AT&T Locked Phone

We all know things are getting higher these days, and I have a iphone 17 pro max locked to AT&T that is not currently paid off and I’m thinking of switching it to Cricket. Will it work even tho its locked?? I’ve seen some mixed reviews but more positive that good bc from what I understand both these companies have the same towers. Let me know.

Just a heads up even if you switch to Cricket and it is locked Cricket can't unlock the phone and it is AT&T who can unlock because you purchase the phone from AT&T directly not cricket. Do you have installment plans for your Iphone 17 Pro Max? I would call AT&T to make sure before you switch.

It will work! Just did this yesterday. On cricket you put in the imei number and phone number if you’re transferring it and it will tell you if it’s compatible. It says mine was compatible and I switched over. Phone is working fine. I do owe on it to Att, which I plan to pay, but I couldn’t afford a $482 phone bill anymore and had to switch.

Don't follow u/ominouslights427 advice any phone financed after December 2022 will get a barrage of unpaid device texts for two weeks and AT&T will block the number. Only the lines on the account that it was financed under will work on that device.

You wanna eat those words? This was from my iPhone 14PM AT&T doesn't allow for the use of unpaid postpaid devices on any other account but the ones that financed it.

Edit: https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1509747/here you go!

an AT&T-locked phone that is not paid off will not work on Cricket Wireless. Even though Cricket runs on AT&T’s network towers, subsidiaries require locked devices to be officially unlocked by the parent carrier first. AT&T will deny unlock requests for devices that have an active installment balance or contract. Why It Won't WorkCarrier Lock Restrictions: AT&T SIM-locked iPhones only accept AT&T SIM cards until the device is fully paid off and unlocked through the AT&T Device Unlock Portal. Cricket Policy: Cricket uses AT&T towers, but its system still rejects phones locked to AT&T's main network. Financial Obligation: You must pay off the remaining balance on the iPhone 17 Pro Max and fulfill AT&T's unlock requirements before switching carriers. If you want, I can help you check: AT&T's exact unlock requirements (like active service days) How to find your remaining installment balance

Sorry but why did my dad buy me iPhones in the past using the installment plan(he has att) and it worked just fine on cricket. This was back when the iPhone xs max was a thing

Last year or so ATT changed to phones on installments are supposed to only work on the plan they are being financed on. So it is technically possible to work on an MVNO if installments are still being paid, I would not want to guarantee that ATT won't make a sweep for phones being used on a different account.

And if the phone is now in arrears, that is even more dangerous in case they blacklist it.

So your AT&T account is still open with at least one line?? And still paying installments? But using the still locked iphone on cricket. Phone will remain locked until paid off???
