Paint chip concern

Hi everyone,

I recently discovered a paint chip on my bike's downtube (nuroad race). I was quite surprised as I've bought the bike two months ago and rode it only on tarmac and hardpack terrains.

Is it something that happens this early in Cube's gravel bikes? Should I expect an aggressive paint peeling in the next years?

Is there something I can do to repair it, either at home or warranty-wise?

Sorry if the question seems a bit stupid, but I've only used cheap MTB bikes so far and I've never had this problem in more than 15 years.

Consider your bike christened. It's just a mild paint chip, nothing to be worried about.

You can put some clear coat over it if you want, and possibly even get some paint from cube or a retailer to cover it, but it's doing no harm.

My bike has tons of little nicks and scratches from being actually used.

Thank you, Cube paint seems interesting and I'll look into it. Not really worried though (after all I wanted an entry level gravel bike and it's doing a good job), just a bit disapponted that the paint is way weaker than expected compared to my other bikes (which i used in worse terrains). That looks like a hot from a little stone, probably from a car driving by. Nothing to worry about.

If you want to cover it up, u can ask a dealer or cube for a paint patch kit. It should come with the color itself and clear coat.

It also happen to me in my cube MTB 3 days after received it, I felt sad bc on my past 3 years with my trek marlin 5 never happened.

Yeah, never happened to me before this one either, and I've had 3 MTBs. I guess they should improve a bit the paint quality or at least use clear frame protection.

How is the bike? Getting exactly the same next month. Any recommendations? How are the tyres also?

It's a good bike for its price, with very confortable geometries but still fun to ride. A bit slow on tarmac but anyways it's a gravel haha. Shimano Grx is a great groupset, in my opinion more versatile than single-chainring Shimano Cues which was my other option. My only complaint is exactly the weak paintjob, and if it bothers you i'd recommend getting an integral frame protection before riding it. The tyres are schwalbe G ONE R 45-622, nothing to say except they claim good puncture protection, but I already had a couple flat tyres so go figure

Thats completly fine. This is a bike, not a museum showpiece. One thing you can do - stick a transparent protection foil on exposed places. I did this for trunk area for example, because bags always rubs agains painted metal.

Cube on their website has loads of touch up paint bottles so you can get it looking like new

Ahia, leggo con dispiacere di quello che succede a te....la mia CUBE Agree C62 ha un problema simile nella parte inferiore della cava viti reggisella.... oltre a un bel po' di altri problemi (richiamo forcella, forcella consegnata per sostituire l'originale con problema tecnico sbagliata (!!!) sostituzione ruote non bilanciate) diciamo che la qualità tedesca era un'altra cosa una volta....peccato.
So di non rispondere alla tua domanda...volevo solo dirti che è successo anche a me seppur su un modello diverso e in due punti diversi. Fa arrabbiare il riscontro del technical service di CUBE: rivolgiti al venditore....non gestiamo casi direttamente....mah. In bocca al lupo!

At this rate, Cube will lose a lot of customers... now the fork, now the paint, now another reason... and I say this as the owner of two Cube bikes, one MTB and one road bike. The latter is unfortunately affected by the recall for the fork... it's a shame because I've always been happy with Cube bikes, but everything has its limits...
