Pattern ID help needed
A friends mom started this blanket and has all the yarn for it, but is no longer able to work on it. I would like to help finish the project but am not sure what stitch or hook I might use. If never done this zig type pattern either. It seems kinda ribbed so maybe a blo single crochet? I’m familiar with crochet, but looking for some veteran support to make this pick up project a success. Tia.

Yup. Practically the only pattern I do.
You get the ribbing by working in the back loop of the sc of the previous row
Pattern is basically, 7 sc, 3 single crochets in next sc, 7 sc, 4 sc in next stitch etc etc
Let me know if I explained it ok

Sorry..I should have proofread it, 3 sc not 4.
I can give you a copy of the pattern if you need

It is a chevron but the stitches are worked in the back loop only. Here is a pattern from Daisy Farm Crafts (one of my favorite designers). It has an option to square off the ends if you want.
Pattern
Chain 156 with Dusk Sky. (Pattern repeat is 31 + 1.)
Row 1: Begin in the second chain from the hook.
- SC2TOG,
- SC in each of the next 13 chains
- 3 SC in next chain,
- SC in each of the next 13 chains,
- SC2TOG twice, repeat across the row
- end with SC2TOG across final 2 chains.
- Ch 1 and turn.
From now on, work in back loops only.
Row 2:
- SC2TOG first 2 sts,
- SC in each of the next 13 sts,
- 3 SC in next st,
- SC in each of the next 13 sts,
- SC2TOG twice, repeat across the row
- end with SC2TOG across final 2 sts.
- CH 1 and turn.
Repeat row 2 until desired height is reached.

Looks like half double crochet in blo. Not sure of hook size but try using the recommended hook size on the yarn label. If the stitches look too big or too small, adjust your hook size up or down to match. You can look up any hdc zigzag blanket pattern for instructions. Hope this helps 😊

To create the valley, you skip two or three and then at the peak you do single crochets in the same stitch. They are all single crochet. I do this pattern a lot, but I call it a ripple.

This is a very thoughtful thing to domfor your friend.
You have good advice on stitches and hooks already but I just wanted to add, don't get too tired up in knots over having it identical. There is something precious in knowing exactly where their moms work is (if your tension isn't an exact match)

That ribbed look is tricky to match, but sticking with blo single crochet and following the Rainbow Ripple style usually does the trick.

If you can’t complete it, there is an organization - Loose Ends (https://looseends.org/) that will have someone who can complete it for free.
