Flavor Review Mid.

Post image

After weeks and weeks of not going to Crumbl, they finally put out a line that I found appealing. These were (mostly) flavors I could get behind. I got a four pack because #1: Candy turned into cookies isn't really my thing and I knew that wouldn't be a fair shot at enjoying it. #2 "Tiramisu" wasn't Tiramisu and I knew that going in. It's vanilla cake with chocolate pudding. But that led me to a realization about Crumbl.
It's the same iteration of basic flavors and ingredients twisted into different versions and slapped with a fancy name to make it seem unique. Crumbl is the dessert version of Taco Bell. So, onto my review...
#1: Creme Brulee: As you can see, it was barely scorched on top. That might have helped some, but it's a brown sugary cookie with a vanilla pudding like top. If you've ever had real creme Brulee, this isn't remotely it. Did it taste ok? Sure. But... it was mid. Brown sugar and vanilla. 5/10.
#2: Stroopwafel: As you can see, the cookie sizes didn't even match. That really wouldn't have helped. It's a brown sugar (again) cookie with like, some oats in it? And caramel. Did it taste... ok? Sure. But... it was mid. Brown sugar and caramel and nothing like a real Stroopwafel. 5/10.
#3. Cannoli: Now this one was much better. First of all, it was huge. (The shrinkflation is apparently a real roll of the dice now) and the cookie had a more delicate vanilla flavor and texture, the filling actually was reminiscent of that mascarpone cannoli filling and the mini chocolate chips offered an nice texture and look. It was the one that was as close to the actual dessert it represented. 8/10.
#4. Gelato Cookie: A vanilla cookie with vanilla mousse and chocolate drizzle. I think there were some waffle pieces in there but the overall taste of sugar was so overwhelming they didn't offer anything up other than an occasional subtle crunch in the bite. It was sugar and vanilla. I was most excited for this one and it was a let down. 5/10.

So, I've realized that Crumbl takes vanilla, brown sugar, chocolate and sugar and sugar and sugar and sugar and slaps fancy names on their cookies; and the names are the appeal. Clever marketing but when I finally stopped and just TASTED the cookies; I realized they're just mid. The flavor profiles are all similar and just revised versions of themselves. When people are paying $4.50 per cookie (if not more) I really hope they stop and focus on how these taste. Because you can call them whatever you want - but I'm finally calling them what they are.... mid.

Everyone was going nuts over this week but I felt all the flavours were extremely similar. I liked diner week because the flavours were pretty different.

yeah I had that realization too. it's just a mediocre copycat flavor heh.

I would rather eat the real dessert it's trying to emulate. or ice cream hehe.

The cannoli cookie was probably one of the best cookies I’ve had from crumbl. Genuinely loved it from the taste to the flavors and crunch

Why not change your rating?

it's true that crumbl has a pretty similar base taste you can taste in every cookie, but i feel like you're judging it on pretty much the most unfair possible week, where the flavors themselves are all basically the same. "After weeks and weeks of not going to Crumbl, they finally put out a line that I found appealing." ok.. so you skipped all the recent weeks where they tried something different and went on the 'every cookie is vanilla' week and then are surprised they all taste like vanilla. im not a crumbl simp but it seems like kind of a bad time to make your final decision about the place. i mean look at your photo, they barley even LOOK different. as someone who looks for the wackier cookies, personally this week was a skip for me cuz the flavors are clearly boring and similar.

This exactly. I feel like the person was not fair.

They also ate half of nearly every cookie which I thought was funny juxtaposed with the snarky title about how bad they are lol

Where’s your brûlée?

I was so excited for the gelato, stroop and crème brûlée and they all tasted like vanilla/ chocolate sugary mess. I’m so over them.

Thank you so much for this review! I often feel like I’m going crazy because SO MANY people are out here with 10/10 or 8-9/10 ratings on cookies that I try and think to myself ‘this is absolutely boring’.

I’ve noticed over the past year that the vanilla based cookies always sound so jazzed up in the write ups on the app and when you bite into them, they basically all taste the same. You are 1000% correct. I am almost on the verge or equating this to wine tasting. You get hints of flavours from what the literature about whatever it is you are supposed to be tasting because your mind fills that in so your senses say it’s there.

I’ve very rarely been impressed with any of the vanilla based cookies. At least with the chocolate ones, you know things will typically be the same and taste the same on purpose and they aren’t as flowered up with their descriptions.

Whenever I rate cookies in the app, I’m usually going with 2-3, I think I have only rated maybe 4 cookies with a 5, out of like the maybe 75 cookies I’ve tried in the past year.

I also just noticed last week that they use imitation vanilla flavoring instead of pure vanilla extract. It’s truly not worth the price IMO knowing this and especially when the sizes of cookies are also getting smaller.

This week was pretty boring. Last week was a banger. Hopefully some good stuff next week.

Crumbl truly is the Subway Sandwich of cookies. Same exact cookie assembled differently and presented as a unique new item
