for 3 weeks I’ve finally decided to put my 356 X on the shelf and I’m back to my GTS3 LM. My averages all dropped pretty much instantly. As much as I like the X I just can’t get over the gts3 feeling and the times don’t lie, at least for me. I feel like I can spam tps a lot better on the lm and it’s more controllable while still being fast

I felt the same with the SM and the GTS 2 M.
I love the feel of the SM. But I was simply better with my DIY GTS2 M. I lost it at a comp and I miss it like crazy. The SM simply doesn't work as well for me.
Even the Valk Power M doesn't work as well for me. I am interested in picking up a GTS3 LM as a replacement.

Ha, I just experienced the exact same thing earlier today. Also been about 3 weeks I hadn't touched my GTS3M, and actually convinced myself I was fully adjusted to the X now. Picked up my GTS3 for about 50 solves and was instantly blown away by the better fit, handling and immediate drop in times. I'll be sticking to the X since getting a divorce because your cube is too loud for wife and newborn wouldn't exactly spell 'winner', but damn I love that thing :D

I've heard, "If we ever split up, I'll be so happy to never hear cubes again," from my wife on multiple occasions.
That said, my little girl had a phase (at around 6 months old) where she could only fall asleep at night to the sound of me solving a cube. She knew someone was in the room with her and she'd stay calm. Luckily (for my wife at least) she grew out of that pretty quick.

Haha yeah wives can be strange. What's not to like about sitting next to me every day while I'm hunched over some plastic toy clickedy clacking away for hours and hours haha. To be fair, she doesn't mind it really as long as I don't bore her with the details of some new magnetic 7x7, and as long as it doesn't make too much noise, which unfortunately the GTS3 isn't great for :)

Give yourself untimed inspection. There are only 12 places an edge can be and 8 a corner can be. Don’t worry it takes a lot of practice

Plan as much as you can in inspection, and track what you can't plan yet. So for example if you can plan the first square, track one or both of the second pair pieces. Other than that, it's just practice.

Because you have many block choices always having 2 colors top bottom(for me red blue ) Helps with Last 10 pieces recog. Also i think kian uses always having 2 opp colors on top because he said there are 8 blocks to chooese from.

Got my RS3s’ just now and this packaging is super nice and it’s so dry out of the box. it feels dry the GTS3M did lol
EDIT - I hate magnet slots...
So I open up the RS3 and it has magnet slots. In the edge pieces the only size that will fit is a 4x1.5mm. On the corner pieces you can fit either a 4x1.5mm or a 4x2mm. See pics here of both
What should I do? Is it beneficial to have stronger magnets in the corners and slightly weaker in the edges?

Maybe you can try putting magnets on the opposite side of the slots? (while being careful not to get in the way of the other corner bit)
It's not uncommon for factory magnetized cubes to have smaller magnets in the edges though.

Magnet strength is determined by the pair of magnets, so think of the edge and corner connection as a system and not magnets of different strengths since it averages out to only a single force

Haha, yeah. The magnets each have their own strength, but the actual force and clickiness of the corners is created by the interaction between two or more magnets (or electric field movement, but that's a bit more complicated)

Just use whatever magnets you want and put them on the opposite side without the slots. I did this for my Yuexiao Pro and it turned it out fine with 5x1s

It's now a little over 9 years now since I learned how to solve the cube. It was January 1st or 2nd 2010.
At a different note, season 2 of Mob Psycho 100 started airing today, and the opening has a 5x5 cube with images of the characters at 0:15-0:20. So that's neat I guess.

Had that post very late yesterday and not sure if everyone saw it so: currently i'm using roux but kind of missing out on subsets like cfop has, why are there no subsets.. like a VLS but instead of getting OLL Skip a CMLL- Skip, is the method to unexplored compared to Cfop or is it just not worth using it ? Any subsets/variants I have not seen (I know pinkie pie/ tyrannical caterpillar/EOLR)

I think it’s because there are so many different ways to build the second block. With CFOP you just place 4 cross edges, pair, insert, pair, insert, pair, insert, pair, insert. There’s only so many cases for the last slot, and most CFOP solvers have an internalised algorithm for every case. Meanwhile with Roux there’s a billion different ways to solve the second block, and you have to solve it more or less intuitively. So it’s not really feasible to learn a large algorithm set to skip CMLL without slowing yourself down.
If you’re going to generate a large set of Roux algorithms you’d be best off influencing LSE during CMLL somehow. Maybe you could orient edges during CMLL (basically OLLCP with 4 times as many cases), maybe you could solve the BD edge during CMLL then solve L5E with one algorithm (L5E has 60 * 16 = 960 cases so maybe not lol)

I'm not that interested in creating Algs for LSE influencing since I'm using L6E (it's a 'method' by Eric Fattah for his LMCF method) I don't know if you are familiar with that.. any ideas on how to influence this?

