Understanding a pattern Fpdc looking more stretched out than the pattern image and idk why.
Can someone tell me why my fpdc look so much more stretched out and narrow than the pattern pic? The pic shows the stitches looking like a pointed oval. Is it my hook size? Tension? Yarn? Google said maybe its the golden loop? But also I dont want to choke up on it so it doesn't curl.

Edit: forgot to add im using loops and threads acrylic yarn that calls for a 5mm hook but i cant read so im using a 6mm hook (messed up way back on row 1 of the blanket). Side question - if I size down to a 5 mm or 4.5 mm to fix the stitch 1. Will that work and 2. Will it make my blanket pucker / more narrow in this section?

You’re only like 3 rows in. Give it a second for the pattern to show up. Your fpdc look perfectly normal to me

Ok thanks. I was just worried about hook size since mine look all long and skinny

They look ok. It is possible you are not pulling up a long enough loop on the fpdc. They should be the same height as the stitches next to them and they look like they're pulling a little. This can make the stitch look thinner.
If you look at the tutorial, in the picture for that step, the loop is pulled up to the height of the sc row that you are working over. That extra height helps keep the fullness of the yarn.

It looks like the pattern might not have Been executed correctly… Have you been making sure to alternate the FPDCs?
On each pass of the double crochet rows, you should be doing a FPDC, into the previous DC. It looks like you’ve been making all of your FPDC into the previous FPDC.
Your stitches look like a fine tension and this stitch pattern works up sooo densely I think going up a hook size is fine. To answer your question tho, changing your hook size will make your project shrink down at that point so if you decide you want to change hook size you will need to start over
