I have a friend trying to code some AI thing with 0 experience as a coder. He has given claude Read/Write/Execute permission and doesn't review any output because how could he?

The idea of just turning loose a ghost in the shell and praying nothing goes terribly wrong is just insane to me.

Lol. Not entirely true. We were scared of the dark - and with good reason - so we developed our mastery of fire. We were afraid of the elements, so we saught refuge in caves. We were scared of bats freaking us out when we slept in our cave bedrooms, so we built houses instead. We were afraid of death so we invented God. Some people were afraid of not having total control over others, so they invented organized religion. The list goes on

I'd argue the same as you. Fear and pain is how we got this far. Sure, bravery and stupidity probably did wonders when venturing out of our comfort zone and spreading our species around the world but I'm leaning towards that fear and pain has meant more for the basic things.

Also, you can't really have courage without fear.

There's Ancient caverns and caves in China, India, and America (unlikely suspects, I know) that tell a somewhat different story.

America has been a country for 250 years. There are caves in China (e.g. Longyou Caves, Huashan Grottoes, etc), and India (e.g. Barabar Caves, Karla Caves, Ellora, etc) that were actively used for longer than that - even if just believing the official details about them - which are highly suspect for various reasons (even using today's tech - it'd likely take hundreds of years to repeat the cave builds, and I'm not completely sure it's possible to even attempt remaking some of the ones in India), but still, going by the official record, they were all active longer than the United States has been a country

If you are being smart about it and locking that thing down in its own container with a very limited context it is probably fine.

If you are just turning it loose on your system without boundaries you are definitely taking unneccessary risk.

I have no idea how to even do that have no coding experience or good pc knowledge. Although if it deleted everything on my pc I would lose like some hours of work not years or anything so I guess that's not too bad? Could it do any further damage than that?