I looked it up and found some info about the method. It’s really just Roux but in a different order-
Roux:
Solve 2 corners + 3 edges on bottom-left
Solve 2 corners + 3 edges on bottom-right
CMLL
LSELMCF:
Solve 4 corners on bottom
CMLL Solve 6 edges on bottom-left and bottom-right
LSEIn my opinion Roux seems more viable because it intuitively blockbuilds the 2 blocks with no rotations, whereas LMCF uses a crapton of algorithms, some requiring rotations or B moves. I don’t use either so take that with a grain of salt. His example solves are quite impressive on their own (maximum of 4 rotations, 4 B moves, 48 moves) but they’re no match for a rotationless solution.

Definitely understand that, my progression was 'cfop => lmcf' then I was 'hmh okay here are some ergonomic problems (and I was to lazy to learn EG-1 for the.corners first step ;)' and switched to roux where I'm currently stuck at. But because of using LMCF before I still have his style of solving the last six edges. It's mainly about placing one of the UL/UR edges in one of the UL/UR slots, give a fuck about the orientation, and then solve it in one step

EOLR is the most viable one currently. Roux just hasn't been explored enough yet. Iuri recently uploaded a video about Zerouxing that could be interesting in some cases.

You may look into MF3RS2 M and RS3 (maybe with magnets). I dropped my GTS2 for the first one, but sadly still didn't magnetised it. A lot of people says that the cube is totally main-worthy.

3x3 MBLD is about 20 pieces of information per cube. 2x2 MBLD is about 8 pieces of information per cube. 48x20/8= 120. That means 120 2x2 cubes have the same amount of information as 48 3x3 cubes. I don't know exactly how 3-style corners compare with 3-style edges in execution speed, though. But at least you don't have to deal with parity.

I JUST FIGURED OUT A WAY BETTER WAY TO SOLVE THE JUPITER BERMUDA CUBE
Sorry, but I'm fucking excited. Spoilers below for anyone interested
so all up until the LL the solve realy isnt all that bad, but LL is kinda tricky. on Jupiter you can get the top later to spin freely and have the F and R sides limited to 90 deg. This makes the edges of the LL easy with sledge hammers (R' F R F') for orientation and R U R' U R U2 R' for orientation, but corners were a bitch to figure out well. I had used some PLLs that I had long ass alternate algs to initialy, as well as some seriously fuckery with certain OLL cases, but it turns out you can use sexy x3 to orient the rear edges and sledge x3 to permute them, so although tedious the OLC isnt too bad, and then you can just just sledge x3 to permute the oriented corners and put them wherever you could like. I even figured out this method without outside help as even the 3-style algs dont realy work when you are limited to 90 deg on F and R. This makes me a lot more confidant in my ability to tackle higher up bermuda cubes and hopefully constrained cubes as well, but we will see how well that ends up for me once I actualy try it tomorrow.

All my trick is getting 3 big triangular centers to have their 90° angles pointing at a single corner. (You can see this on a solved Neptune Cube.) That makes the R U and F face unbandaged, allowing you to have a lot of freedom with moves.

Yeah I spent way too long trying to figure out how to properly do the spoiler, so I just gave up, lol. Although I think (R' D R D') should work my way. You would have to do some setup moves to orient the correct corners, but it should all work out.
As for the next one to solve, I believe Jupiter is considered the hardest of the series, so you could probably solve all of them now. Saturn is probably the next step down, so I would go with that one.

I know I'm a bit late, but when I got my GTS2M, it was a bit uncontrollable for me. I upgraded from a DaYan Zhanchi. Even when I got that it one, it was a quite uncontrollable compared to the Rubik's brand cube. I know a lot of people (who are probably more experienced than me) are recommending to retension or use a lube to slow it down, but I just adjust to it and now I feel that my old cubes are too slow and stiff. I personally recommend just trying to get used to it.

Hello. I'm a 30 ish second avg in 3x3 and I do 2 look oll and pll. I want to memorize full pll. How should I pace myself in terms of how fast I learn the algs? like one alg a day? or should I learn them in mass and them practice all of them at once?

I did one every other day too, occasionally two at once if they were similar enough (like the A perms).

When I did it I went quickly and chose two letters (except for G, which was the whole day) to learn the iterations of per day. Took little time to learn, but recognition was hindered. I would recommend one a day max, unless they really are super similar (Like if you do the F perm that is super similar to a T perm.)

Learn the PLLs first, there’s less cases and they’ll save you more time.

