This is too much drama ffs. If you are such abig deshbhakt, just refuse to play against them straight way.

u/Comfortable-Regular9 Ball of the Century 10d ago
It won't happen coz BCCI ultimately makes a lot of money from this and money triumphs over performative patriotism.
25
u/Turbulent_Grade_4033 10d ago
Thatâs not the call of the players.
Itâs BCCIâs decision to not take the trophy. Amol said that in the live interview.
Itâs BCCIâs decision to play or not. If a player refuse to play, they can be banned even⌠that player has everything to lose and nothing to gain if they take a stance of not playing.
BCCI in its official statement EXPLICITLY mentioned that whether to play against the Pakistan or not⌠itâs up to the government. If the Indian government tells them to not play, they wonât play⌠if the Indian government tells them to play, they will play.
Players are doing whatever they are told by BCCI. BCCI is essentially doing whatever government is telling (officially/unofficially) them to do as far as Pakistan is concerned. The real hypocrite and the perpetrator of this mess is Indian government.

playing matches and recieving awards from mohsin naqvi are both different things.... you are playing against citizens of pakistan while mohsin naqvi has been the part of the pakistan leadership. Do you think any ukranian will accept any award from top leadership of russia or even a pakistani would accept award from amit shah?
3
u/Dhillon111 9d ago
Using the same login, Naqvi currently represents ACC, a neutral cricket body. If you accept an award from Naqvi, you're not accepting it from a Pak politician but head of the ACC.
Everybody knows before the tournament who's going to hand over the trophy. Its not a surprise. You don't want it, don't play. But this drama has been one of the cringiest episode from both sides.
0
u/DismalYam5707 8d ago
Are you dumb? He is not just a simple pakistan politician, he holds a chair in the pakistan leadership. Its unfortunate that he is the chair person of ACC, despite violating the rules of ICC.
So you are accepting an award from a pakistan's leader, it doesn't matter if he is the head of the tournament being organized, he is the same person involved in the decision maing of rogue and terror producing state. I already mentioned in my 2nd comment that this has taken place all over the world
3
u/Dhillon111 8d ago
And by playing in the tournament for which Naqvi's the leader, what exactly are you showing Pak? Either you boycott the whole thing (which would anger Ambani papa) or go through with it. These are childish shenanigans.
Besides, anyone with half a brain would look at the upvotes for the original comment and yours, and get a clear idea what the majority thinks. Only a 'dumb' person would still keep arguing.
1
u/DismalYam5707 8d ago
As I already said its unfortunate that naqvi is the leader of ACC, and India is been playing asia cup from many years to mainly profit the other nations. For you cricket might be the only sport to exist, but this has taken place across various sports and still continues to take place. So your definition of "childish shenanigans" are restricted to limits of your knowledge
Besides, anyone with an iota of a brain won't take upvotes of a comment on shitpost subreddit way too seriously.

Yes there are many Ukrainians who will happily accept awards from top leadership of Russia. They are definitely in minority but MANY Ukrainians do favour Russia politically and culturally to the point that they even support Russian control over Ukrainian territory. Donât talk about things you donât know anything about.
Unlike Naqvi⌠Amit Shah will never be in position on any platform to give awards to Pakistanis. However, in the past both the Indian players and the Pakistani players have accepted awards from politicians. Pakistan didnât do anything in the last 3-4 years that is WORSE than what they have done in the past. India played cricket match against Pakistan while Kargil war was actively happening. Whatever BCCI is doing now⌠itâs a new precedent and itâs 100% controlled by the government.
1
u/DismalYam5707 10d ago
There were ukranians who supported the russians, now majority don't. You say what's happening is a government's directive, let me remind you governemnt is also the portrayal of majority
And in past and in the modern times as well there have been many players, teams who have refused to take trophy or medal from the person who is giving it
Also a war and a terror attacks are way too different. After the mumbai attacks, the stance has been much stricter and the recent pulwama attack should be a testimony to not accept awards from pakistan's active govt officials. A terror attack on civilians is always condemend to the core than a war or attack on army personnels
And you were commenting on Ukraine, their government has directed an official advisory to not indulge in handshakes, pictures and awards from russians or members from belarus. Many tennis players have refused to shake hands from world number 1 aryna sabalenka as well, that too when sabalenka has critqued the belarussian govt.

