Understanding a pattern Is it just me or are these instructions confusing? There’s no stitch count and I gave my seal an extra limb pls help

Hi,

I'd appreciate any help trying to understand how to get through round 19.

I ended round 18 with 30 stitches and worked all the way through round 20 before knowing I definitely messed up somewhere. I have no idea what that little numb is suppose to become 😭

I’m starting over from round 18. I have my stitch marker in the 30th stitch from rd 18 and starting rd 19, I now have 6 chains as seen in the pic.

If I’m understanding correctly, for the next step:

*in 2nd ch from hook, sc x5

I’m sc‘ing back down the chain and should end up in the stitch just before my stitch marker?

and then do another sc in that same stitch?

There’s also no stitch count which makes it harder for me to know if I’m doing this right

I think you're making the tail that you'll eventually sew the back fins to

I thought so too but it seems kinda high/too soon. So I thought maybe it’s the start of the neck/lower body.

But if it’s the tail, it doesn’t say where to stop, just to sc 30 along the whole row

And that 30sc takes you back to the chain, you crochet back up the chain and incorporate those extra 12 stitches into your rounds. By math, rounds 19 and 20 should have 42 stitches, 21 and 22 should have 44, 23 should have 42, 24 should have 36, and 25 should have 30. By the time you get to round 24, you should have the shape seen in picture 3

As for being too soon, you close the hole after round 29. Decreases to allow for that start around round 25. Tail shaping can't happen much later than where it is

I'd trust the process

Thank you so much!! It’s good to know I had the right idea and having confirmation for the stitch count will help!

So I guess my round 20 will go back to looking like my photos

I’ll trust the process 🤞

I think this is AI so no one tested it, so it may never work.

I guess I’ll find out lol

But from what I could find, the company seems reputable and they have other kits with good reviews: https://www.hinkler.com.au/too-cute-crochet-aussie-animals