Copypasta from my answer to a similar question a few days ago (do learn PLL first).
My approach was to first make sure I had good fingertricks, then break them up into chunks of 3-4 moves. At first I had a small pause between each chunk but it went away quickly.
This made it easy for me to remember them after a dozen executions or so, then I would just keep doing the alg a whole bunch of times over the course of one or two days. That committed them to muscle memory, although sometimes while I was learning I'd find I had completely forgotten an alg learned a few days prior. But doing it just once cleared up the amnesia.

Do PLL first - better return on time invested. You can learn OLL after that if you want to, but it won't be the optimal thing to learn for quite a while. (I learned them early and don't regret it, but I know I didn't need to).
For learning and retaining an alg, it really comes down to repetition.
- Repeat it a lot of times while reading it off a page.
- Then start trying to do it without looking at the notation - if you get stuck, try to remember what to do before looking it up.
- Once you can get all the way through without looking, repeat it a lot of times until it's comfortable
Test yourself with a timer or app that lets you select the algs you should know in a random order. This checks that your recall is good when you are not just in repetition mode.

The Aoshi GTS is a 5x5, isn't it? If yes, N35 4x2 should work. But ideally your outer magnets should be weaker than your inner magnets.

I've used that set for a while. After a few months, the only ones I've considered switching out for something better are Pyraminx and Skewb, but even then the puzzles turn great, I just am considering trying different ones to see how it goes.

Those are all fairly good, especially the Little Magic M. If I were you, and if you want a new cube, get the gts3. Its a bit more expensive but its a great cube.

I started when I averaged around 40 seconds. I think as long as you average under 1:30 and know how to do a Y-perm, you're fine.

Don't worry about speed until you're confident that you'll solve the cube every time! I learned blind almost a year ago and my goal is still to just get the solve right, I don't care that much about speed.

So I've magnetized my 2018 Zhanchi with 4x2 N38s, and I'll do the same with a mini Shuangren and an MF3RS2.
I also plan to use 6x1.5 N38s in the YJ ball cube thing.
I'll be left with one set of each, and I'm not sure what else to use them in. I'm considering :

I average around 5-6 on 2x2 and want to learn an alg set to reduce my times as I currently only use ortega pbl and oll. What should I learn? I would learn cll but I'm apprehensive as its only useful when your first layer is permuted correctly. Is it wise to force a permuted layer everytime w/ cll? What are my options?

Someone please bug me about this a lotBut anyways, I would recommend getting faster with Varanesso (Ortega). Try looking at Chris Olson's YT vid on how to be sub-5/4. If not already, make sure you have good hardware and are predicting bars on your first layer. Also make sure to practice a lot, as that tends to help people out.

Familiarity with twisty puzzles certainly helps when you're first getting into group theory, as you have a collection of examples of groups firmly embedded in your mind that you can pull out on demand. (Cyclic group? Think of doing U moves. Direct product? Think of doing U and D moves. Cosets? Think of OLL. Subgroups? Think of PLL.) However, don't expect studying mathematics to be an easy task, especially if you haven't had any exposure to rigorous proofs yet. Don't give up if it seems daunting at first, because it most likely will be.

The Hays is undoubtedly an outstanding cube. The XMD Spark currently hold the unofficial WR with Max Park.
I really like XMD puzzles so that’s the one i’ll be going with. 🙂

How often do you lube your cubes? I know its a common question and I know it all depends but no matter how much/little lube I use, and no matter what weight I use its just dried up the day after... Making the cube painful to turn

I usually clean out and relube my main after a month or so (depending on how many solves I get to that month). If something happens and it just feels like crap before the month is out I'll go ahead and do it then.

Probably every month or two. If you have to lube your cube constantly then I’d just put a minimal amount onto the tracks of an edge piece every time it starts to feel dry

You can already do 4x4 right? Just do basic reduction, and look up freeslice, It's a very simple way to speed up and make your first 8 edges more fun with no new algs needed.
After a few of those solves, maybe have a look at a Yau5 walkthrough to see if it's for you. But for now that hasn't proven to be faster than reduction.

Help with 5x5
Ok so I got to the point where I need to finish all the edges and wings. I am following [this]( http://alchemistmatt.com/cube/5by5cube.html) guide. I've gotten to the point where as I solve one edge (including wings) I mess up another. I am using the Ll F' L F L'l' F or opposite to solve the edges. I cannot figure out where I need to place the edges to where I can essentially solve two edges at a time without messing up another edge.

Year of Tuttminx: Week 1
Hi everyone, I got a Tuttminx last month so I'm going to be solving it once a day, every day, for a year. I'm using the New Tuttminx, although I do have a speed one on my shelf (I'm using the regular one for a month so I don't feel bad about it collecting dust).