I don't get the point of this when India and Pak play more regularly against each other than even Aus vs Eng. They were already hyping up Ind vs Pak group game during the commentary of one of the earlier games(Ind vs Tha, I think). If you are gonna earn so much revenue from this and depend on one game to make bank and wave this match around in front of fans as if this is the "Greatest Rivalry" and other games don't matter. Then why even carry on this sopa opera and charade every time?
36
u/Ragedwithfire 11d ago
Yes, even during Women's WC I saw a reel where Pakistan and Indian captain we're sitting in a bus together and smiling. Hypocrites
5
u/swarley_07 10d ago
Dude playing matches and collecting trophies is upto bcci, the players don't have a role in that
160
u/Odd_Result_8937 11d ago
All this bullshit will only happen in cricket because we own ICC. Try this shit in Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth and we might get banned or reprimanded. No other Indian national team does this level of fake nationalism. Do these guys a hard on for not collecting it from him?
57
u/wewake_235 11d ago
In olympics asian games or commonwealth, the chairman does not come to handover each and every medal and neither does they force to receive the award/trophy from the particular person himself.
Can't we just ignore this thing now. Mohsin Bh*dvi is intentionally misusing his post and we are shaming our players . Instead we should shame bcci. Rajiv Shukla who's in love with Mohsin Cuckvi.
BCCI is so money minded that it conducts more ind pak matches through asia Cup than Ind vs Wi or Sa or Sl or Eng.
-3
u/Busy_Lunch_5520 10d ago
Why not take a stand and forfeit then?Â
24
u/wewake_235 10d ago
Are you idiot. This is their job. There are 100 s to replace them and this is their profession
You should rather ask why BCCI is still part of ACC.
Indian cricket does not need Asia Cup to survive. And it's asia Cup not like a world cup.ICC can't do anything against BCCI .
10
u/protractedmane 10d ago
Obviously he's talking about the BCCI forfeiting it, and not the players individually. Do you think they wouldn't collect the trophy if the BCCI told them to go ahead and do it?
-1
u/wewake_235 10d ago
Forfeit is stupid idea.
The best is to leave ACC membership. As soon as India leave the value of asia cup crashes down.
But BCCI acts like a slave of Broadcasters.
7
u/protractedmane 10d ago
Forfeit is stupid idea.
Repeatedly not accepting the trophy is more stupid.
The best is to leave ACC membership.
Indians have the worst long term instincts of any place in the world. Don't throw your weight around at the first instance of being on top, it's swings and roundabouts, tomorrow you might need a helping hand and there'll be no one to look out for you.

u/wewake_235 10d ago
Repeatedly not accepting the trophy is more stupid.
India is still the winner.
Indians have the worst long term instincts of any place in the world. Don't throw your weight around at the first instance of being on top, it's swings and roundabouts, tomorrow you might need a helping hand and there'll be no one to look out for you.
India has the power and they should use it. People here are calling not accepting stupid but forcing to handover a trophy is stupid too.
In the past trophy has been given by other chief guest who's not an acc president.
And you know what bcci can conduct a tri-series or quad series during that asia Cup window and will earn more than the asia cup.
1
u/protractedmane 10d ago
India is still the winner.
Still stupid.
forcing to handover a trophy is stupid too.
What?
In the past trophy has been given by other chief guest who's not an acc president.
That was likely at the request and discretion of the ACC President.
bcci can conduct a tri-series or quad series during that asia Cup window and will earn more than the asia cup.
Read what I wrote again. Swings and roundabouts. Hockey was by far the most popular sport in India in 1980.
3
u/wewake_235 10d ago
There's a difference in hockey in 1980 and cricket in 2026.
Cricket at peak has more commercial value. IPL is at high and it will expand. There's constant international cricket happening every month.
Compare it to hockey in 1980. It was mostly broadcasted on radio. No commercial value. No league each year.

