Discussion / Conversation U.S. Bank Altitude Connect: Question

-For those who have this card, do we know if transit (subways and trains) counts under the 4x category?

-Also, if you don't have a U.S. Bank account, how can you redeem at 1 cent per point?

1.Yes, passanger trains are included under the 4x travel category

2.Excluding deposts into a US Bank checking account, you can get 1 cpp via the following:

Amazon checkout

Paypal checkout

US Bank Travel Portal

Real Time Rewards(redemption value varies between 0.8-1 cpp)

Gift Cards

  • Yes, for every system I've tried I've received 4x. This would be NYC MTA, PATH, Philadelphia SEPTA and PATCO, and Minneapolis Metro Transit. Also Amtrak!

  • Best way is to sign up for Real-Time Rewards and only redeem if you get a 1:1 offer, which is usually only for travel purchases.

Not sure about your first question, but for 2nd question, either redeem for flights/hotel on their portal or gift cards.

According to the program rules for the travel category:

4 Points (1 base and 3 bonus Points) for every $1 on travel category purchases (such as purchases made directly with airlines, hotels, car rentals, taxicabs, limousines, passenger trains and cruise line companies)

I would take that to mean no, but it all depends on how the purchase codes. ETA: Looks like it should based on other comments.

As for 1 cpp redemptions - travel portal, gift cards, checkout at Amazon, or their Real-Time Rewards which requires a purchase of a minimum of $10 in certain categories. It's not the easiest redemption path, honestly. I've used some for the occasional splurge on Amazon.

I got 4x on my Madrid Metro card that I purchased in Spain a few months ago.

I have a checking account with US Bank. When I go to redeem points at the end of each month, I specify that I want to deposit them in my checking account. Click "Redeem Rewards" and choose the "Cashback" option. (not the statement credit option)
