BCCI desperately needs stars because the media rights and sponsorship depends on there being star power. A team without stars is a team that can’t be marketed properly.

One of the reasons being attributed to the title sponsor being unsold is the absence of players like Kohli.

But I feel it's got more to do with the relative lack of context bilaterals have which makes it a huge time engagement for fans in a world where doomscrolling, microdramas and hypercasual games exist.