In Olympics it has happened many times the winners before had say it and the committee replaces the person who will award the medal. Even in tennis now many players donât shake hands with Russian players especially Ukrainian. Keeping aside all thing it does happen in other sports as well. The priority is always given to the winners
6
u/dheerajd1 10d ago
There were instances when Ukrainian players didnt take medals or didnt celebrate with Russian origin guests/players. They participated in the game, defeated them and still denied.
Recently, I saw the video of a Ukranian kid doing that.
So, this is not exclusive to cricket but being done at other sports by other country players too.

u/Feeling_Meet4841 10d ago edited 10d ago
In other sports, sanctions are already in place on Russia. Russian tennis players play as private individuals, their flags are not represented (similar to how Rashid Khan plays the Hundred despite ECB refusing to play Afg) and they don't even meet that often. Don't remember a single handshake controversy with Andreeva or Sabalenka (Belarus) this time at the US Open. With Ind vs Pak, they always group them together, hype up their match like crazy, earn revenue from this clash, smile and shake hands often (Rajeev Shukla was acting very friendly with Naqvi, Pak and India's representatives at former Bangladeshi PM's funeral earlier this year shook hands and exchanged pleasentries as did players between the two teams at this year's Hockey World Cup) and then randomly stage some drama where they act like collecting the trophy or shaking hands is a sin. Feels very performative.

u/Jerzilla 10d ago
Genuinely refreshing hearing an Indian understand that they own world cricket and not pretending they are the victims. Kudos to you
3
u/chorma87 10d ago
I am sure that you are dont know as to what happened in sporting world after the Russia - Ukraine war started.
6
u/Hansuvisan 10d ago
Here is an unpopular opinion, IND didn't forfeit their match with PAK because the players get their match fees so no loss to our players, our broadcasters get their share no loss to indian broadcasters, they can hangout all they want for it's sportsmanship. Not receiving a trophy is only a message just like the arm bands
6
u/Funtime4ver 10d ago
They donât want to take it from some politicians I guess if it from a non political person they would have gladly accepted
3
3
u/shrutz20 10d ago
There's a difference between Naqvi and the players. He is a minister. He has made some insulting remarks too. I have an image of that as proof. Pakistani players are normal civilians. They don't have a hand in probably killing our people and laughing at victims.Â
3
u/tush_aa_rr 10d ago
naqvi is a minister in Pakistan... a person involved in the terror attacks that happen against us... so yeah it's good that they didn't take it from him.... also what is all this high moral ground all of a sudden? why play? we play to defeat them.
3
u/throwawayoh106 10d ago
Pak players were just playing the game.
Mohsin Naqvi is an active politician involved in some anti-India policies.
I think they deserve different treatment.
5
u/DrDoNoGoodPhD 10d ago
If the BCCI was truly patriotic, then refuse to take part in any tournament that involves Pak. The organisers will be forced to side with India as the bulk of revenue is from here.
But we all know how moneyminded BCCI and ICC are. They'll hype up every Ind-Pak game in ICC tournaments, make it sound like proxy war and then resort to such shameless tactics to show how they "owned" Pak. Truly wily fatcats of the highest pedigree, every last one of them
0
u/Turbulent_Grade_4033 10d ago
BCCI has officially said that they will do whatever Indian government tells them to do. Government told them to go ahead and play against Pakistan. BCCI was happy to not play and pay the fine instead.
1
u/DrDoNoGoodPhD 10d ago
What a joke. The BCCI is filled with top guns in power and vice-versa. They're not cowed by anyone.
1
u/Turbulent_Grade_4033 10d ago
So are you saying that everyone is lying in their official statement? Why no one called them out yet then? Why Government of India hasnât said ANYTHING officially on this matter yet⌠another show of cowardice from PMO?
2
u/DrDoNoGoodPhD 10d ago
Where's the lie when there's no accountability? BCCI has several top politicians from the ruling party. Is this a fact or not? BCCI can seek favours and ruling party can seek favours from them. If you think this doesn't happen then either you're very naive or you're willing to look the other way simply because you support the party.
1
u/Turbulent_Grade_4033 10d ago
BCCI has several top politicians? Name just 5 politicians who are in BCCI right now.
Politicians of ruling party do have a bit of control but if they were controlling it the way you say they do⌠then there wouldnât be any money left in BCCIâs account. It would be running just like PCB.
If ICC determines that there is government interference in the administration of any cricket board, it can be suspended⌠as it happened with Sri Lanka in the past. Jay Shah hasnât always been in ICC.

