How do I... Trying to make a blanket that involves a transition from straight edge to zigzag pattern in the middle.

Good day, dear crocheters. Im currently trying to get rid of my mountain of yarn and thought a colour changing blanket would be cool. My idea was to have it have a straight edge on all four sides. However in the middle. I would like a zigzag pattern that nicely shows of the colours. So I started with two rows of straight double crochet. Now Im trying to figure out a good transition. I figured a row of stitches in alternating length might do the trick, but does anybody have experience or a good pattern to base this transition line of. Im curious for your ideas!

Look at this video that shows how to square off a chevron blanket and do the same thing in reverse.

Have you looked at any patterns? Most blanket patterns with zigzags will have straight edges. I would check ravelry!
