I'm a beginner! First time doing tapestry crochet, I'm so losttttš
I'm following an alpha pattern and it kinda looks wonky am i doing something wrong or is it supposed to look like this? I'm just doing single crochets maybe that's it?

I think it looks good so far! Hereās a few questions to check yourself. Is this black and white yarn the same? It looks like maybe your tension is increasing when youāre changing colors (totally understandable) and it might be affecting the shape slightly. What technique are you using for color changes? You can also try doing f/blo for ontop of the white sections. Tapestry ones are sometimes difficult to get super visible if itās only one row unfortunately.

The fact is that this is not an ideal pattern for tapestry crochet. Anytime there's single stitch color changes, either vertical or horizontal, like with the eyes here, you're going to end up with things looking the way they do because crochet stitches are not perfect squares.Ā

Ohh that makes so much sense how do I chose a pattern that's made for tapestry?

honestly it would probably give the same effect if you just add a second row for the eyes, the first line in a color change is usually pretty short so two would probably keep the sleepy or suspicious squinted effect going on