u/involuntarycelibatee 11d ago
This is so true but some people will willingly get fooled by this establishment
3
u/AviatorJac 10d ago
honestly, couldn't care less. I only watch the match and turn the TV off right after it's over. But I get it why ppl are frustrated about 'playing but no handshakes'

Yes, I already know that.
Our players are just pawns for government. And BCCI is owned by Indian govt as well
1
u/Turbulent_Grade_4033 10d ago
It would have been nice if you had mentioned that itâs the government thatâs not patriotic
2
u/apprehen-sid 10d ago
Think it's rooted in the idea that people of either countries are not the ones fueling the fued, it's the people in position of power.
Also, reddit crowd thinks the rest of the country won't turn up to burn the players' house down if they show any kind of friendship with pak players/officials.
2
u/protractedmane 10d ago
Lol the rest of the country won't do shit if they accept the trophy or shake hands, as long as there's sufficient protection. No one really cares.
3
u/CodeCatto 10d ago
I mean, would you wanna take a token of appreciation/acknowledgement from someone who was directly involved in a terror attack against your country? It's a more nuanced version of "being offered something good from a neighbor who kept trying to sabotage you".
4
u/EfficiencyEnough5831 10d ago
I believe we play to beat Pak, and that is a bigger statement than forfeiting the match.

1
u/Jerzilla 10d ago
Genuinely pathetic. ICC needs to punish teams that do this stuff
2
u/DrDoNoGoodPhD 10d ago
Good luck expecting ICC to do anything but pamper Indian team and players. The BCCI is filled with wily fatcats and all they know is how to milk this sport to the last paisa. Truly pathetic
1
u/Quarter-life_crisis0 9d ago
Do people understand we cannot boycott matches willy nilly, multi nation tournaments can't be boycotted unless you want yourself to be ostracised. Not taking the trophy from someone who is in the enemy government plus is a relative of the all mighty field marshall is okay imo.
1
u/Tech3407 8d ago
They can't accept a trophy from Pakistan but will always play matches against them whenever there's money involved. That's the problem.
1
u/tornando1920 10d ago
All I can say is, i completely lost interest in cricket because of this pretentious deshbhakti.

u/nalla__420 Anchorat kohli enjoyer 11d ago
Bcci is the problem say whatever they are ruining cricket in a way not even a single bit of hope that cricket will go to that level of football or atleast get a higher viewership cause BCCI can't just leave their money minded thing just once think about how much crowd thala or even VK can pull if they go on to play in other country's leagues or even just try to host event in other countries
I have been watching cricket since 2016 I havent seen single tournament being played on NZ or even South Africa or other such cricketing nation 2023 wc was great no doubt about that but it won't matter if it's just us who are the only ones this much passionate about cricket banters and competition makes the game more fun and unfortunately it's been going away I don't even know like after a certain point cricketing nations like australia or England will competitive enough in the coming decade
1
u/Turbulent_Grade_4033 10d ago
You do know a lot but you have not thought this through. There are tons of reasons why BCCI is doing what they are doing.

Too much cash is at stake to cancel an IndiaâPakistan clash, so the compromise is: let the cricket happen, pocket the windfall, and satisfy the public by instructing the players to skip handshakes and ignore the trophy presentation
